Hell, they were your observations. A lot of people felt queasy about CC. Big whoop. And why not, why should we expect, even back then, some kind of pure movement to mystically arise in the fields outside of Mordor? In fact, that is precisely what was going thru my mind on the drive up there. So I'm with you there, and I'm with you on the women thing too. But, my observations took the queasy away, which is not to say that it didn't come back at Camp 3 or that I didn't have occasional disagreements with the whole shebang.

RT: Up to 19 People Killed - Boats Diverted to Haifa to Avoid Media

http://rt.com/Top_News/2010-05-31/gaza- ... ttack.html
Up to 19 people have been killed and more than 30 injured after Israeli boats allegedly attacked a flotilla carrying humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, international media report.

Russian news agency Itar-Tass reports that the death toll has risen to 19, referring to Sky News channel.

According to Israeli media, Israeli soldiers are also among those injured.

Early Monday morning the Israeli navy intercepted the fleet of ships about hundred kilometers off the coast of Gaza. They sent out warning signals for the ships to turn round. A detention center has been established in the southern Israeli city of Ashdod to hold those activists who refuse to turn back. Israeli forces insist that they want to check the cargo aboard.

According to latest reports, from 1 to 3 vessels of the international flotilla are being towed to the Israeli port of Haifa, not Ashdod as was suggested earlier, so as to avoid encountering international journalists who are waiting at Ashdod.

The press service of the Israel Defense Forces confirmed the boarding on Monday morning and said ten people were killed in the process, none of whom were Israeli military servicemen.

From the Free Gaza Movement Twitter feed:

Israeli radio says wounded have been taken to hospital, but it is forbidden to tell anyone which hospital

Israeli radio says that the boats are going to be hauled into Haifa. This was not a confrontation. This was a massacre

And that the boats are being hauled into Haifa and not Ashdod so that journalists are not there

Israeli soldiers shooting at people, all over the Turkish boat. Watch IHH streaming video

Back to topic...

I consider this will have been carefully planned and that this is part of an enterprise to get Hezbollah engaged as an excuse for going into Iran. Expect some Israeli-blackmailed goy in Gaza to launch a couple of homemade rockets into some Israeli fields, followed by MSM saturation of stock footage of hysterical families fleeing and some unknown group like "Islamists against all Jews" or "Taliban against evil settlers" 'claiming responsibility' for the outrage. Netan ya-hoo then speaks to the 'nation' about how they cannot let this attack go unpunished and gives an ultimatum that Hamas deliver the bodies of all first-born infants in 24 hours or else they invade Gaza to make Israel 'safe from the existential threats" and 'secure from postmodernity' and 'achieve peace through post-structuralism'... and then an elastic band and piece of folded-up paper gets discovered during the 'search' of the ships, to which a 'mighty response of the Sword of Justice' will be required etc etc

Hezbollah won't do anything. And if there's a reaction in Gaza I won't suspect some kind of false-flag.

Why does Israel do this? What do they gain?

Official Text of the North Atlantic Treaty

Article 5

The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognised by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.

Any such armed attack and all measures taken as a result thereof shall immediately be reported to the Security Council. Such measures shall be terminated when the Security Council has taken the measures necessary to restore and maintain international peace and security .

A military attack in international waters on an unarmed flotilla on a well publicized, humanitarian mission.

By US military standards, Turkey has every right to consider this attack an act of war [I am not suggesting it should, just noting the asymmetry]. Turkey is a NATO country. I truly hope the Turks insist on a criminally-binding international inquiry which the Israeiis are compelled to participate in by the 28 NATO countries.

From the NATO website:

"We want to be sure we can walk around in a safe and secure environment. Security in all areas of everyday life is key to our well-being, but it cannot be taken for granted."

". . . If diplomatic efforts fail, (NATO) has the military capacity needed to undertake crisis management operations. These are carried out under Article 5 of the Washington Treaty and/or under a UN mandate, alone or in cooperation with other countries and international organizations."

Deeds, not words.

They don't gain. They've been throwing away opportunities to consolidate their land grabs with peace and good international relations for decades. They had a solid ally in Turkey and stomped all over that for many years to get to this point. Only in the delusions of the craziest among them do they gain, those who have consolidated their grip on the society with a majority following. Good people who were actually born there and couldn't stand it any more have been leaving for many years, fanatics who follow orders from god have been streaming in and running right up to the settlement front line to stir up shit. It's true that Israel fears the "demographic bomb" and might be edging toward mass deportations and massacres of the Palestinians regardless, but the ultra-ultras like Lieberman have forced the polity into a series of questions where the hardline option is always chosen, until we get to the point when commandos drop down on civilian ships in international waters and massacre third-nation citizens. Because they can. They want to push it. They think they can break the world itself by force. They don't care, condemnations from every country in the world are the expected confirmation that they were right and in fact compelled to act like they did.

Imagine that the J-Post has a headline describing the reaction the heavily armored attackers received from the unarmed civilians as they landed on the boat as an attempted lynching! (I find it interesting how international invaders always manage to turn castle doctrine on its head.)

Only one nation can affect Israel, and that's its sponsor. The current Turkish government, which has always had a precarious relationship with the military, can't afford to be putting down riots that will largely involve its own voters. I expect they will take this before NATO with a minimum acceptable demand of categorical condemnation and suspension of aid to Israel, and they will threaten to leave NATO. That's going to force some very big choices in Washington and Europe.
