With escalating racial violence, the first 'black' president hasn't returned immediately to The Homeland because?

Obama says America is horrified over Dallas attack

"Immediately after landing in Warsaw, and before the shootings, Obama had expressed solidarity with protesters. He has acknowledged becoming out of the touch with the public mood during past foreign travels and seemed determined to let that happen this week. He aired his frustration with what he said were racial disparities in the criminal justice system.
But he also seemed attuned to the potential for backlash directed at police. He argued that there was no contradiction between supporting law enforcement and working to see that biases in the justice system are rooted out."

I see on that purported FB page that they list the Black Panthers site, which is just a site for a documentary on the real Panthers:
http://theblackpanthers.com/home/

Besides the "wrong" suspect that is all over the news, I cannot find anything about the other suspects...I see blurbs but nothing hard...

ETA: The race of the dead cops??

BBC Breaking News, 3 mins ago:
Gunman killed in stand-off with Dallas police said he was 'working alone', was upset about police shootings of black people and wanted to kill white officers, police chief says

If the gunman was killed, when did he say all this? (During a 'standoff' with cops, he says "I'm working alone"?)

They were reportedly 'negoiating' with him for a while. No, you aren't going to hear the tape.

Did he commit suicide or did they blow him up with the bomb robot? Both have been reported.

Edit- they said they were negotiating. No idea if he was on a phone. Interesting that I somehow typed that as though I knew though.

Police will not reveal information about suspects
Posted at 14:50

Dallas mayor Mike Rawlings tells the news conference that police will not go into detail about the four suspects while a criminal investigation is under way.

Three of the suspects are in custody and one has died. Both the mayor and police chief David Brown have confined their remarks to talking about how events unfolded, and to paying tribute to Dallas law enforcement officers.

Suspect involved in stand-off was killed by police bomb
Posted at 14:49

Police chief David Brown says the suspect involved in a stand-off in the parking garage did not take his own life, contrary to earlier reports in the media.

He was killed by an explosive device sent in by police attached to a robot, Mr Brown said.

Slightly more detail:
Suspect 'wanted to kill white people, especially officers'
Posted at 14:45

The suspect involved in a stand-off with police told officers he was "upset at white people" and "stated he wanted to kill white people, especially white officers", police chief David Brown has just told a news conference.

Mr Brown said: "[The suspect] said he was upset about the black lives matter issue, and was upset about recent police shootings."

He added: "The suspect said he was not affiliated with any groups, he stated that he did this alone."
I am still wondering when he "told officers" all this. Did he survive that explosion and only die later?

Meanwhile, the BBC's frontpage world news headline is now "Dallas gunman 'wanted to kill whites'". Helter Skelter.

I just want to note that the aesthetics of that Facebook page are pretty far off. I think the chances of it being legit are pretty miniscule.

In initial reports, I heard that upwards of seven protesters had also been shot. Is there any truth to that? By the sniper(s), or cops returning fire erratically? I'm seeing little mention now of any protester casualties. KY3 says "2 civilians shot": http://www.ky3.com/content/news/Police- ... 52771.html

I'm so glad that this didn't happen in Philly, the gathering was huge last night and shut down the highway the night before. There's another vigil planned for tonight.

When I was listening to the Dallas police spokesman on the radio this morning, he said something about having him cornered in a "wing" of an El Centro College building, but I suppose that may have actually been the parking garage. The way "wing" was worded and the way they described negotiations failing, and gunfire exchanged, I was basically picturing two perpendicular short hallways, cops in one, the sniper in the other.

Amateur video of gunman firing a rifle at street level. He's dressed in white pants, greenish combat jacket, balaclava (or mask?)

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-36743774

His movements seem remarkably relaxed there, especially at the beginning. Just strolling around, barely making any effort to hide. And the parked SUV with lights flashing right beside him.
