Bit off topic, but I'm posting this here because I think it relates to how highly respected and powerful figures in Washington can tolerate, condone and, even (literally) pardon a pedophile. This week, Washington's NPR station is airing talk show host Diane Rehm's 'favorite' interviews from her 40 year career span (she retired this week). I find it kinda shocking that today's favorite choice was an interview with convicted pedophile Peter Yarrow, from Peter, Paul & Mary, about the group's music career. (fwiw, Rehm's been very vocal about the "dangers in fake news" and has also defended Comet Ping Pong on air.)
With upcoming presidential pardons, one from 36 years ago.
Folk Singer Peter Yarrow Pardoned by Carter
By Laura A. Kiernan February 7, 1981
"The day before he left office, former president Carter granted a pardon to folk singer Peter Yarrow, who pleaded guilty more than 10 years ago in U.S. District Court here to a morals charge involving a 14-year-old girl.
Yarrow, a resident of New York and once a member of the trio known as Peter, Paul and Mary, filed his petition for a pardon Dec. 10, according to David C. Stephenson, the acting pardon attorney at the Department of Justice.
In his petition, Yarrow cited his concern that he would soon have to tell his young children about what he has described at the time as "the most terrible mistake I have ever made."
Yarrow's petition also said, "It is my hope they will see a balanced picture, one that understands that their daddy did something very wrong but also one that asserts that their daddy has also done much for society to eliminate want and inequality where he saw it."
A presidential pardon, Yarrow wrote, would help his children understand that "society has forgiven their father" and might help lessen the "sense of shame that they will inevitably feel."
Stephenson said that Yarrow's pardon application was supported by letters from former New York City mayor John V. Lindsay, former Democratic senator George McGovern of South Dakota, Sam W. Brown and Mary King, the director and deputy director of the volunteer agency ACTION, and Jenny Lowenstein, the widow of former congressman and civil rights activist Allard K. Lowenstein."

Peter Yarrow: the guest of dis-honor
".........His résumé also includes a sex crime.
A 14-year-old girl and her 17-year-old sister went to Yarrow’s hotel room in Washington, DC, in 1970 seeking an autograph, it was reported at the time. Yarrow, then about 32, answered the door naked. He made sexual advances that stopped short of intercourse, a tale recently repeated on the FrontPageMag.com Web site.
Yarrow served three months of a one- to three-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to taking “indecent liberties’’ with the girl. In 1981, the singer was pardoned by then-President Jimmy Carter on his last day in office.
Why did a president pardon a pedophile? Was it because Yarrow was married at the time to the niece of the late Democratic Sen. Eugene McCarthy?
Yarrow has repeatedly made excuses for his behavior.
“You feel terrible about it, make your amends,’’ he told the Baltimore Jewish Times in 2006. “In that time, it was common practice, unfortunately — the whole groupie thing.’’
His “groupie’’ was a child!"

'groupie'; blame the victim. As I recall, the the older sister was the head of PP&M's area Fan Club.
(Of possible interest too, from Wikipedia, Yarrow's father,
"............Bernard Yarrow was recruited into the OSS, where he served with distinction.
After the war he joined Sullivan and Cromwell, the Dulles brothers' law firm. He was a founding board member of the National Committee for a Free Europe, an anti-Communist organization. In 1952 he became a senior vice-president of the CIA-funded Radio Free Europe, an organization he helped to found"
