Police in riot gear responded when hundreds of Penn State students flooded the streets in support of the university’s ousted gridiron coach Joe Paterno.
Crowds tipped over a television news van and kicked out its windows and at least one photographer was hit by a rock as a campus known as Happy Valley descended into chaos.
Police used pepper spray to control the crowd, but students made their feelings known with chants of “We Want Joe! We Want Joe!”
this violent breed of superstudent has become addicted to rioting, bin laden's death sparked a riot as well. what can be done?

Jerry Sandusky, former Penn State football staffer, subject of grand jury investigation

...Sandusky, 67, retired from Penn State shortly after the Alamo Bowl in December 1999. In his 2000 autobiography, “Touched: The Jerry Sandusky Story,” he says he decided to leave after he “came to the realization I was not destined to become the head football coach at Penn State.”
He spent the next 11 years focused on running The Second Mile, a nonprofit he founded in 1977 that reaches 10,000 Pennsylvania youths a year through summer and year-round camp programs. The charity was honored by President George H.W. Bush in 1990 as a “Point of Light.”...

I may already know what you mean but can you say a bit more about this?
there's a huge concentration of small-to-large Contracting companies, and so much of the research done at PSU is tied to defense contracts as well, it keeps the whole area afloat. A lot of "professors" do little but work on high-tech for the military. Research reactor there too. Of course there is some education going on as well, but it's a safety-school for the wealthy NE families. The money on display there these days is really kinda shocking. People swoop in and BUY their kids houses, every other student has a brand new car, etc. And years ago now, they moved all their art majors to branch campuses.
TWO on-campus mass-shooters (neither of which got off very many rounds), but also off-campus unsolved murders that get hushed-up.

A news van? Good grief.

I don't think the mainstream can really grok or really even in some cases believe this kind of organized pedophilia. Just look at the defensive reactions the mothers are forced to take. I've had more fights with social worker friends of mine than I care to remember in which they flat out tell me that coverups exactly like this one just don't happen, let alone situations in which complicity plays a role.
Fuck everything about that Bush I quote and Sandusky serving as a pimp.
I'm not sure if other parts of the world host similar experiences, but as a lifelong Pennsylvanian, I can attest to the palpable cult-like status of Penn State and "Happy Valley." The guy sitting in my studio with me right now is a grad, but he is seriously one of the only ones I know who ever really mentally left State College. All the rest still trek out there for football games in the fall and parties year round, and post about it on facebook nonstop. If you've ever had to be in a room with a group of them where you're the only non-Nittany, it's unbearable. Once, I told a group who were blathering on and on about Penn State and said, "you know, last weekend I was hanging out with a bunch of people who went to Bard together. But they didn't seem like they were members of a cult. I should go back and ask them why Bard wasn't cool enough to garner their obsession." After arguing with them for awhile, I said, "it's just secondary education," which they completely and emphatically denied.
Oh well, I have hobbies too.

Audio is available here, from the Dennis & Callahan Show. The two "bombshell" rumors: that Sandusky pimped out young boys to rich donors, and that his retirement in '99 was in exchange for a cover-up.

Luther, I see that Bard has a quidditch team. Perhaps it's just starting its days as an athletic superpower.
His car was found abandoned in a Lewisburg, Pa., parking lot and his laptop's harddrive was recovered from the nearby Susquehannna River, but there was no other trace of Gricar. No clues could be gleaned from the severely damaged harddrive and despite a six year investigation that involved the FBI and international help, police have as little an idea today about what happened to the former DA as they did then.

This is a very interesting response, these riots, and I wonder if the anger and violence is linked to some kind of shame reaction, where the embarrassment of living in a dysfunctional and clearly perverse community (family) creates an overwhelming sense of ostracization, and initiates a desperate panic response. For these young people, the impeachment and banishment of a father figure (Paterno) will be experienced as a direct attack on the supporting familial structure in which they live. The target of their (infantile) rage will be any obvious member of the persecuting press-gangs that have suddenly appeared to take "the father" by force.
Obviously, this is the idiot response of a panicked mass, but the conditions of its incitement are well beyond the pale of ordinary mischief, and are collectively experienced as a direct attack on a community, family, however crazy and perverted that family has turned out to be (in secret).

Yes, and wiped from the pages of history.
This crime is bringing new publicity to the Franklin case, as well as to the disappearance of Ray Gricar:
Why didn’t Centre County District Attorney Ray Gricar prosecute Jerry Sandusky the first time he was accused in 1998? We may never know, as Gricar disappeared in 2005.
By Teresa Masterson
It is strange that Centre County District Attorney Ray Gricar never prosecuted Jerry Sandusky on child-rape charges 13 years ago, some speculate, because Gricar was known for being fiercely independent and hard on crime.
But it is even stranger that we cannot ask Gricar why Sandusky was not put behind bars, because the tough-as-nails district attorney disappeared in 2005. And though he was declared dead July of this year, his body has never been found.
"People ask why Ray did not prosecute, and I have no problem saying, because he clearly felt he didn't have a case for a 'successful' prosecution," Tony Gricar, Ray Gricar’s nephew , told The Patriot-News.
"... One thing I can say is that Ray was beholden to no one, was not a politician."
This district attorney had “a bitter taste in his mouth for the [Penn State] program, and its coach,” according to his nephew, and never prosecuted Sandusky. He disappeared on April 15, 2005 after telling his girlfriend that he was going on a drive.
Ray Gricar’s car was found the next day in a Lewisburg parking lot and his laptop, sans hard drive, was found in the Susquehanna River, according to the Patriot-News.
Ray Gricar’s friend, Montour County District Attorney Robert Buehner Jr., told the New York Times that if the ardent district attorney had committed suicide, he would have wanted his body found. But in the case of possible foul play, no suspects have emerged from investigations.
When it comes to the Sandusky case, friends and former co-workers are all of the opinion that Ray Gricar would never back down from a righteous prosecution.
“No one got a bye with Ray,” Anthony De Boef, who was an assistant district attorney under Gricar for five years told the NY Times. “He didn’t care who you were; he had a job to do.”
And, despite the fact that Ray Gricar had the mother of one of the alleged victims confront Sandusky while police listened, the 1998 report on Sandusky was labeled “unfounded” by the District Attorney’s Office, reports the Patriot-News.
