Will the Real Whitley Strieber Please Stand Up?
I think the real Whitley Strieber did stand up.
And, as far as I am concerned, he can sit back down.

Wow J. That's quite provocative, pedo jimmy saville speaking a mckenna quote from in front of crowley's lam. not sure how I feel about that.

Another LUCID VIEW fan checking in here. Thanks for the article, and please post more like it! I greatly enjoyed both it and your book.
Is a sequel on the way?

Hi elfismiles - yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about it either.
It should probably have come with a trigger warning.
I'm working on a piece that will make the connection in a less cavalier and much more nuanced way. When I did the image you could say I was seized by a diabolic impulse.
As someone who swallowed Strieber's ectoplasmic effluences whole, and who grew up watching Jimmy Saville on TV (my sister even had his autograph), and who possibly experienced some sort of interference in childhood from something other than aliens, this new bout of research has proved pretty rocky going. . .
I hope the image hasn't unduly upset anyone.
Jerky: There's already a sequel to Lucid View, Homo Serpiens. I can't recommended it with a clear conscience, however, since it draws freely (and even builds on) on Strieber's work and other sources which I am currently checking for maggots.

Hi guruilla (and everyone),
I have been working my way through all of your blog posts. Enjoying them greatly. I have also followed Strieber's work for a long time. [I was delighted to see that you gave a signal boost to the old Dream's End articles on Strieber. Those pieces were extremely important to the field in general, and the evolution of thinking on UFOs/mind control/trauma etc. I always thought they were tragically overlooked.]
I have always leaned towards the side of "believing" Strieber's stuff (even though I am pretty hard-line agnostic as a rule) even though bits and pieces of what he says clearly don't stand up, or sound like dreams, or sometimes he'll endorse something that seems flimsy, and it makes me question his discernment, etc. But at the core it feels like there is something
there, and I find it fascinating. From reading your blogs it sounds like your relationship with his work has been similarly complicated? But "ectoplasmic effluences" sounds dismissive in a way that you haven't been before. Is it just a one-off comment or have you come to some settled conclusion?

Hi Crow
(that was the name of my first website, back in the 1990s)
It wasn't meant to be dismissive - on the contrary. Ectoplasm is all-too real to me.
But I am becoming more disillusioned with Strieber and with the whole "visitors" narrative. There is still something there as you put it (ie something with the whiff of the numinous), but there is so much more there that just really stinks.
I don't think there will ever be a settled conclusion - a mystery is like an onion, you only know you've got to the last skin when you come up empty-handed.
I think when we start to see what's really at the core of this, it will blow our minds forever - way more than an ET invasion (or a plague of pedos) could.
Whitley's dissembling without even knowing it, probably, trying to hold the pieces of this worn-out 50s sci-fi narrative together as if the fate of the world depended on it (maybe it does, but only his world).

Hey folks, wanted to drop a note encouraging those of you interested to check out Jasun's latest effort at coming to terms with his own strange experiences and their possible relevance to his ongoing examination of Whitley Strieber and the UFO contact experience.
