The lead singer of The Residents has been talking about HIS 'close encounters' on his video blog, "Randyland". Of course, being the lead singer of The Residents, it's hard to tell if it's true or not. http://vimeo.com/85002189
You can watch all the episodes for more, this is just the latest one. I was fortunate to be able to afford a chance to donate money to Don Hardy's upcoming documentary of them, so the next episode should include ME talking to Randy! I'll put it up here, when it up-loaded.

True, I noticed that these things got brought up almost straight away. I assumed that is a RI thing though, taking the light and dark together. I'm a musician myself and have always been attracted more to the bittersweet elements rather than stuff that is significantly one way or the other, I think it's something about balance that I find more satisfying.

As I, struggle to keep my balance and composure I'm 'posed ta, propose a toast to players on every coast-a The lyrical roller coaster, mind-bender 'Stead of watching these sucker MC's I'm seeing just how they lying to the general population Don't be patient, get up and stand up for your life Don't you agree or understand we lost some rights at 1-1-9? Come dumb, come young, come blind unwind confined To the situation, we facing, cause in time, tick tick boom
When will we all, awake up out this dream Come here and smell the Folgers, the soldiers are human beings Man acting as if he was the supreme being Clocking the souls of men out like he was G-O-D and W-A-Rrah, there'll be no tomorrow but sorrow And horror will follow the hollow hearts battle for dollars Politicians, modern day magicians Physicians of death, more health care for poor health Who making us ill, they making us kill That's making me spill my guts (chill Big, lay in the cut) For what? See Al-Amin got life and Fred got dead, Hampton To dampen the dream of all the Panthers They got they answer for ransom As we read together, as we dream together Count your blessings whenever you feel that things won't be no better But it got to, you gave me this microphone so I must rock you Your brainwaves, airwaves, energized and SHOCKED you Y'all got me, well I got y'all, long as I know y'all listenin I'ma always bring food for thought to the table in the kitchen Now eat nigga!

No-one can hide it anymore we know it's not imagining Even the skeptics are unsure when they stop to think People are not worth their life now they are obsolete We're dying to be invaded and put the blame on something concrete
Waiting for the UFOs Waiting for the UFOs We are waiting for the UFOs We know that they're there
We're just a joke they sometimes crack, they'll get away with anything The government is holding back, they won't say a word Now is that a light in sky or just a spark in my heart? Can I accept this as evidence or will that tear the whole act apart?
This new obsession is turning us alien too too Much more resounding my heart just stopped pounding for you
Waiting for the UFOs Waiting for the UFOs We are waiting for the UFOs Waiting Waiting

There's a starman waiting in the sky Hed like to come and meet us But he thinks he'd blow our minds There's a starman waiting in the sky Hes told us not to blow it Cause he knows it's all worthwhile He told me: Let the children lose it Let the children use it Let all the children boogie

Don’t think you can’t see me
Don’t argue amongst yourselves Because of the loss of me I’m sitting amongst yourselves Don’t think you can’t see me
Don’t argue amongst yourselves Because of the loss of me I haven’t gone anywhere But out of my body
Reach out and you’ll touch me Make effort to speak to me Call out and you’ll hear me Be happy for me

Notes: This is one of Simon's top Afro Celt songs. He describes it as "Proof of the healing powers of music and Sinead's amazing shamanic qualities. A gift." In this song, founding Afro Celt member Jo Bruce (Jonas Asher Bruce, 9 February 1968 - 8 October 1997), who passed away from a massive asthma attack, is speaking to the band. With the help of Sinead O'Connor, it was the last song written for Volume 2, provided the inspiration for the title of the CD "Release" and a healing force for the band after the tragic loss of Jo Bruce. Iarla and James speak about the recording of this song in their June 2, 1999 interview with Nic Harcourt on KCRW's program "Morning Becomes Eclectic".

A Dream
Once a dream did weave a shade O'er my angel-guarded bed, That an emmet lost its way Where on grass methought I lay.
Troubled, wildered, and forlorn, Dark, benighted, travel-worn, Over many a tangle spray, All heart-broke, I heard her say:
'Oh my children! do they cry, Do they hear their father sigh? Now they look abroad to see, Now return and weep for me.'
Pitying, I dropped a tear: But I saw a glow-worm near, Who replied, 'What wailing wight Calls the watchman of the night?
'I am set to light the ground, While the beetle goes his round: Follow now the beetle's hum; Little wanderer, hie thee home!' William Blake

Rise Above It
Cracking walls inside my head With a bottle full of rain I promised to the coaster I wouldn’t tear it up again
Flick a peanut, break a glass I wish I didn’t sleep at Mass And everything is closing up Yet again I come in last
I saw it in a dream It was another time Everything was blue Everything was fine
And you were always there And I could see clear I was always yours You were always mine
Rise above it Rise above it Rise above it
I see her on the ceiling She’s staring down in her gown I had to make allowances Between my love and going out
Now everything is closing up The last call is well asleep At gigs I dance with a Blue Nun Now heartburn is going cheap
I saw it in a dream It was another time And everything was true Everything sublime
You were always there And I could see clear I was always yours You were always mine
Rise above it Rise above it Rise above it
I saw it in a dream It was another time Everything was true Everything sublime
You were always there And I could see clear I was always yours You were always mine
Rise above it I wouldn’t tear it up again

Seems to me like they want us to be afraid, man Or maybe we just like being afraid Maybe we just so used to it at this point that it’s just a part of us Part of our culture Security alert on orange It’s been on orange since ’01, G. I mean what’s up man? Can a brother get yellow, man Just for like two months or something God damn Sick of that Mic check
The groove is dead so I’mma rhyme like a lunatic I do this shit with an unassuming wit The Corporation conjured up the bass and the tempo My name is Lif, that's the intro, now let’s go The flow of life throwing strife into the mix To the big dark condition and the word is sick The power's that be, a power in me To speak, a pause, stress and strife that I see everyday And more to speak upon the culture of fear It’s up in your ear They're tellin' us, terrorists are about to strike, maybe tonight, right Let me just back up slowly, with critical analysis of those who control me It used to be we just had a screen in the crib, on the tv But now we carry screens when we leave see Laptops, smart phones, now we're never alone A new affliction I call it media dome But on the road famine is the programming You want to watch a favorite show because it's so slamming Hold hands and let's gaze into the beautiful glare While we're here so immersed in this culture of fear
Yo We fear the IRS, fear for INS, fear God I'm more afraid of the credit card than the terror squad Cuz really y'all, they steppin' with weapons overseas Yet Mastercard and Visa won't allow me to breathe They deceive, the enemy is in the fine print They assassinate, sell it With no signal of the selling Won't some steal it to get a few with the blue sky It's beautiful, then a couple of choppers flew by, Dubai Represent an element ahead A sentiment that you feel on the road for real The deal starts with a smile, concludes with a hand shake Physical to alter your subliminal landscape Relief thinking I can really trust that guy To be honest could have should have really punched that guy Now it's operation shank a banker Thank you for the loan See you when you come to repossess my home Alone at night sweating with visions of Armageddon I've never seen the threat, yet I feel threatened Parts of our society designed to smear freedom Don't succumb to this culture of fear Don't succumb to this culture of fear Don't succumb to this culture of fear
