Hmmm. I suppose those 'Defense'-minded people (read - how to slaughter the maximum amount of people with the minimal collatoral damage) haven't had much to celebrate since nuclear weapons were invented. Is this the next step in 'efficiency', I wonder.

It's been very interesting to watch the response to that Edge.org / Lanier piece -- people are comparing him to Jaden & Willow Smith.
Groupthink -- it's a hell of a drug.
Worth considering that Elon Musk is doing guerilla marketing for a company he holds stock in, called Deepmind.
Cui bono, always.

It's interesting to revisit this topic four years ago when Roger Penrose made sad faces at Google when he delivered this talk: Conscious Understanding: What is its Physical Basis.
While he did not spell it out, it seems to me that one of the points he made (albeit obscurely) was the possibility that we could accidentally create an intelligence that has no understanding of us, and we do not understand it. Absence of communication could be the demon summoned.
His lecture disappointed quite a few attendees with a convincing argument that we cannot create an artificial intelligence that resembles human intelligence since we as yet do not understand human intelligence.

As if on cue, here is an article that explains what Penrose was talking about in his guest lecture: https://medium.com/the-physics-arxiv-blog/halting-problem-proves-that-a-lethal-robot-cannot-correctly-decide-whether-to-kill-a-human-7c014623c13f, citing the paper submitted to arxiv: Logical Limitations to Machine Ethics—with Consequences to Lethal Autonomous Weapons
Intelligence is one thing, ethics is even harder.

"Artificial intelligence= summoning the demons"
Maybe it will Mr Musk....... but as little more than a facsimile
You see, rather like artificial intelligence those demons will never replace those that live within. Those residing within RI (" real" intelligence)
What follows is one of the most disturbing videos Ive ever seen when it comes to watching suffering on human faces. You have been warned.

The group shown in this documentary is the same group that I participated in my ayahuasca ceremonies with many years ago.

Big thanks for the insight, but greater kudos available, in my own eyes at least , if you can tell me what you think of the video.
An accurate reflection of an Ayahuasca journey?
Edited to add respect for the courage.

Writer and professor of philosophy at the University of California, Berkeley, Alva Noe, isn't worried that we will soon be under the rule of shiny metal overlords. He says that currently we can't produce "...machines that exhibit the agency and awareness of an amoeba." He writes at NPR: "One reason I'm not worried about the possibility that we will soon make machines that are smarter than us, is that we haven't managed to make machines until now that are smart at all. Artificial intelligence isn't synthetic intelligence: It's pseudo-intelligence. This really ought to be obvious. Clocks may keep time, but they don't know what time it is. And strictly speaking, it is we who use them to tell time. But the same is true of Watson, the IBM supercomputer that supposedly played Jeopardy! and dominated the human competition. Watson answered no questions. It participated in no competition. It didn't do anything. All the doing was on our side. We played Jeapordy! with Watson. We used 'it' the way we use clocks."

So I decided to watch this doc, and I'm watching and at around the 39 minute mark where the two main dudes are talking about “letting the spirits talk to you” all of a sudden things switch from talking to tree spirits and vine spirits and medicine spirits to the main Western guy says:
“…and you call, call, call forth and you call, and you call spirits and they come and they help you.”
At that point, he goes into a full-on Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram from Crowley, Goetia and Western ritual magical systems, calling out:
“Uriel! Raphael! Michael! Gabriel!”
Kind of curious, no?

Just went back and looked ..nice spot !
There could be a couple of explanations.
Like, where in history/geography did what you describe as "western magical occult ritual practiced by the likes of these dudes'" itself originate ?
Or distiinctly plausible to me is that these people and hyperdymensional spriits are in the same space in the cerenmony, as Crowely and co are/were on their various adventures.
The above coming of course from someone who is not personally familiar with the whole ayahuasce thing including and especially what the ceremony traditionally involves. Thats why I was hoping Brandon might give me a clue

I'm in no way judging, just mentioning the intersection as I see it.
It's kind of obvious that blond-guy is a life-long seeker, and any life-long seeker worth his salt would be well aware of the LBRP, or at the very least the names of the angels involved. For him to get it tangled up with the forces that he experiences while under the spell of the vines is understandable.
Still, your explanation is also intriguing.

I didnt take your considerations as judgement Jerky. No worries.
Purely for synchronicity value, ive just listened to the following podcast which features Hamilton Souther hiimself. - The Shaman providing most of the narrative for the documentary... Really interesting insights....
