I usually take the adversarial approach in threads. I don't start many, and I don't find it necessary to tell people that I agree with all or most of what they say. This may be a character flaw. I'm generally unsupportive. I have few illusions about this.

If you knew me personally you would probably take it as a compliment that I chose to interact with you at all. I much prefer books to people, with perhaps one or two exceptions.

Usually I attempt to reserve real fire for those who smell like trolls. Or worse than trolls.

If you read the fire pit, you'll discover that I am, er, disproportionately represented there. Of course, you'd also find that I am never the one who gets banned right before the thread gets locked.

(Although the guidelines for acceptable discourse have shifted somewhat over the years, which has made me more wary of actively inflaming threads to smoke out trolls and provocateurs)
