Re: US Presidential Election 2020
The smaller stimulus package being proposed now is a way to get the U.S. congress to agree on any package at all.
Democrats want to go big, Republicans want to give out peanuts. Meeting at the smaller numbers is political haggling, which must be done or there is no sale at all.
Washington at its finest, basically. But Pelosi's statement to the press is just the boilerplate talking points her strategists tell her to stick to, for whatever reasons strategists do what they do.
Sound bites, magic words. "When they ask you about the stimulus package, Nancy, respond with 'vaccine, Biden, science.' And make sure you say 'game-changer.'"

Both his words and manner of speech seemed at first totally unfamiliar to me, and yet somehow they stirred memories - as an actor might be stirred by the forgotten lines of some role he had played far away and long ago.

I think you've hit upon why so many hate the Democrats a little more than they deserve, at least in comparison to the Republicans, and hate the Republicans a lot less than they have coming. Transparent PR-driven hypocrisy while starving them enrages people more than openly justifying starving them because freedom.dada » Sun Dec 06, 2020 1:01 pm wrote:The smaller stimulus package being proposed now is a way to get the U.S. congress to agree on any package at all.

A trapdoor in the Justice Department deal with the family’s company might enable them to escape a full accounting of their part in the opioid epidemic.

It's living in an echo chamber under siege mentality that causes it, I think. Republicans appear as the brutal but honest bad cops, the Democrats all seem like sneaky good cops. America is a big interrogation room. A cia black site, even. But the besieged stick together, they'll never confess.
What it is they're not confessing to, I have no idea. They might not know anything to confess. And yet the interrogation goes on. What a great injustice has befallen the patriots.

I watched that Jimmy Dore thing earlier. First time I've watched him. Its hard to argue with any of it from where I sit.Grizzly » 07 Dec 2020 07:27 wrote:

I fully get the anger those restaurant owners feel, even tho restaurant wages in the US are a farce. I couldn't believe that when I first heard about the economic response to the pandemic. Then the people who supported it. Farcical. Didn't it end up being 6trillion in stimulus of which none went to ordinary people?

Honestly, it's just capitalism. That's exactly what we should expect. No surprise.
The real issue is that there is extremely low likelihood that the speculations of the untrained, on a topic almost pathologically riddled by dynamic considerations and feedback effects, will offer anything new.

What percentage of twitter and FB accounts promoting the "Stop the Steal" BS are sophisticated bots?
A lot, I bet.
And that guess probably has as much or more real evidence behind it than anything Ghouliani or Bat-Dad Grassley has up the sleeve.

Only in a nation that had taken leave of its senses would Tulsi Gabbard be denigrated and Kamala Harris be queen-in-waiting

Yeah, Russia's thoroughly sane. Thanks RT, from your nation that would throw Tulsi out the window and welcome Kamala if she was bald and had a dick.

Re: US Presidential Election 2020
Sounds like Pravda ffs. I'll react to the reactionary itself. How does Russia choose between the prosecutorial warmongers and the principled? In these United States of the Insane, the inmates are running the asylum as American militarism and corporate power are now deemed benign, it is declared gender doesn’t exist, and Kamala Harris is worthy of celebration while Tulsi Gabbard is deserving of denigration.
America always gets the leadership it deserves, and when Joe Biden falls, or more likely gets pushed, down a flight of stairs and Queen Kamala ascends to the throne, we will get what we deserve. And that certainly isn’t a person of the quality and worth of Tulsi Gabbard, that’s for damn sure.

I dunno if repealing section 230 is half as good an idea as this article makes out.conniption » 12 Dec 2020 08:20 wrote:RT

Isn't section 230 the thing that effectively allows free speech online?
At least from a functionality pov?

Re: US Presidential Election 2020
My feeling: Trump's outgoing administration will begin a war with Iran over the next week to ten days, appearing to 'force' the incoming Biden administration to 'carry the ball' into the new administration, which they will. Biden will die early, Harris takes over, tens of millions will die, Israel is triumphant.
Hope I'm wrong.

Re: US Presidential Election 2020
It's a terrible idea. If it's repealed most comment sections and a ton of forums will disappear virtually overnight. As an example Ars Technica's chief moderator has already said their comment sections on articles will be gone the minute it happens. It would lead to more censorship, not less.Joe Hillshoist » Sun Dec 13, 2020 12:46 pm wrote:I dunno if repealing section 230 is half as good an idea as this article makes out.conniption » 12 Dec 2020 08:20 wrote:RT

Also, Trump's veto on the military funding bill over section 230 is probably just a smoke screen (if 230 is repealed he will be one of the first people booted off social media). The bill would also end anonymous ownership of shell corporations in the US.

Came across this from Orlov -- shared in the comments section of a recent posting from J.M. Greer @ ecosophia.net.
Haven't corroborated these figures yet, other than checking for registered voters in the U.S. [see below].
Welcome added assessment here for those with the interest to dig into these numbers.

https://cluborlov.blogspot.com/2020/12/ ... r-end.html...were they able to do basic arithmetic, they would have spotted the problem: 74 million votes for Trump plus 81 million votes for Biden gives us 155 million votes total. But there were only 153 million registered voters just two years ago, so that's 101% voter turn-out. And then 160 million are said to have voted, so that's 104.5% turn-out! Compare that to 55.7% turn-out in the 2016 election.
There is no way to make the numbers make any sense. Since 2016 the US population grew by just under 8 million. Optimistically assuming half of them became eligible to vote; that would add 4 million to the rolls. Optimistically assuming all of them actually registered to vote, that would only make 157 million. Accept the reported stunning voter turn-out number for 2020 of 66.7%. That's just under 105 million votes total—nowhere near then 160 million number that has been reported. If Trump got 74 million votes, as reported, then just 31 million votes would be the theoretical maximum for Biden—less then half as many as for Trump.
