IMO Penn is more the attention seeking individual rather than anyone heroic here.
Photogenic though and he looks like he is playing a role. But think his own attention thinking motivation, knowing he would be noticed by media and used as a tool but not part of any planned conspiracy, a convenient asshat.
If he was serious about making a documentary, Penn would have teamed with an investigative journalist who knew something specific about the region and the politics, way beyond what an actor that markets themselves as an "activist".
Want to like Penn and think a skilled actor and FTs, but he is a woman abuser and otherwise unsavory.

You won't find much disagreement here...

My mind is by nature rational and measured but not nearly as functional and intermittent at present.
Thought that might be so (lack of disagreement).

I saw a photo of Stephen King with an
I Stand with Ukraine shirt of some sort on. I guess he generally keeps to himself so its a bit more of a statement on his part than Penn but that's the trouble with vacuous ninny's taking themselves seriously I guess. At least King can type alot I spose. Actors are essentially the most meaningless profession or job or whatever that there is. No wonder they want to project the impression they matter.

I shall beg to differ, vigorously. No more than that.

I mean from a personal fulfilment pov. Not necessarily that other professions are better. But you can disagree all you like.

Maybe should have qualified it with "celebrity actors".

Russia to host first International Anti-Fascist Congress
Moscow plans event to unite global efforts to fight fascism after launching offensive partly to ‘denazify’ Ukraine
Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu has announced plans to host the first International Anti-Fascist Congress, escalating Moscow’s push to fight Nazism amid the Ukraine crisis.
Shoigu told reporters about the new event on Tuesday, saying it would be held in August, in conjunction with the “Army-22” international military technology forum near Moscow. The initiative is meant to “unite the efforts of the international community in the fight against the ideology of Nazism, neo-Nazism in any form of its manifestation in the modern world,” he said.
Russia is calling attention to its anti-fascism agenda at a time when it’s fighting a conflict in Ukraine partly to “denazify” the former Soviet republic.
“Your fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers did not fight the Nazi occupiers and defend our common Motherland to allow today’s neo-Nazis to seize power in Ukraine,” President Vladimir Putin said last week, announcing the military operation against Kiev.
While the US and other NATO members have accused Russia of citing false pretexts to justify an “unnecessary war” in Ukraine, Moscow has argued that Western leaders are supporting neo-Nazis in the country. An estimated 27 million Soviet citizens were killed during World War II, primarily by Nazi Germany. Modern-day Ukraine has embraced a number of WWII Nazi collaborators – including Stepan Bandera – as national heroes.
Delegations from 129 countries have reportedly been invited to attend the military forum. It’s not clear how much international participation the Anti-Fascist Congress will attract, at a time when the US and its allies are calling on countries around the world to punish and isolate Russia over the conflict in Ukraine.

No doubt posting this means I support the West and everything they've done to trigger this war this century.
Have at it.

At their best, actors are a kind of Shaman. A conduit between worlds.
