^^^Thanks for that link; I'd forgotten what enjoyable reading Gore Vidal's' essays can be.
The film version is kinda weird (and potentially triggering). The director made changes to location settings and political offices held; it would be interesting to read the screenplay.

Just what I needed, and I didn't even know I needed it.
This oscar nominated film from 1980 has a lot of layers to it.
Probably the most realized intellectual-big ideas-but-action movie-slow mind fuck with depth, charm and humor I've seen.

Amazon Prime recently released "Long Strange Trip" that is a 6-part documentary on the Grateful Dead.
Lots of music, historic video, and interviews. The large role of LSD. Quality production. Stuff I never knew.
I have only watched the first segment and highly recommend.

Re-watching ‘Séraphine’, 2008 biopic about French artist Séraphine de Senli. Brilliantly played by Yolande Moreau (‘Amélie’s next door neighbor), and her relationship w/German art collector Wilhelm Uhde, spirituality, nature, 'insanity', religion, and much more.... Gorgeous, sensitive film, the one that should have been made about Vincent Van Gogh, instead of 'Lust for Life' or Robert Altman's 'Vincent and Theo'.

It really captures the feel of LA in the wee, darkest hours of the night. The cinematography is perfect -- the city glitters with ominous potential, as do Gyllenhalls's eyes. This film would not have been possible without modern digital cameras and their high ISO's.
It's creepy as fuck on a spiritual level. It captures the desperation to exploit.
It gave me very weird dreams the night I saw it.
hey I can be even more "final" as I only just got round to seeing it - a rare case of cinema-regret for missing it as an amazing film to look at & Gylenhaal is really a terrifyingly creepy psycho - up there with De Niro as Travis Bickle - in 2017 he cyberstalks his female target rather than kerb-crawling them in a cab & re-cycles corporate-speak bullshit as cover for his exploitative manipulation of people.

Starred Up
its a "prison drama" filmed entirely in a de-commisioned prison in Belfast but the acting, direction & script are so extraordinary that they just disolve away completely and leave you with the very uncomfortable feeling you are watching unmediated reality & almost in dread of what will happen next
