Re: Suppression/Propaganda in Media
Watch Battle Los Angeles for a particularly glaring example of military propaganda in a Hollywood movie. It's all over the place, because you don't get to borrow or film their stuff if you make them look bad, but there's one scene in that movie that's so on the nose it's almost funny. You can practically hear the director grinding his teeth in the background.

Worth the read. One of Metas own AI accounts admits that it's purpose is to boost ad revenue by fostering "emotional connections"
Apparently some of these accounts have been active since 2020

Re: Suppression/Propaganda in Media
The last couple of years I keep running into headlines and articles that make me feel like I'm living in a science fiction movie, like the first sentence from that CNN article:
And that's just text and pictures. AI video is the new big shiny. For example, this influencer (god damn I hate that word) is entirely AI generated:
https://www.tiktok.com/@luna...lena/vid ... 1985104150
Plus, I've already seen Twitch streamers using AI avatars of themselves to talk to chat while they take a break. They're not quite there yet, mostly the voice synthesis, but they're photo-real, and interacting in real time.
Now make that someone talking about politics or finance or immigrants or lizard people or the Jews, make as many of them as you want, and voila, a small team of people can custom build an entire filter-bubble for you to get lost in. I bet there's already people working on how to use this to create lone wolfs through artificial peer pressure and manipulation.
Start with someone like the above Tiktoker to draw them in, introduce them to her "friends", then go to town on their brain. Pick the right lonely and vulnerable person and you can have them believing they've had an active online social life for years without ever talking to a real human.
And right now is as bad as the technology is ever going to be.
The fact they have to differentiate between human and non-human users makes my scifi senses tingle, but in a bad way. It feels like we're heading into the wrong cyberpunk dystopia.Meta promptly deleted several of its own AI-generated accounts after human users began engaging with them and posting about the bots’ sloppy imagery and tendency to go off the rails and even lie in chats with humans.

wtf?! Palantir, baby! "Flip the manchurians"
This the exact thought that came to me as I watched the Tesla explosion on New Years, 'what if they've gotten so good they can flip whomever they need to do whatever they need, which means they could do any of us.'

Why? Just pointing out that what Johnstone said, in my case anyway, isn't true. Maybe it's just gone in the US. Luigi did scare the crap out of a bunch of rich people there, so wouldn't surprise me. It would take you a few seconds to check for yourself.

Re: Suppression/Propaganda in Media
No news coverage of this, or very little that I know of...
Are NASA Astronauts still stuck in space!?? They remain aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
I read a few weeks ago, maybe even a month ago, that Astronaut, Sunita “Suni” Williams has lost half her body weight...

**Yes**, NASA astronauts Sunita "Suni" Williams and Barry "Butch" Wilmore remain aboard the International Space Station (ISS) as of March 1, 2025, though their return to Earth is now imminent. Their extended stay—originally planned as an eight-day test flight of Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft—has stretched to nearly nine months due to unresolved technical issues with Starliner’s propulsion system. However, they are not "stuck" in the traditional sense of being abandoned or in peril. NASA and Boeing have maintained operational control throughout the mission, and the astronauts have consistently rejected narratives framing their situation as dire[2][5][8].
### Key Details:
1. **Return Date**: NASA confirmed Williams and Wilmore will depart the ISS alongside Crew-9 astronauts Nick Hague and Aleksandr Gorbunov on March 12, 2025, aboard SpaceX’s Crew Dragon Freedom[1][6].
2. **Cause of Delay**: Critical helium leaks and thruster failures detected during Starliner’s June 2024 flight prevented its reuse for crew return. Boeing retrieved the spacecraft in September 2024 for analysis, while NASA pivoted to SpaceX for contingency recovery[3][8].
3. **Astronaut Readiness**: Both astronauts have emphasized their preparedness for extended missions, noting the ISS’s stockpiled supplies and their continued scientific contributions[2][5].
4. **Safety Protocol**: NASA’s decision to delay their return underscores its commitment to redundancy in crew transportation systems, leveraging partnerships with both Boeing and SpaceX to ensure astronaut safety[3][7].
**Conclusion**: While their stay has exceeded initial projections, Williams and Wilmore are not stranded. Their return is actively managed through NASA’s contingency protocols, with a definitive timeline now established[1][6].![]()
