What you don't know can't hurt them.

She probably should have thought of that before she called American Dream a catamite. One might imagine that if you're going ro flat-out say that the poster you're addressing has been taking it up the ass from Tony Greenstein, you ought to be ready and able to handle the return fire. Maybe her supporters missed that tidbit, or shined it on, or even supported her saying such things here, but for me that was when I realized it was pretty much anything goes. She crossed a line with that one, and should have been suspended.crikkett wrote:Alice wrote that personal attacks drove her off
She's got a point there, I guess.and furthermore, she wasn't thrilled with the idea that everything she wrote would be attacked because she wrote it (a different fallacy that I can't remember the name of.)

I'm having a hard time reconciling those two statements, because the Stewart Lee video seems to be insisting that there are clear reasons for regarding certain behaviors as abhorrent. I don't see any political correctness happening here at all, anyway. Zero.beeblebrox wrote:I'm with you on that, I'm glad I took the time to listen to it.
yes I read it so I can't understand why you are still reading my posts and replying to thembrainpanhandler wrote:see pm.seemslikeadream wrote:am I on your ignore list or not? It's hard to tell if I am suppose to respond to you

yes there is EXTREME political correctness here, no doubt....(a recent addition)
can't give examples because I am for the first time in 7 years afraid to post something
....and a couple real bullies also
thanks to Saurian Tail for being brave enough to be able to say how she felt....at this point I have no bravery and that makes me sick to my stomach
.......but lots of other people didn't
This is a very accurate observation, dadadada wrote:You can tell a thread is potentially heading for trouble when you see so many quote boxes within quote boxes it looks like a fractal. Also when someone takes a post, splits it into separate sentences, and responds to each one. When I find myself going there, I know it's time to take a step back, let some water pass under the bridge. Just a general rule of thumb I find helpful.
I watched the video and thought some valid points were made, enough to make me reconsider my position, though not entirely. Lee used some fairly extreme examples to make his point, for example, his "you can't even write racial slurs in excrement on peoples cars" line.barracuda wrote: [beeblebrox wrote:The censorship and political correctness is getting a little stifling around here.I'm having a hard time reconciling those two statements, because the Stewart Lee video seems to be insisting that there are clear reasons for regarding certain behaviors as abhorrent.beeblebrox wrote:I'm with you on that, I'm glad I took the time to listen to it.
Memorably put!dada wrote:You can tell a thread is potentially heading for trouble when you see so many quote boxes within quote boxes it looks like a fractal. wintler2 wrote:What the fuck is the point of daily horror stories and ritual venting?
To promote or coordinate going-concern efforts to rein in abuses of power? Except that doesn't happen, theres just the horror story followed by hating and scapegoating, as if those evil police/soldiers/politicians bear all responsibility for everything bad, and we poor kittens can only mew pathetically about our lot. Orwells 2 minute hate is alive and well and conditioning slaves daily.
Well, shoot, I can honestly say that I don't know WTF I'm talking about half the time. The George Carlin video I posted was meant as kind of a rebuttal to the Stewart Lee video, even though I agreed with much of what Stewart Lee said. Additionally, I attempted to explain myself further with my response to barracuda, but that might not have made any sense either. Feel free to explain to me why you find that post ridiculous too, I would appreciate your input.brainpanhandler wrote:Funny you say that, because I thought it was hilarious and I don't agree that:beeblebrox wrote:I'm with you on that, I'm glad I took the time to listen to it.Pierre d'Achoppement wrote:
