I saw Mad Dogs and Englishmen at Winterland in San Francisco. I had a Joe Cocker and the Grease Band album but had never heard of Leon Russell before that evening. Van Morrison was the opening act. There may or may not have been a 3rd act before Van Morrison, I do not recall. We were on the floor maybe 30 feet from the stage. The set opened with only Leon Russell with guitar, top hat and stage light alone on the stage.
