where is some indication that the light from outside the car (bright as it is) is in some way making highlights/reflections on the inside of the car?

hold on a second there experts,

firstly that light does not look like after effects post production,
it has very interesting sub beams that break from the main angular direction, it also has an interesting range of colour within it,
for someone to fake it and place it within the context of the car windows they would have to be bloody good and subtle, not over playing the effects,
if i were to try and fake it, being a graphic designer and user of photopshop and after effects i would have tried to put more light into the car to 'make it look convincing',
secondly this clip is allegedly filmed in bullsbrook which is about forty minutes from the centre of perth, where i live,
not out in the desert miles from habitation,
there is a mind boggling expanse of land and space in western australia to test things, and no good reason to do it on the edge of the only city
i think the family look and act totally natural and realistic,
and i think the accompanying text has a legitimate ring to it,
people here are not interested in ufo's, i rarely here anyone even mention the subject,
innaloo is a non descript suburb of perth, hardly a place to stage a faked lights show

We are looking straight out the back window so we are seeing the shelf almost edge on. In the second to last frame it is jet black, but not in the last one. This highlight could be comming from the brake light, I can't tell.

To fake this video would take more expertise than most people have. Lots of people have photoshop and with pratice most people can get very good at it. Not so with video, the software to produce a good fake video is quite expensive and takes a good deal of training to use. This video was either professionally done or is not a fake.

..and if someone did prduce it professionally, what was their motive, making a light like that that roars like a jet and all that? i mean this one does not fit any conventional ufo description, there isnt even a craft, its just light and sound.

why make that up?

What motive? To make an enigmatic but authentic-looking UFO movie. Pretty simple. It would get the filmmaker attention and possibly money.

My god I just watched the whole thing and I can't believe any of you entertain the notion that this is real!

Quote:
it has very interesting sub beams that break from the main angular direction,

Yes, and After Effects has some very interesting plugins which create exactly this effect.

Quote:
for someone to fake it and place it within the context of the car windows they would have to be bloody good and subtle, not over playing the effects,

Yeah, a special effects guy could never be "good" or "subtle".. (tho in this case you're right; the special effect was neither particularly good nor subtle.)

Quote:
if i were to try and fake it, being a graphic designer and user of photopshop and after effects i would have tried to put more light into the car to 'make it look convincing',

So wait... the fact that it doesn't look convincing is proof that it's real!? I watched some more of the videos on that site and they all look pretty after-effectsy

Another sign of lack of autheticity and/or being viral marketing is the site itself... it's so plain and lacking in content... no links to other UFO sites, no real intro or commentry or context, just some google ads for $$$

IMHO, viral marketting. It's odd to begin with that a UFO website consists solely of video clips, and not written accounts. It grows odder when we read the FAQ, and find that they're no longer accepting UFO reports, and that while all of the site's content has been sold to an unnamed documentary producer, TV news shows are enocuraged to use the clips royalty-free, so long as they mention the source. What clinches it for me is when I look at WHOIS, and find that the domain was only registered on June 3rd of this year, and was registered by an Alan Stewart of Melbourne.

Domain Name: AUSTRALIANUFOWAVE.COM
Reseller..............: PlanetDomain
Created on............: 3 Jun 2006 17:31:58 EST
Expires on............: 3 Jun 2008 03:31:57 EST
Record last updated on: 3 Jun 2006 17:31:58 EST
Status................: ACTIVE

Owner, Administrative Contact, Technical Contact, Billing Contact:
Allan Stewart (ID00250889)
level 3
538 Collins St
Melbourne, Victoria 3000
Australia
Phone: +61.399234163
Email: wearenotalone@mac.com

I'm willing to bet that this is Alan John Stewart, who's active in the SF fandom. He was one of the directors for the 1999 WorldCon (AussieCon III), and was also for many years the Australian correspondent for "The Ansible". s_alanjs@eduserv.its.unimelb.EDU.AU used to be (and may still be) his main address, if anyone cares to write and ask him. The whole thing just looks fishy.

-Sepka the Space Weasel

Yeah... if the site's only been around for that short a time it seems inconcievable that he'd already have been overwhelmed with submissions (none of them credited to any particular contributor) to the point of refusing to accept any more, and bought out by a TV company.

People are getting really lazy with their viral marketing these days.

I work in the movie trailer business in LA. Shine is the most popular plug-in for After Effects and Avid for the light ray effect. It's used pretty regularly. Shake and Combustion and other compostiting programs have their own "light ray" plug-ins. Doing those lights wouldn't take very long. You just need to do a couple rough mattes around the windows. Maybe feather the edges a little. I use the Avid, Final Cut and a little After Effects, but I'm not a graphics expert, mostly an editor. I asked the lead 3-D graphics guy at the place I work and he thought the effect in the video would be pretty simple to do just using Shine. He also said because the video is so low quality it would be even easier, because it's all kind of muddy to begin with so the composite doesn't have to be that accurate.

The family in the car is pretty believable though.

Trapecode Shine
