New mods.

Postby barracuda » Thu Apr 15, 2010 12:19 pm

Hey man, my ideas on this are pretty vague. I am hoping for a woman, (Willow? I doubt she's interested), and a non-Jew hater. Maybe politics shouldn't enter into it that much, but maybe it should. Any responses to your clarion call?

Got a pm from SMiles nominating Jack Riddler. I think he'd be fine, but I agree, I'd prefer a woman.

What do you think of Peregrine? She seems to be a temperate and widely liked soul.

I like her, myself. Maybe we could use the help of a dominatrix around here.

RocketMan humbly volunteered, saying he'd had some mod experience. I thanked him and said I'd keep him in mind, but that we'd like to go with a woman.

Canadian watcher and yatrib would be good choices.

I'm okay with letting it ride for a few days before making overtures.

Wow. I'm really having to restrain myself from posting in the "Thanks to Sunny" thread. Are people on the board really so crazy that they'd consider Hugh as an admirable choice for a moderator? I'm really getting a good grasp there of who not to ask to the prom.

I hope you'll let me know if you think I'm causing too much trouble as a mod here, dude. It irks me to watch the tea-party symathisers (23, apologydue, etc.) begin to dominate discussions around here, and I feel the need to jump in with both feet sometimes, not as a mod but as a poster. But reading that thread I can see that some people would rather the mods offered a more restrained set of views on the issues on the board, and I wonder sometimes if my responses, carrying as they do the added weight of the "mod" baggage, should be more modulated themselves.

But it also strikes me that the only people who are voicing concerns over the behaviour of the "mods" (considering that I am the only one now) are those persons with whom I have had genuine philosophical differences. Anyway, it's interesting.

Enough with the moment of self doubt.

Hey, everything you just wrote is why I wanted you as a mod. Don't inhibit yourself as a poster, because your posts help set the tone that I like about this place. And I think it's absolutely appropriate to challenge Paulists and teabaggers towards either moderation of their views or its bannable extreme.

I haven't read that thread lately. Really, Hugh, moderator?

Re: Huge explosion in Oslo

Postby barracuda » Wed Jul 27, 2011 12:45 am

Regarding the "Huge explosion in Oslo" thread:

Laodicean and stickdog99 were being dicks to everyone they were arguing against in that thread, with insults, accusations of acting as apologists for murder, etc. I honestly don't think there was anything I personally did which required a fuck-you and a flounce, other than help essentially place their arguments in a context from which they couldn't effectively continue them. Sorry, but that's the nature of debate and discussion. And neither I nor anyone else, really, is required to suffer insults from these people in order that they not be offended by being shown how wrong they are.

So when a forum member tells me "go fuck yourself", I really need somebody else - another moderator or you, Jeff - to ask them to cease and desist. Otherwise it just seems like I'm some kind of a bully. Since Canadian_Watcher, it's obviously become such a tactic here, to flounce away and blame barracuda for being such a big meany-head, that I'm gonna request again that you consider getting some other mods in. I can handle it alone, I guess. But little by little, the entire board is coming to despise me a little bit more every time I win another argument.

I don't want to be hated 'cause I'm beautiful. Let's get some other suckers in here to share the magic, soon.
