Slayer..

Postby bubblefunk » Fri Jan 26, 2007 12:04 pm

Slayer sure didn't catch any shit from ME for UNDISPUTED ATTITUDE...I thought it was their best since HELL AWAITS. Focused and brutal, great song choices too.

What I meant about MTX is that the music itself had changed - first it was whiny and kinda fast punk/poppy, like their peers there in SF - later they got all jangly and acoustic & oddly softhearted (still whiny!).

Raw Power: yeah, they sound a little like Minor Threat until the vocalist starts SHRIEKING in a voice Ian could never, ever muster(check out the version of "Fuck Authority" from the 2nd Maximum R&R comp and take it from there) - and until the guitarist whips out his shit-hot metal leads, which sound out of place at first but really turn into RP's secret weapon. Yeah, unintelligible mostly (English lyrics, Italian vocalist...doesn't matter!), but the drift is very clear: rage and righteous rage at that.

And, hey, ability? Anthony Kiedis is still out there, Mike from Suicidal's still out there... they're utterly untalented and should be an inspiration to you!

Nice talking to you.

Yahhh, three times replying and three times it gets eaten by CPU Quota death screen

MTX: yeah you're right come to think of it. I didn't follow they're career path all that much I liked the album that had BaBaBa on it. You'd be surprised how much you can rock out to that song

As for Raw Power, I don't go on torrents much so I DLd the easiest stuff to find which was the 25 yr best-of. They did change some over time but I couldn't peg which songs were from when right off. I can't believe I'd never heard of them before.

You definitely have to check out The Locust. Not so much righteous rage as 'Craig Ferguson pointless rage' but listen to one 'song' and you'll get it. I never went to any of their shows (not sure if they're still together?) but I have a hard time imagining..lol anyway its great stuff to spazz out to while backing or driving (interstate only unless you like doing 85 around town)

And hey Mike's rant in ST is well, absolutely classic. If I could rant like that A. I woulda been in a half-way house by 15 and B. I'd be an internet political 'pundit' now.

No, think Cometbus bad for me..

And, hey, ability? Anthony Kiedis is still out there

Bankshot!

EDIT: and hey I tried to check out your stuff online - I wanted to hear your Beach Boy cover particularly - but it keeps nerfing my home internet connection and I have to restart my comp to fix it. I'm gonna try it again when I'm on the road in a few days.
How dare you question my ulterior motives

Fugazi - "Oh" (The Argument)

Number one is acquisitions
There is no foreign soil
Go global like a round thing
Go global like a hole
Every money matchmaker
Splicing green as fast as you can
Let's break it down and start again

Memo to the partners
I'm changing all the locks
I'm pissing on your modems
I'm shredding all the stocks
Choose a color for your ceiling
I'm waiting for the bottom to drop
In a room so brightly lit
I can't see in

You would never say you were out of time
Your secret's out
Coming with the fiction all the time
Your secret's out
But there's a call coming on the other line
Your secret's out

Lapse of luxury
Lapping waste
Cruising towards a bruising crash
Thread held anvil's gonna break
When the letter returns to the sender
I can't hardly wait
God, this room's so brightly lit
I can't see shit

You would never say you were out of time
Your secret's out
Coming with the fiction all the time
Your secret's out
But there's a call coming on the other line
Your secret's out

Thank you may I have another?
I would be your eagle driver
Your service provider
Your matre'd

Thank you, sir, may I have another?
Please

Lyrics from some awful lyric site. Close enough.

Smashing Pumpkins - Drown

No matter where you are
I can still hear you when you drown
You've traveled very far
Just to see you I'll come around
When I'm down
All of those yesterdays
Coming around

No matter where you are
I can still hear you when you dream
You traveled very far
You traveled far, like a star
And you are
All of those yesterdays
Coming around

Is it something someone said?
Was it something someone said?

Yesterday the sky was you
And I still feel the same
Nothing left for me to do
And I still feel the same

I wish, I wish I could fly
I wish, I wish I could lie
I will, I will try
I will, I will
Goodbye

MY ALLEGIANCES ARE ELSEWHERE (copyright 2004 Veal LLC)

My allegiances are elsewhere, broad in magnitude and scope
And I will grow to trust in these commitments, I would hope
Looking at a broader deeper picture
Framed by forces older than my years
It goes well beyond the human
Though human it appears

My allegiances are elsewhere – please do not take me wrong
But if the Ancient Ones come calling, I am gone – so gone
Looking at a forest past a mountain
Looking past the mountain to the sky
If my allegiances are elsewhere
I don’t ask why

My Allegiances Are Elsewhere.

Looking at a blackened blank horizon
Living by an iridescent pond
One would think allegiances formed back then would be gone, so gone
Maybe I can outlive this corruption
Like it seems I’ve outlived all my peers
I can’t believe they’d all just leave me here

Sneakerpimps - Low place like home

You walked all over, in your blunderstones
In your own road movie, with your one armed man
Gonna make it to the problem page
Trouble-shoot your life
Gonna make it to the problem page
Need some time and space

Just to find yourself
I hope you find yourself
In a low place like home
Low place like home

You talked it over from your bedroom throne
Making sense of nothing, like your one armed man,
Read your future in the magazine, search your stars for clues
Read your future in the magazine, tells you what to lose

Just to find yourself
I hope you find yourself
In a low place like home
Low place like home

You fall all over, in your small town heels
Catching hold of nothing, like your one armed man,
Treat your life like a tragedy, self-inflict abuse
Treat your life like a tragedy, precious else to choose
Crucify yourself, I hope you find yourself

In a low place like home
Low place like home

erased

ERASED copyright 2006 Veal LLC

I am one with the roadkill
Dissolved in chemical landfill
Erased
The lesson is shit rolls downhill
Nobody’s getting stuck with a big bill
Erased

Oh Goddamn it
This isn’t the way I planned it
Wanted to have fun, wanted to lie in the sun
I didn’t get enough done

I am broiled with rosemary stuffing
I should have said nothing
Erased
I’d sacrifice all I’ve ever been
Just to take back what I’ve seen
Won’t you help me, Doctor Green?

Oh Goddamn it
This isn’t the way I planned it
Wanted to have fun, wanted to lie in the sun
I didn’t get enough done

Five pounds of sand in a dead man’s gut
Looks like the team’s been cut
Erased, erased, erased.

I was feeling low

Postby bubblefunk » Fri Feb 02, 2007 3:52 pm

So I am playing Todd Rundgren: RUNT, and HERMIT OF MINK HOLLOW,

Never fails to uplift. Prince does the same thing, and so do the Beach Boys (the good albums), but I was in the mood for neither of those. Nice to know I can depend on some artists regularly.

Others that usually raise my spirits: Saint Etienne, Bad Religion, Patti Smith (1st 4 albums), New Pornographers, Psychedelic Furs (most), Dictators (most), Pere Ubu, Apples In Stereo, Bonnie Prince Billy (all recent, GREATEST PALACE SONGS just being one of the best albums I've ever heard).

I hope you are all having a better day than me, though.

tunes

Postby chillin » Sun Feb 04, 2007 10:21 am

I'm listening to UltraTrance 6.0. It's a compilation, I highly recommend the series if you like the Trance. MP3 is loaded with various Roots, Rock, Reggae, trippy stuff.

I've been falling asleep alot to The Iliad & The Odyssey (Unabridged), Part 1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Author: Homer
Date:
01-JUN-2002
Narrator:
John Lescault
Provider:
Commuter's Library
Running Time:
7 h 52 min
Format 2

Little is known about the Ancient Greek oral poet Homer, the supposed 8th century BC author of the world-read Iliad and his later masterpiece, The Odyssey. These classic epics provided the basis for Greek education and culture throughout the classical age and formed the backbone of humane education through the birth of the Roman Empire and the spread of Christianity. If Homer did in fact exist, this supposedly blind poet was from some region of Greek-controlled Asia-Minor and recited his poems at festivals and political assemblies. In this extraordinary two volume audio set, the glorious saga again unfolds, telling the story of courage and magical adventure in Ancient Greece. The Iliad, the first of Homer's epic poems, tells of the counsel of Nestor, Achilles's slaying of Hector, and the defeat of the Trojans by the Greeks. In The Odyssey, in his perilous journey home after the Trojan War, Odysseus must pass through the land of the Cyclopes, encounter Circe the Enchantress, and face the terrible Charybdis and the six headed serpent Scylla. Both epics are translated here by Samuel Butler.

I love the interplay between Zeus and Posidon. I rented Troy the recent movie. Wasn't LOTR, it would be nice to see the Odessy done right with proper reference to the gods included. Wonder who would get to play Athena?
