Well. Its immediate antecedent was on a thread started by someone else, titled "Great Tits Cope Well With Warming." (Here, for your convenience is a handy link to it.) And I started this thread, it looks like, within an hour or so of putting this post up over there:

Great Tit on a Stick

Per wiki:

Great Tits come in many races, but they fall into three groups. Great Tits in temperate Europe and Asia are essentially green above and yellow below. Great Tits in China, Korea, Japan and southeastern Russia are green above and white or yellow-tinged white below, and birds in India and south-east Asia are grey above and whitish below.

It is, like other tits, a vocal bird, and has a large variety of calls, of which the most familiar is a "teacher, teacher", also likened to a squeaky wheelbarrow wheel. In the 1st Movement of Bruckner's 4th Symphony several Great Tit songs are strung together in a very realistic manner. Interestingly, Great Tits from the two south Asian groups of races do not recognize the calls of the temperate Great Tits, and they may be a separate species.

Any hole will do for a nest, and it will readily take to nest boxes.

I love birdwatching, when I'm someplace where there are birds worth watching. As a matter of fact.

Egrets, I've had a few. But then again....

So I guess the answer to your question is:

Pretty much for no particular reason other than that the way the pictures of Tippi and the egret looked next to each another, triggered what you might call a flight of visual and verbal associations, with which I then started playing for my own entertainment and that of others.

In short, my motivation was purely recreational. Kind of like aleatory art, except without the serious creative ambition.

And...thanks so much for posting. That material is fascinating, and it deserves a more serious context than this one.

Best,

No worries!

Except that the above is yet another post that's 100%-free of art, girls, and birds. Though in this case, it's one where there's clearly legitimate and allowable reason for that. So I'm not rebuking you, just saying: Feel free to join the fun.

Not that there aren't some cases where I'm beginning to wonder how many goddamn times I have to explain the ground rules on this one. For fuck's sake. I mean, they're in the thread title.

Leeds photo pervert's appeal bid fails

Published Date: 17 October 2008
A MAN who doctored photos of children to make it look like they were involved in sexual activity has failed in a challenge to his potentially lifelong jail term.
Paul Todd, 48, of Lea Farm Place, Hawksworth, Leeds, was sentenced to indefinite imprisonment for public protection at Crown Court in November after admitting making indecent pseudo-photographs of children and voyeurism.

The imposition of the sentence meant the judge considered Todd such a danger that he must be locked up and not be released until he is considered safe, potentially never.

On Wednesday at the Appeal Court he challenged the sentence and one-year minimum he must serve before first applying for a review, but had his case rejected.

Mr Justice Henriques, sitting with Lady Justice Hallett and Judge Peter Rook QC, said Todd had been dealt with by courts twice for indecently assaulting under-age girls in the 1970s and 1980s and later for attempted intercourse with a girl.

But he had not directly interfered with a child since the 1980s and had since turned his attention to producing photographs of, and spying on, young people.

When police raided his home, they found more than 1,000 pictures of children, of which 10 had been doctored, so as to make it look as though the children were engaging in sick sexual acts with Todd.

When he was interviewed, he described himself as a "loner" and had only produced the images because he was "playing around" with his computer.

An expert's report, published before sentencing, said he had a "dangerous obsession" with children, and his behaviour suggested he was a "dangerous sexual predator" whose level of offending may only have worsened.

Lawyers for Todd argued that it was wrong to conclude that he posed a "significant risk of serious harm."

But, rejecting the arguments, Mr Justice Henriques said Todd could be even more dangerous if he was released and had his photographic equipment taken from him.

"He has, on numerous previous occasions, interfered with girls of the same age as he was photographing, whose images he was storing," he said."

There must be a significant risk that, on release from custody, deprived of using his photographic equipment, he may revert to his earlier conduct."

Thank you brainpanhandler, that one is now my desktop.

I had posted this on OP ED's thread, then realized it should go here.

You're welcome. I was poking around the net looking for something completely unrelated and ran across that image. That happens quite a lot now. I've participated so much in this thread that I have developed an Art With Girls and Birds radar. I've toyed with the idea of counting the number of images in this thread. There's 22 images on the first page. I just counted them. If we take 20 as am aproximate average then there are roughly 260 images in this thread, the vast majority of which comply with the thread rules, give or take, depending on who you ask. There are some other art forms represented, but largely most of the posts have been visual. One wonders where the bottom of this well is.

I really do love this thread.

Here's the link to the Wallpaper Abyss site where I snagged that image. You can find the full res version there. I can't quite make out the signature.
