Same day Arcadia made this post I was planning to make one similar, but not the same. After watching this massacre I hesitate, but....

I am not saying I will never be back because I enjoy the forum. I am saying that I have hit a turning point of some sort, and that my interests are drifting. Keeping up with the financial and political turnstyle is not as interesting as it once was.

My interests for the time being have drifted more toward my present 'retooling' I am engaged in, which consists of my schooling in the medical field, and my interests in the esoteric world, in a more 'natural' manner. Meaning I suppose, mother nature's wonderful arrangements, and a few other things.

Were it not for this forum I would still be stumbling around like a blind man in the dark. I still am stumbling around in the dark in some areas, but the matrix of my own personal Plato's Cave is strung with essential guide wires that will allow the weaving of a much better perspective.

I thank Jeff for providing this forum for us to romp, learn, discuss, fuss, learn, bounce ideas around, and play in. Its a blast, and I love it, but my clock tells me I won't be writing nearly as much, if at all.

I'll never say never because I have no desire to revoke my own privelages should I desire, and who knows.......

I enjoy the perspectives and writings of everyone here, even the ones with whom I disagree, because it is the people I disagree the most with, that I learn the most from, even if I don't like or agree with what I learn.

Opposites have a function, without them, we would never see our own selves.

Perhaps not forever, but "adios amigos", i'll be scarce as.....mmmm....."hounds teeth" around here I feel relatively certain...

How will we know for sure?

Couldn't you just take on another user name and begin posting practical political ideas focused on collective action and shared experience in which we work together through direct means to alter the social and economic injustices that face us every day?

We'd never know it was you.

Ah, internet drama.

We schlubs will just have to carry on in our unenlightened pits as best we can.

XOXOXO

Yeah, let me take this opportunity to express my sincere love and appreciation to you all. And especially in the moment to you vigilant. I'm dead serious when I say: Please Don't Go. You're one of my favorite personalities here. But I do realize that it's an incredibly time intensive activity drafting your posts as you do. Thank you for all you've given us.

I don't want to start calling out names because I'll inevitably leave people out. But there's no place like RI. There's so many good hearts and minds here. And this board is still so very young. Lurkers basking beside the RIver, please jump on in and post.

I can't see Jeff ever dumping this discussion board. If this were even a consideration I hope he'd pass it along to a worthy someone to continue.

To answer those who've asked, the "world view" (quoting others who were quoting myself) that RI seems to engender (for some but not all)
credulous, more or less paranoid, pessimistic, vaguely elitist, and appears to be bereft of any hope for the future.

The saving grace is that not everyone here seems to suffer from this. And not all exhibit 100 % of the symptoms. But there is enough to make one want to give up altogether after spending some time here.

Or perhaps it is just me.
Abdul, wax the beach with postal regret portions. Nevermind the o-ring leader he got not the cheese duster from the dachshund dimension or even pillow frighteners.

again, "elitist". what is that supposed to mean? that's a one-size-fits all Americanism for "I don't like your aesthetic". left wingers are "elitist" for wanting to set up socialized health care. right wingers are elitist for wanting to concentrate money and power. college professors are elitists for expecting students to know canonical works. People who read their politics are "elitist" for having nuanced opinions vs. people who listen to politics on talk radio. etc. One day someone is going to have to explain to me how, e.g., American came to believe that taxing the weatlhy was "elitist" and that sales taxes were somehow populist measures, and don't pretend that isn't out there, especially after an underreported, largely unexamined thirty-year campaign by wealthy elites to convince americans that serving the interest of the elites was in fact somehow a populist measure.

you've got a diffiuclt-to-understand burroughs or burroughs-inspired quote down there, that could qualify as elitist. who wants to sit and read a novel full of drug-hazed verbosity and textual experiments?

OTOH if you mean that there's some gatekeeping going on that's for sure. I also think generally the topics available have gotten stale.. that was part of the reason i signed up, to mine as much from them while it seemed marginally relevant.

I'll agree on the credulousness and paranoid, though, and it's not my place to defend that.

i'll confess to personal pessimism. though by i suppose most standards i'm optimistic in outlook (except on the stock market), i'm just not comfortable with the coming borg future or the degree of conformity I see in my peers. It might just be i'm in the wrong scene, of course

These scorched earth departures from message boards
are, as one, pathetic. Although I must say this one has
touched off a mildly entertaining thread.

I always wonder why these people don't just fuck off
if that's what they want to do?

In any case, this colossal dick couldn't even stay gone
past page 4. So s/he will be back.

Crap, I hate goodbyes, so I haven't wanted to log for the longest time after seeing this thread.

Et, you helped breathe life into this flophouse of the mind. Thanks for that and other things. I can respect your decision to move on, but I also have to say I hope someday there'll be good reason to revisit it.

BTW, I'm sorry for however my occasional disappearing acts contributes to anxiety about the board. I'm not shutting it down, I've just had to shut myself down, temporarily.

*Note: not making fun of anybody in particular, just remixing phrases heard hereabouts, poking fun at all of us.

EDIT: And though this is EiAE's farewell thread, I think he would care that I don't care and am hijacking it anyway, so it's in his spirit in a way.

Not implying the board has really been hacked, but I will point out that this version is obsolete and may have security holes.

I need time off this board. If I'm going to be dissected in a petri dish and blah blah blah

yeah, right ...

anyway,
i like this place, i like you bunch of characters,
i like jeff and wish i could get to read him a bit more often,
i check here every day and consider it to be essential news, weird, para information,
i really appreciate the people who are digging deep at the moment into banking and money powers - keep it flowing
and i reckon we have all the wills and tools to keep it electric

some tips for how we avoid board potholes?

dont PM each other too much private stuff cos it creates ins and outs,
dont derail threads and if people do, point it out nicely and then just ignore them,
dont form little groups within the group because it diminishes the love,
and dont allow fascists of any persuasion any space at all

sorry if this sounds like me making up my own guidelines,
but with all the boring illusory crap about what it used to be like round here,
and the rumored but not confirmed semi-hiatus of the good jeff,

i thought i'd throw a few things in for those interested in the future
