I don't know what it's about Jeff as I haven't read it. Somebody at the link you posted, which is interesting, thanks, thinks it's a knock-off of Lolita, which it may be, though I read Lolita and didn't find it especially worthy of literary immortality. I've also come across suggestions that Nabokov was employed by clandestine agencies, and no I'm not claiming it's a fact.
Anyway, Davis sounds like a perfectly nice man, and if he really was a free-thinking communist poet older friend I see that as a point in Obama's favor. So maybe the fact that he also wrote porn novels and mentored Obama at his house while he was between the ages of 10 and 17 is just a coincidence, ditto the admiration for military bases Obama professes in "Audacity of Hope," and even more disturbing the "pride" and "trust" he claims to have felt in that arch-dissimulator Ronald Reagan. Obama:
"I couldn't be persuaded that U.S. multinationals and international terms of trade were single-handedly responsible for poverty around the world; nobody forced corrupt leaders in third World countries to steal from their people. I might have arguments with the size of Reagan's military buildup, but. . . . Pride in our country, respect for our armed services, a healthy appreciation for the dangers beyond our borders . . . in all this I had no quarrel with Reagan. And when the Berlin Wall came tumbling down, I had to give the old man his due. . . ." (Audacity, p. 289)
So speaking purely personally, no, I don't believe it's a coincidence that the guy who wrote "Sex Rebel: Black" happened to be the "mentor" of the Reagan-like automaton now being promoted in a Barnes and Nobles near you by a book with the ridiculous title "Obama: Renegade" featuring a photo of Barack in a sexy Malcolm pose, wearing a tie of course and smiling. IMHO and in my view, he's a fraud of the first order and mind controlled to boot, and as a resident of the US it's frightening.
