If you have intentions of implementing draconian measures of martial law in the not too distant future, you would want your controlled population to be as disarmed as possible beforehand.

Anyone remember larry singleton? The guy raped then hacked off the arms of his victim, and left her for dead in a ditch(before someone at the last minute rescued her)

For some reason the state was really adamant about giving him a second chance after only 8 years, despite ALL the evidence he was even more psychotic...they quietly released him in a Florida suburb where he ended up not only killing a prostitute, but a whole family.

It's...almost like that powers that be *intentionally* let loose killers to keep the public in a state of fear.

I think you've got a very good point about keeping the public in fear. Fear keeps people complacent and dependant.

(As an aside, several years ago I read a magazine article--probably 'People'--about the teenager who survived Larry Singleton's attack. She's a remarkable woman. She became an artist and the article featured pictures of her work, incredible drawings of warrior women. It still shocks me to know they let that guy loose. The death penalty depresses me...because you have a guy pulling a lever with the families getting some sort of false jollies at an electric chair/gas chamber/hanging/injection. At the same time, some of these crimes are so beyond comprehension...at the very least the system is broken. Ms. Dugard should never have been kidnapped for two decades and forced to be raped by some pedophile who never should have been let out.
There's way too many cases of the worst unimaginable crimes being committed by released felons to see it as just some coincidence.

The girl abducted in Florida recently was taken in a square mile area that the cops claimed had 90 or so convicted child sex offenders. WTF? Thats just crazy. America has a very ugly darkside thats beyond all hope if this is the case.

Anyways, Im glad that woman was able to be a mom and move on as best she could. Art is something I believe every living person should do.
Just sad she'll never be able to do many things we all take for granted.

We've just witnessed a "popular" movement instigated by a media conglomerate in which people have taken to the streets and public meetings to basically ensure that the government won't give them health care. Sure you can make some very valid points against Obamacare, but they weren't the ones I heard coming from the teaparties, and if it had been real single payer on the table, I imagine their rage would've only been fiercer.

Who needs a police state when people are that brainwashed - protesting public healthcare. People rejecting their own well being. Come on now.

Lakewood Police shooting suspect is armed and thinks he is Jesus | VANCOUVERITE

TACOMA, Washington – Maurice Clemmons, the man wanted for the first degree murders of four Lakewood City police officers, collected various members of his wife’s family, ordered them to be naked and told them he was Jesus, according to court records made public by police.

Affidavits entered in court show a number of incidents occurred during which Clemmon’s wife and sister reported erratic behaviour on the part of Clemmons during May, including an allegation that he had raped a child living with him at that time.

Clemmons, who has a long and violent record in Arkansas but was pardoned by then Republican Gov. Mike Huckabee in 2000, is wanted for the shooting deaths of officers Tina Griswold, Ronald Owens, Sgt. Mark Renninger and officer Greg Richards in a coffee shop Sunday morning. Police allege Clemmons cut down the four officers in cold blood while they were seated with their laptops prior to going on duty.

Police warned on Monday that “Clemmons, has a warrant for four counts of first degree murder. He has a gunshot wound and is armed. Suspect knows law enforcement is looking for him and should be considered dangerous. There is a $125,000 dollar reward for his arrest. The reward money was put up by the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigations), ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms) and Crime Stoppers.”

He is also wanted on a string of offences in the Seattle area including a bizarre incident reported to police by his wife Nicole Smith who called police to say that her husband was acting “crazy.”

Documents made public by the Pierce Country Sheriff’s office paint a portrait of a man who may be living on the edge of sanity.

The documents show police went to a home near Tacoma on May 11 at the request of his wife over an allegation of child molestation. Police were called at 5:26 a.m.

“The deputy contacted Nicole Smith who reported that her husband the defendant has been acting “crazy”. She reported that she went to sleep around 8:00 pm the night before and was awakened by the defendant at 3:00 am to have sex,” she said.

He woke up a child identified only as J.M. and brought together two others who had gathered at the home out of fear that he’d do something.
He told the group that they should “trust him, the world is going to end soon and that he was Jesus.”

Clemmons called a meeting with his wife and three others and asked them all to undress.

” Smith said the defendant told them they all needed to get naked because it was Sunday and they all needed to be naked for at least 5 minutes together on Sunday. All got undressed because they were “afraid of the way the defendant was acting and how he had fought with the police a few days prior.”

He kept talking to them about the end of the world, says the graphic court document that is being paraphrased here.

“The defendant’s sister reported that the defendant had not been himself lately. He had said that the secret service was coming to get him because he had written a letter to the president (Obama.)

“The defendant’s behavior had reportedly become unpredictable and erratic,” the police report said.

Police conducted a forensic interview with a child who alleged she had been molested by Clemmons.

Following that incident, police charged Clemmons with child rape but he was able to get out on a bond just one week prior to the shootings.

Police said Clemmons suffered a gunshot wound at the cafe, most likely because at least one officer may have fired at him as the carnage began.

Maurice Clemmons, the suspect wanted in slaying of four Lakewood police officers, was shot and killed in South Seattle early this morning.

Clemmons was standing outside in the 4400 block of South Kenyon Street when he was confronted by officers. He challenged the officers and was shot around 2:40 a.m.

Clemmons has been the focus of a manhunt since Sunday morning when he is accused of killing four Lakewood police officers in a coffee shop in Parkland.

No police were injured in the incident.

Police have said Clemmons received help since the Sunday morning shooting from friends and family who gave him places to stay, medical aid, rides and money, police said. Officers detained a sister of Clemmons who they think treated the 37-year-old suspect's gunshot wound.

Police believe people close to Clemmons have misled officers, and Troyer said anyone helping him could face charges. Clemmons' sister wasn't in custody late Monday, and her name wasn't released.

Authorities said the gunman singled out the Lakewood officers and spared employees and other customers at the coffee shop in Parkland, a Tacoma suburb about 35 miles south of Seattle. He then fled, but not before he was apparently shot in the torso by one of the dying officers.

Killed were Sgt. Mark Renninger, 39, and Officers Ronald Owens, 37, Tina Griswold, 40, and Greg Richards, 42.

Police said they aren't sure what prompted Clemmons to shoot the officers as they did paperwork on their laptops. Clemmons was described as increasingly erratic in the past few months and had been arrested earlier this year on charges that he punched a sheriff's deputy in the face.

Pierce County Sheriff Office spokesman Ed Troyer told the Tacoma News-Tribune that Clemmons indicated the night before the shooting "that he was going to shoot police and watch the news."

Police surrounded a house in a Seattle neighborhood late Sunday following a tip Clemmons had been dropped off there. After an all-night siege, a SWAT team entered the home and found it empty. But police said Clemmons had been there.

Police frantically chased leads on Monday, searching multiple spots in the Seattle and Tacoma area and at one point cordoning off a park where people thought they saw Clemmons.

Authorities found a handgun carried by the killer, along with a pickup belonging to the suspect with blood stains inside. They posted a $125,000 reward for information leading to Clemmons' arrest and alerted hospitals to be on the lookout for a man seeking treatment for gunshot wounds.

Two baristas and a handful of other customers were inside the coffee shop at the time of the attack, but none of them were shot or injured.

It sounds like an ultra-professional hit job, and Clemmons sounds like a garden variety patsy. His Jack Ruby moment may be nigh.

Apparently I've lost all facility with the English language. You've simply fleshed out my point for me, LBO. Add paragraphs one plus two, then plus or minus some subtleties and you've basically said what I had already asserted.

Your first sentence suggested an incremental movement towards something physically and visually resembling traditional figurations of martial law and/or fascism, as best I could tell. I was rejecting that idea in my own post and so I don't see what I wrote as an elaboration on your theme or apparent position.

Nor was most of my post intended to respond to you, though it could easily have appeared that way since I did quote you.

The named suspect and questions raised here about him are reminding me of a heinous crime committed in Alexandria VA in 2000, supposedly by another black man named Gregory Devon Murphy. http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dy ... Found=true (from the article..."Murphy, who was released from prison 12 days before Kevin was stabbed, says he was hooked to a machine when he was incarcerated, and a government agency is controlling his thoughts and actions. The machine turns up in his writings and conversations." )

Given the nature of the crime, it understandably generated highly emotional reactions, but I remember thinking that the photo published of Murphy showed the face of a man who looked terribly tormented but didn't convey that of a killer. He was subsequently diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenic and put on anti-psychotic drugs though he tried, through his lawyers, to stop the forced administration of them.

His criminal history, jail time, and 'rants', are eerily similar to Clemmons and makes one wonder what could what happened to Clemmons when he was in custody. (And, since the police victims were all white, it'll be interesting if evidence, like hand written notes indicating racial motives, suddenly turn up.)
