I don't understand how he was so quickly identified. If he had the explosives strapped to his waist, I can't imagine there was much left with which to identify him.... the explosion blew out windows across the street and was heard 4 miles away: how much could be left?

Including the father's remarks. The kid could have gone out into the wilds of Oklahoma to blow himself up if he didn't want to risk hurting anyone else, not done it on a college campus...jeeez. Re: the patent, note that our dead guy is Joel the THIRD. The patent could be his father, or his grandfather, who had the same name, right?

I rechecked, the checkout system patent is for Joel Hinrichs JUNIOR, not III. I would think it would be an uncommon name, but I've found several by googling around...one is a stock car racer in the Midwest, another wrote a Letter to the Editor to the Fresno Bee in 2001 about guns in schools, one is a teacher and coach at a high school in Connecticut...Interesting. If he's part of this family he's got a lot of cousins: Obit from 2000 for Tillie Hinrichs of Garner Iowa who died at 100 says: "She is survived by two brothers, Arthur Boehnke of Garner and the Rev. Arnold Boehnke and his wife, Alice, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a stepson, Joel Hinrichs of California; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Hinrichs, January 26, 1975; six stepsons, Donald Hinrichs, Erich Hinrichs, William L. Hinrichs, Enoch Hinrichs, Gerald Hinrichs and Allan Hinrichs; her parents, Carl and Mathilda Boehnke and four brothers, Albert A. Boehnke, Charles F. Boehnke, William G. Boehnke and Herman Boehnke." What a pisser to have the same name as someone who's suddenly notorious, even if you're not related, and if you are, very weird. "

Assistant U.S. Attorney Bob Troester described the device as a carbon-dioxide cartridge with a black-powder detonator. But Dreyling's landlord, former Oklahoma City Mayor Kirk Humphreys, said he had created a “glorified firecracker” and forgot it was in his luggage. “I know Charlie Dreyling quite well,” Humphreys said. “I appreciate what the authorities are doing making our airlines safe. I have every confidence that they'll find out Charlie Dreyling is a fine young man and no terrorist.” Dreyling had planned to take a Delta flight that travels to Philadelphia through Atlanta, airport spokeswoman Karen Carney said. He was at the Oklahoma County jail on a federal hold and was to appear before a federal magistrate Thursday afternoon, the U.S. Attorney's office said. He could face charges related to possessing an explosive device at an airport, Johnson said. The arrest did not disrupt any flights, Carney said.

Dreyling was released Thursday on $10,000 bail. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. FBI agents and Oklahoma City police officers said the pipe bomb contained a metal cartridge filled with gunpowder attached to a detonator made from model rocket parts, according to an affidavit filed by the FBI. Dreyling, a student at the University of Oklahoma, could have detonated the bomb using his cell phone battery, according to the affidavit. Dreyling told investigators he made bombs for recreation and had recently set off several devices with friends in rural Oklahoma, according to the affidavit.

My and my best friend were fucking around with explosives as we always do when we thaught of an idea. Living in indiana anyone would have tho tools you need to make this too. This is how it's done. Go to any wall-mart or hardware store and buy a pack of Co2 cartriges that you would use for a bb gun, along with some cannon fuse,(You will want at least 4 inches)and gun powder, or black powder, whatever you want. The best thing would be flash powder but you don't have to use that. Then come home and set up a workspace, a garage with tools and a vice is best. -snip

Federal agents arrested Charles Alfred Dreyling Jr., 24, on Wednesday at a security checkpoint after a Transportation Security Administration employee noticed something suspicious in his carryon luggage as it went through an X-ray machine about 9:30 a.m., FBI spokesman Gary Johnson said. The device was described in an FBI affidavit as a carbon dioxide cartridge filled with gunpowder that could be detonated when connected to a power source such as the batteries Dreyling had in his electric razor and in his cell phone, which were also in his carryon bag. An FBI bomb technician concluded the device could detonate with sufficient force to cause serious injury. Dreyling faces a federal charge of trying to get on an aircraft with an explosive device. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He was released to the custody of his mother, Vicki Dreyling. His terms of release include living at his parents' home in north Oklahoma City and a 10 p.m. curfew. Dreyling appeared in federal court wearing an orange Oklahoma County jail jumpsuit and orange flip-flops. About twenty friends and family members attended the hearing in a show of support for Dreyling. He took it down to an outing at the lake, left it in his bag, forgot it and went to the airport.'' Dreyling's carryon bag was removed and an Oklahoma City police officer detained him until the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force came to the airport, Johnson said. A preliminary hearing for Dreyling was set for Aug. 31. No apparent connection between Dreyling and any terrorist group or activity has been found, Johnson said.

for terrorism: if it's in the MSM, it's either fake, or real, perhaps outdated by years, and being used solely for political points (by any of a number of parties -- there's not really a monopoly on access to that info, more of an oligopoly). On the other hand, there've been a decent number -- the exact amount isn't public, and since all this is on the down-low and passed along by rumor impossible to estimate -- of legitimate terrorist attacks (just b/c the big a-q hits are mostly fake doesn't mean that Team USA hasn't been sowing a lot of wind in the past few years), but for all of these the modus operandi is the same: i) keep the any convictions and investigations quiet -- this both helps the investigation proceed and dovetails with the policy coming from the admin (ie, hide all evidence of incompetence) ii) try to warn the media off investigating -- it's rarely difficult to accomplish this in 'post 9/11' america, esp. if the other local outfits bow to the pressure so that the public assumes nothing's going on. More than that I don't know, and as all of this is just rumors passed my way from some cops and other security types, I can't even vouch for its veracity. I'm pretty sure I've brought it up before, but it always bears repeating. Definitely something spooky about Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, and Oklahoma University.

High level sources in the OU Athletic Department are telling this writer that computer records confirm that Merit Scholar/suicide bomber, Joel Henry Hinrichs III has never purchased a ticket to any OU football game. Those same sources also deny reports from local CBS affiliate, OKC News 9, of OU Security turning away Hinrichs from two separate gates, due to his of his refusal to undergo a routine search before entering the packed arena, and attribute such "erroneous" reports to unvetted call-in tipsters at Channel 9's "Hotline". Despite the irrelevant fact that Hinrichs never purchased a ticket, these same officials are admitting that he did acquire large quantities of ammonium nitrate fertilizer, later found in his apartment and quickly transported to the local rifle range for detonation...but at the same time, are continuing to support the official story of one man, one bomb, one suicide. "He was very intelligent and very confused.", I was told, in support of OU's President and former US Senator David Boren's earlier statement that "We are dealing with an individual death caused by an explosive device" and that Hinrichs had "very serious personal problems that led to this tragic death". Even when asked about Hinrichs' roommate and Pakistani national, Fazal M. Cheema, I was told that he was, in fact, detained but later released, because he "knew nothing". This however, seems a bit strange to me, as the man was living with a suicide bomber, his large cache of ammonium nitrate and reportedly, other explosive material, such as the highly volatile TAPA, the homemade concoction of household chemicals, said to have been the ingredients of infamous Richard Reed's "shoe bomb". It should be noted that ammonium nitrate, by itself, is only fertilizer.....so why would it be necessary to remove it to a safe area for destruction...and why should we expect that it had already been "mixed" with fuel, creating an active ANFO explosive, if suicide was the only intent? What we do know is that this estranged young man had converted to Islam, moved into an area of campus housing with mostly Orientals (Middle and Far Easterns) and set about purchasing materials and concocting explosives, culminating in his death, when the device he was carrying exploded...very near a large gathering of Americans. We know that days before the "suicide", an off duty, undercover police officer witnessed Hinrichs trying to purchase ammonium nitrate from Dustin Ellison (Ellison's Feed and Seed), who in turn, witnessed the officer call in the report on his personal cell phone...but according to Tom Easley, of the Norman Police Department, the official intelligence report of this discovery wasn't submitted until three days after the bombing. We also know the FBI has confiscated the security tapes...and we will never, ever get to see them. They have gone the way of the 9/11 black boxes and the video of that Ryder truck (and it's occupants), in front of the the Murrah Building, moments before it was destroyed. In the case of the OU Bombing, I have no doubt that the "official line" will remain the official line...but I have great doubts that the OU Bombing was nothing more than a simple suicide. Logic tells us that Mr. Hinrichs would not have required the company of thousands, just to carry out such a private act, and he certainly would have never needed such a large quantity of explosives to accomplish this lonesome demise. It seems obvious to this writer that Joel Hinrichs was killed by the premature detonation of his suicide bomb, as he waited in frustration on that bench, outside Memorial Stadium. There is little doubt that Mr. Hinrichs was there to "Boomer Sooners".....not "Boomer Sooner".
