The ambidextrousness and the confusion here is awesome. Just check out how an ambi pitcher and a switch hitter, not to mention the umps and the coaches, cannot figure out how to proceed with a game. Happy April Fools. Not really a joke, but is a somewhat interesting clip, funny, light fare. What really can be done in this case -- baseball rules wise? Eventually one guy just has to give up. I mean baseball is boring enough as it is.

Minn. Twins Player Span Fouls Ball Into Mom's Chest

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Minnesota Twins leadoff man Denard Span hit a hard foul ball that struck his mom in the chest during Wednesday's game. She was treated by paramedics and back in the stands minutes later.

"My mom is feeling ok right now!" Span later posted on his Twitter account.

Wanda Wilson was wearing a Span jersey and sitting with about 20 family members and friends near the third-base dugout. Span took a defensive swing in the first inning and sent a liner into the low box seats, hitting her near the shoulder.

A stunned Span sprinted into the stands and stayed with his mother while she got treatment. The split-squad game against the New York Yankees was delayed for a few minutes as she walked to first aid, and the Twins said she was sore but OK.

"What the odds of that happening?" Twins pitching coach Rick Anderson said. "I've never seen it before. It's crazy. I'm standing there right next to it and I heard it and it's just, 'Oh no!, that didn't sound good.' She's on the ground and I'm saying, 'Please don't be the head or something' because it sounded so ugly."

As I have a love of Philadelphia, a devotion to the National League and an urban Northeast bias, and as they are one of those rare, classic great, fun-to-watch teams, I'm more than resigned to it, given the state of the Mets. The Phillies are my second favorite choice.

I am also a Mutts fan, being that I've lived a large portion of my youth in Queens, NY, not far from Flushing Meadow Park... and I preferred their underdog status far more than the elitist/corporate veneer of the Yankees... However, I must say one would be hard-pressed to find a 'fan' with any sort of affinity for another team within the same division of said fan's favrorite team... It almost precludes one from dubbing oneself a FANATIC...

After all, where's the competitive spirit, the near-bloodthirsty rivalry, the passion for one's team, in that?

Clearly you're not submitting to the not-so-subtle fascist conditioning protocols apparent in most [if not all] competitive pro sports, particularly here in the good 'ol US of A [that free country that you alluded to in your response]...

I've got a few friends that are Mets fans, so JR you're all right by me.

Some people take it way to seriously, people in opposing teams colors frequently get verbal abuse riding to and from games on the subway here. NFL fans are the most boorish.

Having experienced both mets and Yankees fans, I can say Yanks fans are way worse than Mets fans. I've never been threatened with rape riding in an elevator full of Mets fans.

I just bought a glove for one of my best friends, a dad-to-be of a boy. I consider it a sacred duty to teach one's son to throw and catch before they enter school. I know people that send their sons to school while the kid still throws like a girl. Why not just strap a skirt on him and be done with it.
