Shiites, FIAT, Fascists...& cartoons?

Postby albion » Mon Feb 06, 2006 10:07 pm

[note: this is the "Italy, Iran...Cartoons?" thread. I just re-titled it.]

Ok, this is completely weird. It doesn't make enough sense for me to try to work up an explanation, so I'll just lay it out there. First, for some reason, last November some Iranians decided to propagandize the late would-be heir to the Fiat empire, making him into a martyr for Islam.

Quote:
IRAN: LATE FIAT LONER BECOMES 'ISLAMIC MARTYR'

Tehran, 15 Nov. (AKI) - A demonstration in front of the Italian embassy in Tehran, more than 100 university events marking the anniversary of his death and a 'documentary' about his life to be aired on Iranian state television. The subject of such obsessive interest in Iran is the late Edoardo Agnelli, heir to Italy's most famous industrial family, the Agnellis, who own the FIAT motoring empire. Under an Iranian urban myth, recently resuscitated and embellished, Edoardo Agnelli's suicide five years ago was 'a Zionist plot' to rob him of his inheritance because he had 'converted to Islam'.

State television is broadcasting a 'documentary' which accredits the thesis of a "Zionist plot" to get their hands on FIAT wealth by killing Edoardo Agnelli. The programme is also being shown on the Sahar satellite channel, translated into Russian, English, Arabic, Urdu and Azeri.

[...] The attempt to make the late Agnelli a Muslim martyr and portray him as persecuted by Jewish business interests is also part of a wider campaign to discredit Italy - one of Iran's biggest trading partners - in a moment of tension betwen Iran and the international community over its nuclear ambitions.

Rome and Tehran have been at loggerheads since Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's comments last month that Israel should be "wiped off the map". The Italian government immediately summoned the Iranian ambassador to protest against the remarks, while the Tehran did likewise once news broke of a pro-Israel rally organised by a Italian daily newspaper outside the Iranian embassy in Rome.

[...] The news agencies close to the government, such as Fars and Mehr, have given unprecedented coverage to any form of protest against the Rome government.

www.adnki.com/index_2Leve...p;offset=0

Frankly, I don't put much credence in the theory that Agnelli was "suicided" by Zionists to rob him of his inheritance, but clearly something's going on. Here's Wikipedia on Edouardo Agnelli's death:

Quote:

Gianni Agnelli, The industrialist patriarch of the Fiat empire at 79, looked at his dead son and listened as the police reported to him that his only son, Edoardo, had committed suicide by throwing himself off a 200-foot motorway bridge just outside Turin, headquarters of his family's car manufacturing empire. Realistically, he had never been in line to succeed his father. Nicknamed Crazy Eddie by the media, he despised the Agnelli business interests and capitalism and opted for the reading of literature and philosophy at Princeton and spending large amounts of time in Africa and India, pursuing his interest in spirituality, and drugs.

Edoardo was detained in Kenya ten years ago on heroin charges; he was in possession of approximately 300 grams. The drug charges were eventually dropped and Edoardo was banned from entering Africa again.

The funeral was immediate. Later that day, the Agnellis began to arrive at the family mansion at Villa Perosa, near Turin. Edoardo was laid in the Agnelli vault on Friday. The gigantic Fiat vehicle plants paused for a moment of respect, then resumed production.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edoardo_Agnelli

FWIW, according to Wikipedia, Gianni Agnelli was "close friends" with Henry Kissinger. Anyway, today the whole "cartoon" thing became part of it:

Quote:
IRAN: HARDLINE NEWS AGENCY BLASTS ITALIAN DAILY

Tehran, 6 Feb. (AKI) - The hardline Fars news agency, close to Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, on Monday launched a harsh attack on the Turin-based daily La Stampa - which is controlled by the Agnelli family, owner of the Fiat automobile empire. Fars called the paper a "Zionist organ" and heavily criticised its decison to publish some of the Danish-originated cartoons satirising the Prophet Mohammed that have recently triggered a crisis in Muslim-Western relations after their appearance in dozen newspapers worldwide.

"Since the Zionists laid their hands on Italy's largest industrial group, even Italy's foreign policy towards Iran has changed, and has become pro-Zionist. If Fiat continues with its anti-Iranian, pro-Zionist policies, the agency warns, we don't rule out a boycott of Italian cars, not only in Iran but in in the rest of the Islamic world," said Fars.

www.adnki.com/index_2Leve...&par=0

My only question is...wtf?

Edited by: albion at: 2/8/06 12:16 am

A bit more on this, in case anyone's interested.

Sunday Business Post: Death of a family firm? I watched it. There are a few English subtitles, but the narration is in Italian, so I can't understand it. But almost everything I've seen on this so far says that Edouardo wasn't even in line to run Fiat, not to mention the obvious anti-semitism running through the whole deal. So I find that aspect of this fairly dubious. Nevertheless...what's actually happening here? Is this all a distraction? A distraction from what?

I just looked up a bit of history: according to Philip Willan, prosecutors in the 1980 Bologna bombing trial mentioned in their indictment that Agnelli family patriarch Giovanni "Gianni" Agnelli once presented Licio Gelli with a "golden telephone" as a gift. Here's Gianni on the cover of Time in 1969:

link to 1969 cover story

Now fast forward to the present day

AP: Fiat's Olympics sponsorship might boost image

Reuters: Agnelli family denies plans to split interests

Reuters: Italy's Fini says militants guiding cartoon fury

So, what's up? Re: Italy, Iran...Cartoons?

Postby Qutb » Tue Feb 07, 2006 8:50 am

Thanks for posting, Albion!

Curious stuff. I suppose the simplest explanation would be that Edouardo actually converted to Islam, then committed suicide, and then the Iranian govt decided to spin his death as a "Zionist plot" for propaganda purposes. What I would be interested in is any reliable sources that could confirm that he did in fact convert? My Italian reading ability is quite limited, but from the "martire dell'Islam" link I gather that there is supposed to exist a photo of Edouardo in "Islamic prayer", and some "manuscripts" that supposedly proves he was in fact a Muslim, all of which the "Zionist mass media" has "refused to print".

His death sounds suspicious though, "Zionist plot" or not.

Keep it coming, if you've got more!

Hi Qutb, thanks for the response. Here's a bit more. I haven't been able to find much about Agnelli's alleged conversion to Islam, and I'm not sure exactly what the images at blog.edoardo.ws/italiano.html prove. Here's one:

Now, I don't know whether the Agnelli situation is connected or not, but there does appear to be standing ties between Italian Fascists and Shiite fundamentalists. This is from November 2000:

Quote:

ITALY ACCUSES IRAN FINANCING RIGHT WING AND ANTI JEWS CAMPAIGN

BY AHMAD RA’FAT

ROME 8 Nov. But these guys are not shy. They have a couple of websites, and publish a journal.

their old website

their new website

I could only glean a bit with machine translations, but I spotted a few references to "Ammar" Luigi de Martino, as well as to jailed hardline neofascist Vincenzo Vinciguerra, who "spilled the beans" about "strategy of tension" manipulations in the 1980's (perhaps they consider him a martyr?) See: here.

Now, according to current Iranian conspiracy theory, the Haqqani School (also spelled Haghani or Haggani) are affiliated with a semi-mythical, semi-secret society called the Hojjatieh. As far as I can tell, the Hojjatieh Society is to the Haqqani theological school in Qom, more or less what Skull & Bones is to Yale - - i.e. an old boy's network. Their most promiment member at the moment is President Ahmadinejad's "spiritual advisor," Ayatollah Mohammad Taghi Mesbah-Yazdi (also "Mezbah").

See here, and also The website of Ayatollah Mesbah Yazdi.

Anyway, look who was on the cover of the July 2005 number of the journal Avanguardia, it's none other than the mad prophet himself, the President of Iran:

So it would seem the AN and the Haqqani circle are still on pretty good terms!

Ok, I guess that's all I have at the moment. I am aware that Avanguardia Nazionale and the Haqqani school are a couple of pretty heavy names to be dropping, especially in conjunction with each other, so I want to reiterate that I haven't seen anything directly linking Agnelli with any of this. Still, I think it's very suspicious (for example, the fracas discussed in that November 2000 article evidently occurred just a few days before Agnelli's death - a coincidence?) If this is a wild goose chase, it's a well-designed one.

Edited by: albion at: 2/8/06 5:18 pm

Ok, It looks like the wrangling to control FIAT involves the Elkann branch of the Agnelli family. Slated to be the new head of the company is John Elkann. Here's John with Prince Chucky:

Caption: "October 2004 - John Elkann, the grandson of the late Fiat owner Giovanni Agnelli, shows The Prince a red open top 1934 Fiat Ballila at the Fiat factory in Turin, Italy." (link)

Also, I can't resist being a bit lurid and sensationalistic (I don't give a damn about Fiat's "image")...John's brother Lapo was recently in a spot of trouble:

Quote:
Lapo Elkann (born 1978 ) is a New York-born Italian industrialist, marketing manager and heir to the automaker Fiat. Fascists and Islam

Postby ewastud » Wed Feb 08, 2006 8:30 pm

Another possibility perhaps is that certain non-muslim Italian fascists are infiltrating more radical fundamentalist Islamic groups to try to discredit them in the same fashion as Gladio and P2 during the 1970 and 1980's in Europe to discredit politically leftist groups. American fascist Michael Ledeen might know something about this as he has been closely associated with Italian fascists. Madsen has written about this on his website, but some months ago.

Yeah, I can't help but wonder what Ledeen's role is.

I find the Agnelli connection to the upcoming Olympics a bit disconcerting. Hopefully we're not looking at a replay of Munich 1972 (or worse), followed by a war.

It's all very opaque, but whatever it is...it's on.
