I saw it last night. The film isn't sadistic or misogynistic. It merely depicts ballet, which is inherently sadistic and misogynistic in what it demands of women, which in my opinion, was encapsulated by the brief scene where Barbara Hershey hands Portman her breakfast of half a grapefruit and a poached egg. I think Arronofsky(sp?) was trying to make a point about perfection in art and what it does to people, dehumanizing them, and how it ruins lives. That seemed perfectly obvious to me.

But in any case, one may as well say that all sports or physical disciplines that require exertions that tax the body are misanthropic.

I dated a dancer, briefly, in college. She had a very nice set of C-cup breasts, however, she said she planned to get surgery to reduce them in size because it would "help her lines." It's not enough to dance perfectly, the body must also conform to some imaginary, artificial aesthetic, created by some long-dead mastermind, that everyone slavishly and zombielike conforms to. That and she always wore socks to cover the bruises and cuts on her feet, not that I cared about that.

I thought Portman did a great job, and usually I find her wooden and bland.

That being said, it was hard to watch the film because I felt so bad for her character and all the suffering she had to endure.

Yep, and The Wrestler, wow, I've never seen such blatant man-hating. And Requiem for a Dream was terribly hard on people with drug problems, it made their lives look very unappealing.

:lol2: Trew. However, our lecturers are HAWT! Watch how she finishes the proof of the Snake Lemma!!

On a more serious note, I would just like to say I have NEVER seen such anti-ecological, Goddess hating, temporal fascism as was shown in 'The Fountain'. Who does this guy think he is? Darren Aronofsky?

I plan on seeing Black Swan soon(Im a huge fan of Aronofsky) but I do find something highly occultic about the symbolism of the black swan, which fits perfectly into what I see as the ritualistic
killing of Princess Diana. I disagree with quite a lot of what David Icke says, but I definitely agree with his views on the Diana crash.

I am curious as to what emotional and mental themes Black Swan explores, as I love a good psychological thriller(ie: most of David Lynch's works)

The Late Music

The full-length album, The Late Music, was born out of a small message hidden in the liner notes of The Olivia Tremor Control's Music from the Unrealized Film Script, Dusk at Cubist Castle, requesting that people submit recordings of dream descriptions to the band.
The album consisted of seven untitled pieces incorporating the submissions with different other ambient sounds and musical fragments.

Identifying a Black Swan event
Based on the author's criteria:

1.The event is a surprise (to the observer).
2.The event has a major impact.
3.After the fact, the event is rationalized by hindsight, as if it could have been expected (e.g., the relevant data were available but not accounted for).

Four Black Swans

Four Seasons

Four Corners

Eternity

A boy with a coin he found in the weeds
With bullets and pages of trade magazines
Close to a car that flipped on the turn
When God left the ground to circle the world

A girl with a bird she found in the snow
Then flew up her gown and that's how she knows
If God made her eyes for crying at birth
Then left the ground to circle the earth

This reviewer is clueless! I can't believe she gets paid to review films because apparently it hasn't occurred to her that depicting a thing does not imply approval or glorification of the thing. Jeebus. In fact, I thought the DISapproval was driven over the top with a sledgehammer. Still a good film, though.
