Do any of you guys have "devil's night" where you live?<br><br>It got to be such a big problem that we have had to have civillian police patrols and much more than above number of actual police presence and/or fire department presence. Now its not so bad, but some people still do some "wicked" stuff on a large scale, increase in all organized crimes, despite police presence. <br><br>"Devil's Night" is the night before Halloween, we have (use to be worse) large scale burning. Mostly its organized crime, but we have lots of people who just bomb things and catch them on fire. More robberies than usual, people wearing masks aren't noticed. People get shot or carjacked and there are no suspects. <br><br>(Devil's night in Detroit is the backdrop in the first Crow movie)<br><br>How bad is this sort of thing in other places?<br><br>(We've been making headway, but the more oganized elements are difficult to "dislodge".<br><br> <p></p><i></i>

Devils night in Detroit has been famous for decades. As far as I've gathered, it's not taken that far anywhere else. Not sure what developed detroit's tradition. Even today it gets wild there huh? <p></p><i></i>

....but it wasn't any big deal, nobody did anything beyond silly stuff like soaping windows and toiletpapering houses, and not everybody participated. I never heard of it after I came out to California, if it exists here nobody talks about it. I just assumed it was a Midwestern thing. <br><br>I was in Detroit once in the 1970s and it scared the shite out of me, and I was from Cleveland which wasn't exactly the Love Boat in that era. And I wasn't even all the way downtown, I was in River Rouge near an abandoned Ford plant. Robocop territory. I was there, of all things, to visit a Shiite mosque on a college field trip with my Islam class (I minored in Islamic history). The Imam took us out for a kick ass Middle Eastern dinner afterward. Nowadays that would probably be enough to get me on a no fly list. Going to the mosque I mean, not pigging out on kofta and kibbee. <p></p><i></i>

I would think the particularly evil variety, especially those who abused their powers, particularly in time of war, might get a visit from any disapproving spirits who reside there. I don't know why the ghost of Abe Lincoln doesn't show up and try to strangle W. in his sleep. <p></p><i></i>

It has already started.<br><br>We have a "curfew" tonight. (mandatory for all kids who aren't working, and for anyone "suspiciously" out, that is, don't go for "a drive" unless you have somewhere to be going)<br><br>Me, I'm going out, in another couple hours. People set of fireworks all night too, so you can't tell the gunshots and bombs from the smaller explosions.<br><br>It is going to be fun. Our funding for the patrols have been cut, as have all the police, even in the suburbs (which have crime too, just not as organized). They're expecting it to be worse, although the partial crackdown has made it far less damaging than it used to be.<br><br>Normally, we spend the night outside, in someone's yard, burning a bonfire. Yeah, you gotta stay away from the Rouge plant(s), and in general, the industrial area. Lots of DZ in this area, and you can easily slip into a bad place.<br><br>We're going downtown, a couple miles from there actually, to Mephisto's tonight. Although I'm considering swinging over to Windsor Onatario if the bridge looks like light traffic tonite. I can get real absinthe there(MILK), as opposed to the synthetic stuff at Meph's.<br><br>Let it burn. <p></p><i></i>

At the liquor board, almost anywhere in Canada, but they normally only sell the HILLS brand. There are bars with better options.<br><br>Go to MILK, in Windsor. Take the (East) Ambassador bridge, to the Border, do not stop in Downtown Detroit, except to get on the bridge or to go to Riverfront. There will be signs, once you enter Canada to the Casion Windsor. If you get lost, find it using the spotlights in the sky. <br><br>Park at the Casion FREE for 24 hours. Exchange money here, the Casino gives a better American-Canadian rate, but a worse Canadian-American rate. Go out the Ground floor entrance. Walk across the street, turn right, go two blocks. Go left 1/2 block. MILK. Across the street from THE AARDVARK (semi-well known bar) and next door to BERLIN (the only pace I know of in North America will real beer). <br> <br>They have several brands of Absinthe, and besides, have a synthetic variety (which you can get in Detroit). They'll make them for you, although, in the winter, I just have them put it straight in my coffee (no mixing, illegal, but they'll do it for you anyhow). <br><br>Down the street there is a large building with a six foot Hemp leaf on the side. You can buy drugs there.<br><br>IF you get bored, you will pass approximately 8 "massage parlours" catering to ALL tastes (and blocking the sidewalk), which could occupy you for the evening(the exchange rate on prostitutes is remarkable).<br><br>The war on Drugs is on a ceasefire in Detroit/Windsor.<br> <p></p><i></i>
