Well, to me, it's like not understanding why women like "The Bachelor," a show I consider to be extremely misogynistic.

Also, fashion magazines are EXTREMELY misogynistic, IMHO, yet women actually pay money for these things.

Madonna taught an entire generation of women it's cool to be a sex boy for boys. That somehow gives you "power".

WTF?

Girls now seem more determined than ever to give boys whatever they want.

Madonna and feminism? Re-heating something that's already been chewed on for 25 years?

I believe Madonna's a win for women and LGTB. I would have disagreed in 1988. But the big wheels and little gears ratchet back and forth, and Gaga gets born this way.

It was a mistake for this discussion to wander into framing of the issue within the reference of laws regarding discrimination. Historic bans upon the beating of wives merely demonstrates that husbands beat their wives with enough frequency and severity to require statutory intervention.

Besides, misogyny is not gauged by the governance of frequency of the beating of women, any more than misandry might be considered as reliably demonstrated through examining legislation regarding the beating of men. However, perhaps the very notion that such discussion might have bearing on the issue says some things about the topic. More likely, it is an interesting cul-de-sac where the real aspects of the problem might be successfully corraled away. This aspect of discussion of the issue of misogyny is a well-practiced tactic for moving the conversation to a more managable realm.

Well, as a teen I didn't see Madonna as saying that anyone should be a sex-toy. Instead, I saw her as saying that women shouldn't be ashamed of their sexual energy. She's always given the impression that she's the one who has been in control of her body and her business, which is the important lesson, I think.

So your interpretation of what Madonna 'taught' girls gives you a WTF moment?

Madonna changed things, but not by teaching girls to be sex toys. Lots of other performers will do that. Madonna's whole message was self-determination and assertiveness, IMHO. And that you can dance and have lots of good sex while charting your own course.

Sure. If you're a rock star. Try dressing in lingerie and fucking the hot younger intern at your corporate job and see how far it gets you.

Oh I think there is a relationship between the frequency & governance of the beating of women and misogyny.

that's a double standard and kinda not even relevant. No one showed up at worked dressed like Vince Neil but his little band was pretty popular at the same time as Madonna. Difference is, Vince is on the B-list and Madonna is still in complete control of her destiny.

he he.. well okay i must have seen that, but that's not the message I got from it. But there I go again, reading between lines, putting words in other people's mouths, etc etc. ;)

That's not what I said, though. There's no coorespondance between the prevalence of laws governing the beating of wives and the lack of misogyny in society. To discuss the issue in these terms is a trap.

You are absolutely correct on that point, sport, it's totally none of my business, and yet somehow, by virtue of having read this thread, I now have a mental image of you and your hefty lady tinkling for pleasure and camaraderie.

Please, please, please keep your private, personal pee pee games private between you and your lucky lady. Private, as in don't post it on a public discussion board where the subject is not you or your girlfriend.

You're not a moderator here neither is it your duty to inject/disrupt threads with your "humor".

82_28 wrote:For the record, I was attempting to inject humor into a thread being "fought" on both sides who are verging or were verging on going at each other's throats. If you look at the context of the time in which I posted that shit, I wouldn't have posted it now. I was trying to joke around, by saying, we can joke around about our genders with each other and not take it so hard. Honestly, who really cares about that urination tale? It had nothing to do with the thread, sure, but it was in context of "comic relief". And it wasn't "urination" and it wasn't trolling low wage workers for cryin' out loud.

If you people want me to leave here, then I will. This thread has absolutely nothing to do with me and I am not making it so. However, most everything I've done in this thread is try and keep things "punchy". I have failed. I guess somebody around here has to. :jumping:

I am sadly beginning to feel less and less welcome here, like so many before me. Ah well. We shall see, eh?

Here, let me get your fainting couch ready.

Also, we need a term analogous to Godwined to use when people bring Madonna into a discussion.
"O Oysters," said the Carpenter,
"You've had a pleasant run!
Shall we be trotting home again?'
But answer came there none--
And this was scarcely odd, because
They'd eaten every one.
