Jerry Sandusky, the longtime defensive coordinator for the Penn State Nittany Lions charged with sexually abusing young boys over a 15-year period, including four years when Sandusky still was a member of the staff, was running an overnight football camp for kids on Penn State campuses as recently as last year, according to Deadspin.
Sandusky ran the camp, called Sandusky's Football Camp, for nearly a decade, but by summer 2010, the camp stopped running because a grand jury had already begun its investigation into the sexual allegations.
Rickard, the police detective investigating Gricar's disappearance, said Gricar's refusal to prosecute Paxson dovetails with what he knows of the prosecutor.
"Ray was a hard-charger. If there was something there, I'm convinced he would have gone after that," he said, referring to the 1998 case and any other case Gricar refused to prosecute.
Rickard has gone through Gricar's personal effects, his desk drawers, his note-filled day planner and found nothing to suggest Gricar was still involved with—or otherwise concerned about—the Sandusky case by the time he disappeared.
"I can say that prior to Ray's disappearance, there was absolutely nothing going on with Ray Gricar and Jerry Sandusky," Rickard said.
"To me it's just another sign of how much is covered up within Happy Valley."
Crittenden also thinks there is a lot more to the Sandusky story, which also features former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, an assistant coach, and three former top Penn State officials.
"I think that this is a cover up of epic proportions," Crittenden said.
He says reporters always had trouble digging up sensitive information at Penn State, and he believes there's much more to this story.

Some good responses in the comments, pointing out that Sandusky is a married man and a father. "Until you can show that he can sleep with adult men, you heterosexuals own him because at least we know he can sleep with women."
Sandusky is married and has six adopted children. He also took in foster children.
