Future Riot Shields Will Suffocate Protestors with Low Frequency Speakers

By Andrew Liszewski, Dec 14, 2011 12:40 PM

...

Crowd control tools like the LRAD Sound Cannon emit bursts of loud and annoying sounds that can induce headaches and nausea. But Raytheon's non-lethal pressure shield creates a pulsed pressure wave that resonates the upper respiratory tract of a human, hindering breathing and eventually incapacitating the target. The patent points out that the sound waves being generated are actually not that powerful, so while protestors might collapse from a lack of oxygen reaching their brains, their eardrums won't be damaged in the process. Phew!

And like Roman soldiers joining their shields to form a large impenetrable wall, these new riot shields can actually be networked together to form a larger acoustical horn, vastly improving their range, power, and effectiveness. There's no word on what the long-term medical implications might be if you find yourself on the wrong side of one of these shields. But I imagine the unpleasant experience is not unlike being force choked from afar by Darth Vader.

Sweet.

My niece and nephew's new (brother got a divorce) dad is an engineer at an up and coming firm that designs high tech ankle bracelets that are all "enabled" with all that bullshit we always hear about about how to track you. My dad goes over to visit them from time to time and I recently told my dad to tell him "Fuck you. Tell him that *82_28* wants me to tell you FUCK YOU and your part in the destruction of all that is human. Tell him, I hear you're a nice guy, but FUCK YOU."

My dad just gave me his famous understanding laugh. I knew he would never say anything of the sort.

Shit like this is never going to end, is it? Just sad.

Wait, Raytheon obviously made a mistake in that graphic. They didn't show the weapon being used on rag-headed muslim terrorist wannabes, but rather on average-looking american style white folks.

What an embarrassing mistake for them. I'm sure they'll fix that soon.

I think this story is a case of exploiting real science as future-conjecture-psyops.

For about 20 years the state-of-the-art music sound system speaker technology has used line-array technology.
This utilizes the very close juxtaposition of speakers carrying the same bandwith of sound frequencies to achieve an extraordinary
coupling effect of increased energy efficiency which also disperses the energy much more uniformly.
(See "V-DOSC speaker systems" which pioneered the tech. after the Grateful Dead did it with their "wall of sound' circa 1976.)

If this was actually embedded in riot cops' shields, it could be very effective.

BUT. This is still a [lead]-pipe-dream for crowd control planners.. Not Of today by a long shot..

V-DOSC® has revolutionized the loudspeaker industry with its outstanding sonic results for large format live sound reinforcement applications. L-ACOUSTICS® V-DOSC® is the first full frequency line source array based on the principles of Wavefront Sculpture Technology®. V-DOSC® possesses an exceptional level of rider-friendliness for touring and installation projects.
At the heart of V-DOSC® is the internationally-patented DOSC® waveguide which fulfills WST® criteria at high frequencies, allowing elements to couple coherently and create a single, continuous, isophasic sound source. As a result, V-DOSC® is a full-spectrum coherent system, whereas conventional horn and driver assemblies suffer interference throughout most of their operating bandwidth.

By no damn coincidence, the Grateful Dead's favorite sound company, Meyer Sound Labs in Berkeley California....also provided the tech for the
crowd-dispersing 'sound cannon.'

It was originally meant to project high frequencies a long distance for large concert venues.
But it was weaponized against the very people that Meyer Sound Labs has tried to support for ages.

Wow.

Thank you for the audio related stuff - I have been surprised there has not been more "non-lethal" acoustic weaponry, as it seems to go back decades...

I've mentioned it before, but this is a good place to mention it again.

My father, who spent most of his life helping design and bring to fruition many top secret military weapon systems, most of which he was completely mum about to us, one day looked up from his work and said to me "hey, did you know that a human being and a pig will explode at the same sound frequency?". I asked how he knew that, and he said they were doing tests for some of their projects. Somehow the conversation was about animals that were the most like humans, and how sometimes it wasn't the animals you would expect.

This was probably 25 years ago. Acoustic weapons are in the arsenal, and they're not necessarily "non-lethal".

Trouble is, how do civilians fight that shit??

I read a book about some sort of Peace Corp or UN types once, they were young and getting paid to travel to far off lands to, for example, observe elections in Cambodia. Cushy gig. One of the things they did was go to Haiti for the UN, and they got caught in a crowd bombarded by US ultrasonic weapons. This would have been early 90s.

Well, we could bring back Boom Boxes... or we could build a huge mouth with a flapping tongue that gave a very loud Bronx Cheer.

Ever wonder why civilians are prohibited from owning bullet-proof vests?

http://rotarywoofer.com/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotary_woofer

"The Rotary Woofer is a subwoofer-style loudspeaker which reproduces very low frequency content by using a conventional speaker voice coil's motion to change the pitch of a set of fan blades rotating at a constant speed. The pitch of the fan blades is controlled by the audio signal presented to the voice coil, and is able to swing both positive and negative, with respect to a zero pitch spinning blade position. Since the audio amplifier only changes the pitch of the blades, it takes much less power, per dB of generated acoustic sound level, to drive a rotary woofer than to power a conventional subwoofer, which uses a moving electromagnet (voice coil) placed within the field of a stationary permanent magnet to drive a cone which then displaces air. Rotary woofers excel at producing sounds below 20 Hz, below the normal hearing range; when installed in the wall of a sealed room, they can produce audio frequencies down to zero Hz, a static pressure differential, by basically just compressing the air in the sealed room."

So this can produce frequencies that can affect the human body and internal organs, as well.
There is some evidence that very low frequencies might affect the heart, for example, or even cause arrhythmia or a heart attack. Could not find a decent source for this right now, if anyone recalls a good one please do post.
