Looks like another battle in an ongoing war between the settlers and the original inhabitants of the area. Sacred symbol to some, total nuisance to others.
Here's a tiny bit of background, plus a prior roo massacre.

from 2002 - snippet about Aborigine rights to roo and emu symbols. Their Victorian lawyer, Len Lindon, likened the use of the kangaroo and emu on the coat of arms to putting Jesus Christ on a footy jumper.
...
Wadjularbinna Nulyarimma, an elder of the Gulf of Carpentaria's Gungalidda people, said abuse of sacred symbols amounted to religious persecution. "The kangaroo and emu are connected to the Aboriginal people and the land is the foundation," Ms Nulyarimma said. "We have a law and religion that is interconnected and these animals are part of us through a skin grouping, or what the anthropologists call the kinship system."

Mon, 2 Aug 2004
Aboriginal Tent Embassy Outraged with Kangaroo Massacre
The Aboriginal Tent Embassy demands for an immediate stop to the massacre of aboriginal animals at Googong Dam in the A.C.T. Environment ACT described the shooting of 800-1000 eastern grey kangaroos at Googong Dam as ¡®operation success¡¯. The Aboriginal Tent Embassy is vocalizing the uproar from the Aboriginal community, which has been traumatized by the recent massacre of the kangaroos. "They same way they killed our old people, dig a big hole and put all their bodies in it, we still feel their spirits. Its too much," said Lorna Laurie, resident of the Aboriginal Tent Embassy.
...
"We can¡¯t see the reason for why this would need to happen. The reason being given is that there is not enough food or water for the kangaroos, but we know it¡¯s for the expansion of development, farming and industry to perpetuate this economic system. Indigenous people from all over the world are facing genocide from this same system," stated Gungalidda elder Aunty Wadjurlabinna.
...
Under section 116 of the Constitution, the Commonwealth cannot use its powers to prohibit freedom of religion. "This land has its own law, this other law is foreign it belongs to a foreign system, not our system, people had better come to learn, respect and understand our system, the kinship system. We are sovereign people of this land and our law is sovereign in this land. To continue to violate these ancient laws of Aboriginal culture, to disregard Aboriginal natural and spiritual law, while contradicting the constitution, is further perpetuating genocide against indigenous people" continued Aunty Wadjurlabinna.
...

It is also rumored by several sources that the beloved TV "Skippy" (think roo version of 'Flipper') was cancelled so that the public would not sympathize with the critters.

The golf course

Postby Rigorous Intuition » Wed Aug 10, 2005 9:54 am

Reading they were encroaching upon a golf course is very suggestive of settler rage. Though leaving the carcasses, and taking the heads - what's that about?

I very well remember Skippy, the Bush Kangaroo!

Favourite Australian export these days is Killer Instinct. Conclusion: satanic ritual

Postby ZeroHaven » Wed Aug 10, 2005 3:01 pm

Quote:
Though leaving the carcasses, and taking the heads - what's that about?

I checked as best as I could, and could not find any reference to Aboriginal practices that would allow for such utter waste of the bodies. As quoted previously, they consider the kangaroo as sacred. Their practices are reminiscent of the Native Americans in using the entire animal as much as possible.

With the bodies being burnt, and the heads completely gone, the only direction I can think in is that this is in fact some sort of religious statement. I toyed with the idea that it may have been intended as a direct insult to the Aborigines, knowing their beliefs, but if that were so then the corpses should have ended up on their lawns - not the lawns of the perceived enemy.

Decapitated animals are usually a sign of sacrifice. In Santeria the bodies are simply discarded without any mutilation. The burning is most common in modern satanic rituals (and ancient christian ones). The heads are kept for many reasons, including the eating of the brain to acquire some kind of power.

If the killing of these animals were simply for the sake of removing vermin, or outraging the Aborigines, or even for outraging a sympathetic public, the heads should be lying around somewhere.

The statement "that the animals may have been shot first in the head" leads me to believe that there wasn't a lot of blood around the bodies and the officials were speculating on why. The missing blood is another indication of satanic practice, since preparation for a Kosher meal is out of the question.

The fact that the bodies were found on a golf course doesn't stand out greatly when compared to the many cases of other headless animal corpses repeatedly being found in public, such as this one.

After reviewing the possibilities I say that taking the heads was about practicing some sort of satanic ritual and disposing of unwanted byproducts. After all, there are allegedly people in Australia heavily involved in satanism and pedophilia.

The only other idea I had involved someone stuffing and selling the heads as trophies...

Thanks ZeroHaven, you make excellent points. Especially this:

The statement "that the animals may have been shot first in the head" leads me to believe that there wasn't a lot of blood around the bodies and the officials were speculating on why.

Also, that the animal is held as sacred by Australia's traditional people makes it a natural sacrifice for a profane rite.

kangaroos

Postby smiths » Wed Aug 10, 2005 10:34 pm

there is no way that aborigines would decapitate and dump kangaroos,
and kangaroos dont 'encroach' on golf courses in australia, they sleep in the day and are totally out of sight, they come out late in the afternoon as the golfers finish their rounds,
the vast majority of golfers and australians love them,
and i am amazed by these stories

yes, they are sometimes culled when the numbers get tto big and encroach on farmers but that is done officially by the government and most dont like it, and it certainly is not a massacre like the canadian seal culls

intersetingly i read this the other day,

"If the West Australian Department of Environment was hoping the nearly 1,000 people working at the Telfer gold-copper mine would be in favour of culling the local dingo population, they’ll have to rethink it.
A survey on culling as an option to controlling the native dog was prompted after dingoes had been seen walking in the village area.
The survey conducted by the department showed that most people in the wider Telfer community were against culling and instead preferred to have the Telfer dingoes protected."

and bear in mind it wasnt that long ago that a dingo killed a kid on stradbroke island
