I used to have fantastic and vivid dreams of aliens on a routine basis. A lot. Mostly good. Now I wonder if I should be worried.

I asked Nordic if he remembered anything about the incident in the woods or if he ever spoke to his parents about it.

Shortly after the invasion of Iraq I had a number of war dreams, and one was rather otherworldly. One common element in these war dreams was far-off bombings happening on the horizon at night or in the early-morning hours (in America), but one, in which I was hiding out at my grandparents' house, involved extraterrestrial aircraft and weaponry.

Has anyone here seen Cowboys and Aliens?

I watched it recently and it struck me as a complete inversion of the US invasion/occupation of Iraq/Afghanistan, with the aliens as Americans and gold standing in for oil: There are terrifying air attacks, renditions, mind-control, torture, sectarian reconciliation and even ends with a sacrelized suicide bomber in what looked like a nursery!

It seemed to me as much an unconscious mis-identification, as purposefully propagandistic reversal, though I could be wrong about that. But I did find it Really Weird. The collective fantasy/projection is that it's happening to Us, not Them.

Which make sense in light of this thread. If it did/is happening to Us? Been engineered for it?

I dunno, maybe this will triggering .... ?

One of the better movies of last year. I mean, it's no Fast Five, but still.

I dunno, I see it more in the general sci-fi tradition. Independence day, behind the bigger FX budget, had the same story, aliens here to steal our resources. Or, even more so the BBC series from the 90s, "Invasion Earth", which also has aliens, known as NDs, who have done in a peaceful advanced space civilisation before moving on to humans, and which also has the kidnap of humans into the ND's nth dimensional realm, abd their torture and mind control through implantation and genetic engineering. It's got Fred Ward and the girl from Shameless in it. The good aliens even look a bit greyish.

Which make sense in light of this thread. If it did/is happening to Us? Been engineered for it?

Thanks Dr.

And Morgan, I get your point (not the one about C&A being a great film) but it still seems to me that C&A is extraordinarily and unusually explicit.

FWIW Cowboys and Aliens was in development for about 20 years. So it's not like they came up with it in reaction to the recent Afghanistan and Iraq invasions.

It could have been, I suppose, a reaction to the first gulf war in 1990.

But I found out about it in about 1992 or so, and it may have been in development even before that.

I think they just liked the title and figured something out to go along with that.

Still, like I wrote previously, and in my blog post, it sure seems to share a point of view, doesn't it?

That movie was so bad I can barely remember it (always the hallmark of quality cinema), so it probably wasn't very effective psyops if that was its intention.

Or maybe it was very effective psyops and your conscious memory is not required.

You're right. Films like Irreversible, which I couldn't shake for weeks, only made me more of a humanist.

I couldn't watch Irreversible.

Hmm, sorry Nordic to use your comment to make this point; I know you'll hate it. But maybe, just may this is partially how HMW's keyword hijacking theory could work. As in, there must be what? tens of thousands of scripts on file? Scripts on every conceivable subject. In development limbo until it needs to be deployed for psyops. Not that the writers themselves are complicit, necessarily, just that the execs have access to all this pre-written MATERIAL that can be plucked from the files, tweaked just so and fast tracked onto the screen just in time to coincide with a needed distraction for covert actions/information releases etc etc that are planned well in advance.

Just a theory.

I don't rule out that sometimes entertainment is produced for propaganda purposes. That much is clear. Especially in television. Its got a much quicker turnaround and reaches a larger and more captive audience.

But Hugh's theories are simply not based in reality.

And weren't the aliens in cowboys and aliens the bad guys? If they're analogous to the Americans in afghanistan, what's the point? I know -- its some of that Librul propaganda we're always hearing about?

Yeah, it's probably an indication of how unpopular the "wars" are.

The point is that you can't identify with the aliens - they are way too monstrous and the only time in the film any of them is represented as having recognizable thoughts or feelings is the Mengele alien who was injured by the Cowboy and in case we don't get it, his intention of revenge is spelled out by the nature of his injury - an "eye for an eye."

So, you don't have a choice but to identify with the cowboys (and indians lol) so what get's internalized is "IT'S HAPPENING TO US!!"

That activates limbic region of the brain and the the impulse to reciprocate, and that triggers the rationalization and justification for DOING it.

See?
