Just How Certain ARE You?

"Just how certain are you about what you believe?"

I know damn well what's going on, and I'm certain about what I believe.

I've done the research. So... from here on out, my beliefs may change a little, but probably not that much.

I've got some good information and a few intelligent ideas — but nothing is really certain.

Yes.

Furthermore, all the evidence available to us suggests it was in a hat at the time.

Mindfulness and acid... at least some weed.

I'm surprised at all the uncertainty here. I wish we'd all be a bit more certain, honestly. I think we're victims of decades of postmodernist conditioning that has us believing "There is no truth," etc. Who knows who killed JFK?- maybe Castro hired the mob and Oswald, too. Bullshit.

I'd say I know what I know, and I'm perfectly confident about it at this point. I know a lot of politics, though there are certainly areas that I haven't researched fully. I know very little about, say, UFO's, but I can read and learn from other folks here. Let's give ourselves a bit more credit. There's a lot of expertise just on this board.

I think wisdom has a lot to do with knowing what you know and what don't know. And changing your opinion or viewpoint is usually a sign of emotional maturity. But let's not get caught in postmodern psychobabble; the world's reality is too dire for that crap.

Yeah, you're right there, I think. Too much uncertainty means no action, or at least it can be used as an excuse for no action, which is bad. We might not know who killed Kennedy but we know what was behind it and that's all that really matters. There are many events like this where we might not know the principle actors by name but we know the powers and the system which put them in place, and that's enough.

Well, I know most of the world's population is getting screwed (not in the fun way). Repeatedly and endlessly.

I also know our environment is getting raped. Repeatedly and endlessly, as a result of above. The right people are getting rich doing it too.

I know that pop music sucks, and what passes for modern country music sucks even worse (guess there ain't a real distinction between pop & country, now that I type this).

I know I'm getting crabbier and more cynical as I age. Wish that wasn't happening--I should be mellowing instead.

Bait.

Certainty is The Enemy of the State of doubt, division, diversion.
So Certainty has been framed as a symptom of 'extremism' or 'paranoid conspiracy theorists.'

I could quote the Army psops manual on this tactic but moving on.

I go back and forth between believing nothing and believing just about everything. Lately I'm in a "nothing" phase.
