Certainly wasn't much of it, was there...but on the day I took the first pic (January something or other), the lake was frozen over and we were getting some very ethereal-looking snow squalls.

That's lake Monona, by the way...

We came fairly close to setting some record freeze dates.

I am determined to go back here and get a shot of this with a real camera. Love the symmetry and the color. LA has a lot of these little bungalow complexes.

This is actually a spectacularly-created piece of art -- it's chiselled into the old cement which had covered a brick wall. The cement was painted white, so depending on how far down they chiselled they either got white, grey, or the dark brick. Then there was some paint added, but just a wash of drippy medium brown. This is on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, which has turned into one of the hippest neighborhoods anywhere. Expensive-hip.

It's a great picture, and The Dude from The Big Lebowski lived in one of those bungalows, or in an area just like that. Made me want to live in one as well.

Been out roaming around Skyrim recently:

*That's not really my house, btw, or the interior of the cave in the mountain pics. It's Gilmerton Cove, located under a bookies' shop near Edinburgh. Very strange place. Will do a thread on it soon, hopefully.

Holy crap, Ahab, that landscape is painfully beautiful. I long to be there. I feel like all my recent health problems would just vanish if I could just be there.
And that .... cave-like place? Wow, yes please do a thread on that!

Great pics of Glen Coe Ahab'sOL.......

I've been on top of a few of those peaks in my days.....

The sight of photos like yours has made me want to post some of my own pics.....

Not from my locale (I'll post these in due course), but from a memorable trip to the Orkneys:

Siddhartha Gautama showed up Sunday to celebrate his birthday at the Vietnamese Buddhist temple across the street from my house. He turned out to be a pretty nice guy, always cutting up and dancing around.

I just wanted to point out that the binoculars sitting in front of the Geary building are a sculpture by Claes Oldenburg.

I want to live in that little house at the bottom right.

I wish I could spend more time there myself - I don't get outdoors anywhere near enough, and although the Glen Coe area is technically in my locale, it's a good forty-fifty miles away from where I'm living now. Just make sure you move to the Highlands so you can avoid the "Glasgow Effect": http://news.stv.tv/scotland/west-centra ... rt-attack/

Hope you feel better soon though. Been feeling like shite myself lately. Think it's from quitting drink... well, mostly quitting it. Maybe not quitting it quite enough.

'Tis done! viewtopic.php?f=8&t=34506

Byrne, Orkney looks incredible, I need to get up there! Never actually been to any of the isles except Mull, which is really more quaint and picturesque than rugged and majestic (I saw Malcolm Rifkind there, but failed to give him any verbal abuse - a missed opportunity that I regret to this day. I was only about eleven, but I knew who he was, and should've known enough to seize my chance. He was head of the Anti-Scottish Office at the time, I think, and was soon to become Defence Secretary).

Pictures of Orkney don't show how strong the wind is up there though!

How come I don't have a Vietnamese Buddhist temple opposite my house? It looks fun. I've never seen a Supreme Buddha in real life either, which is simply unfair.

Hehe, a most excellent link, especially Love Valley in Turkey. I'm sure those are ancient space rockets though, once used by ancient astronauts, rather than just a big bunch of erect stone phalloi.

Interesting, I had no idea! I wonder how much sleep Oldenburg has lost over that one. :)
