Personally, I believe the pawn on the square that is Southern Lebanon is meant to fall before moving on the knight in Iran, and Hezbollah does not seem inclined to be destroyed in time to keep this schedule. This sort of quasi-religious scaremongering always finds a receptive audience in the United States, especially among Christians of the jihadist persuasion. At 90 years old, Professor Lewis may have completely lost his marbles, but he is still feted by the White House (vice-president Dick Cheney was guest of honour at his birthday party in April), and the Wall Street Journal describes him as "a sage". He is credited with coining the phrase "clash of civilisations" back in 1990 and now seems intent on making it a reality. My thought was that by the time Bernard Lewis posted his article, August 22nd already looked pretty impractical. I'd go so far as to say that it may have at one time been a target date for raising the curtain on the next act of the Middle East war. But, I have trouble believing that the preceeding weeks were the hoped for lead in. My own theory has always been that the PTB is an extremely factionalized beast, little beasties really that turn on each other at any given opportunity. And, while they may have some competent henchmen, they are too out of touch with reality and too distracted by ...ahem... esoteric pursuits to master any profound strategy. What's more, their henchmen are largely led by lies and greed, and are liable to turn on them as well once they realize the ultimate intentions (or clandestine behavior) of those they serve. That they stay in power at all is only due to the fact that those in the best position to bring them to justice have a vested interested in maintaining the game. This also works against the PTB when they try to make the final moves that bring the game to an end. Maybe that's true for many members of the PTB them as well. Perhaps they still have some cards to play. But, my overall feeling is that everything, from Peak Oil to attempted false flag terrorist attacks to the war in the Middle East, is just not going according to plan. I'm certainly seeing less of the flaunts of arcane symbols that seemed so prevelent in '04 and '05. How can it take three months to implement safety procedures, which have not even started. GSP had terminated the contract with the company on account of breach of contractual conditions namely failure to open an acceptable L/C as security and non-payment of invoices for several months currently exceeding US$8 million. The BBC reported that Halliburton, which took in $30-$40 million from Iranian operations in 2003, "was winding down its work due to a poor business environment." But the controversy over a key nuclear negotiator signing up big oil contracts with a U.S. oil giant did not die down in Iran. Hard-line members of Iran’s parliament demanded to question Nasseri over his oil deals and an influential Tehran daily reported that the Ministry of Oil was handing over multi-million-dollar contracts to Oriental Oil Kish while much of the company’s operations exist only on paper. “This company has won contracts worth more than 500 million dollars from the Oil Ministry in the past three years, while it is not even registered in Iran”, the daily Kayhan wrote in an editorial on January 20, 2005. Evidence shows that Oriental Oil Kish was set up by entrepreneurs and officials close to ex-President Ali-Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani. Nasseri himself is a long-time protégé of Rafsanjani. The ministry said it had asked Russia's Foreign Ministry to request information from authorities in Guinea and to demand the ship's release. Earlier Russian news agencies quoted a ministry spokesman as saying the ship was in Sierra Leone.
