Mystery of Prince Rupert’s Drop

Postby Allegro » Sat Jun 01, 2013 12:50 pm

Really, a fun watch :). On Edit: It’s a fun watch, conditionally.

Mr. Sandlin called his assistant in the video a pussy, a derogatory term in some circles, but not in others. Too many men are trained to tease and bully each other as acceptable forms of communication. They think they’re getting along with each other by shaming. In this instance, though, watch the behavior and response of the two men in the video just after the word pussy is brought into the conversation. It appears to me the typical manly behavior by Mr. Sandlin tells the story when the assistant feels a bit shamed—on camera.

I'm glad they survived the storm, but I'm surprised dramatic passenger-seat guy wasn't murdered by his team-mates. Maybe you should find another job, braveheart. Turn the sound down before 1:22 when he really starts squealing.

Without Warning | Brad Goldpaint

^ Without Warning | Brad Goldpaint
Music composer, Ben Beiny | “The Right Moment”

From VIMEO NOTES. I drove to Crater Lake National Park on the night of May 31, 2013 to photograph the Milky Way rising above the rim. I’ve waited months for the roads to open and spring storms to pass, so I could spend a solitude night with the stars. Near 11pm, I was staring upward towards a clear night sky when suddenly, without warning, an unmistakable faint glow of the aurora borealis began erupting in front of me. I quickly packed up my gear, hiked down to my truck, and sped to a north facing location. With adrenaline pumping, I raced to the edge of the caldera, set up a time-lapse sequence, and watched the northern lights dance until sunrise. The moon rose around 2am and blanketed the surrounding landscape with a faint glow, adding depth and texture to the shot. The last image in the sequence above shows the route of the International Space Station (ISS) which flew over at 2:35am.

Plan of the City

Postby Allegro » Thu Jun 06, 2013 2:26 am

I had forgotten about this production, which was posted June, 2011, and it’s repeated in General Discussion for all to see, hear and enjoy! I love the music. Highlight and links are mine.

Plan of the City | Joshua Frankel, director

^ Uploaded two years ago; credits on the vimeo page.
From VIMEO NOTES. A new film combing animation with live action conceived and directed by Joshua Frankel, about the architecture of New York City blasting off into outer space and resettling on Mars. The film’s visuals are an animated collage combining live action footage, animated elements, illustrations and treated photographs, including photos taken by the Mars rovers Spirit and Opportunity made available to the public domain by the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Plan of the City was created in collaboration with composer Judd Greenstein and NOW Ensemble, an acclaimed “indie classical” chamber ensemble; the ensemble, including Greenstein, feature prominently in the film as live actors set inside the animated framework.

The audio of the film consists solely of Greenstein’s Change, performed by NOW Ensemble; Change and Plan of the City were created in parallel, each expressing its own artistic intention while simultaneously serving its “sibling”.

The film was presented with the music performed live, timed to the film, at Le Poisson Rouge in New York City in May, 2011. It also exists as its own stand-alone entity, utilizing NOW Ensemble’s recent studio recording of Change out on New Amsterdam Records.

    Resume.

No Béarla follows native Irish language speaker, Manchán Magan around Ireland where he attempts to use the nation's official first language to get by, without any English. The series documents the highs and lows of the adventure.
