This was really piss-poor research by Alex Constantine, which surprised me.Let's see... Bill Clinton and Bush 41 are familiar with NLP as they both worked with Tony Robbins. The CIA were eating up NLP from the 1980s. I thought it would be *extremely* unlikely that Barack Obama had not been trained in it for platform work (ie giving presentations, especially to large large groups) .
During the Obama - McCain American election, I was very aware of a difference between the candidates and their last events - McCain was not very congruent and there was a much greater emphsis on creating a Nuremberg Rally type of spectacle kind without the Hitler
With Obama, HE was the show.
Some of the techniques that Obama uses are
a Synchronising message visual and auditory channels, eg so each phrase has a downward right hand gesture linked to it.
b Visually anchoring different audiences by looking to the left or right depending which one his is talking about
c Embedded commands, where there is a slight decrease in tonality at the end of a sentance which in English translates much more into an imperative.
d Word stretching, which can make sommmme people
feeeel gooood nowwwwThat was from unpacking just a couple of minutes of campaign speech.
The techniques that Obama used were straight from Ericksonian conversational hypnosis which predates NLP by decades.
Alex C is also getting his research from Wiki - and around NLP, Wiki is a very poor source - it tends to be in subjects that reductionists dont like.
NLP is the study of subjective experience, with a specific focus on the modelling of human excellence in order to create a pattern that is available for others.
What are the things which a person who bakes a chocolate fondant cake to a level of artistry doing internally and externally that are different from just an OK one?
Another example would be Neil Peart from Rush learning to drum again from scratch - his mentor helped create a new pattern of movement, which it wasnt just the notes that were hit, it was also the movement of the hands and arms when they were not hitting.
It certainly was not designed from the outset as a therapeautic approach - it's roots are in Noam Chomsky's Transformational Linguistics. John Grinder's PhD was in this field and Bateson and General Semantics.
Alex implies that a paper has to come from a mainstream source in order to have validity. As the American Psychology Association have been intimately involved in using that field for the furtherence of The Art of Torture in Guantanamo, that is pause for thought.
NLP is not 'scientific' - anymore than engaging in an activity like playing bass is scientific and can be debunked. It is a way of finding out about the world and incredibly useful in problem solving. You wouldnt know that from Wiki because there has been an edit war with - surprise surprise the Randite reductionists. What do you do when the creator of NLP says "NLP is NOT and never has been a scientific theory" but Wiki says -"the creator of NLP isnt a secondary source - however Skeptics Dictionary is, so we will go with that..." MmmmmmKaaaaaay. As someone observed "Calling NLP a pseudo-science is like calling an apple a pseudo-orange"
The article misses the point, which is that BOTH candidates used covert persuasion techniques during their campaigns, although in different styles.
What on Earth does Alex C think people who train other people to give great presentations actually do?
BTW in presentation terms, David Icke at Wembley on youtube has the most appalling platform skills.
Oh, and who ARE these shadowy people behind Icke and Jones pushing them to be more racist?
You didnt say...
How far will they go? We'll see is my guess
How far will they go?
*How far implies it is only a matter of degree - you just assumes it will happen with no evidence
*How far will WHO go? - Who is left unspecified - just 'they'
We'll see is my guess
* How is 'we'll see' a guess?
* Who is the 'we'll' you are referring to?

We'll see I guess. My sense is that having a broader appeal is valuable to them in a dollars and sense kind of way, as well as in their desire to have greater numbers behind them... http://aconstantineblacklist.blogspot.c ... -from.htmlMore Conspiracy Moonshine from Neo-Nazi David Icke and Alex JonesAlex Jones' Infowars.com claims Obama uses 'mind control'http://www.examiner.comApril 12, 2009If you have ever watched President Obama give a speech on television or in person, be advised: Infowars.com, the website of conspiracist talk show host Alex Jones, says you were probably hypnotized against your will.
According to an article on the website from writer David Icke entitled "Barack Obama: The Naked Emperor," Obama uses a technique called neuro-linguistic programming, or NLP, which Icke says is a "mass mind-control technique" to "implant beliefs and perceptions into the mind of the viewer."
NLP was created in the 1970s as a form of alternative therapy by Richard Bandler and linguist John Grinder, who claimed that it would help people overcome their phobias, depression and other psychological disorders, according to Wikipedia.
Icke claims in his Infowars article that he, Icke, studied military mind-control techniques in the 1990s (establishing his "expertise"), before stating that Obama's rhetorical and campaign tools are part of the "most blatant mass-mind control operation you could wish to see."
Icke points to an unsigned paper as evidence of this, which appears to come from an organization called the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons -- a very offical sounding group with obvious connotations of clinical legitimacy.
But this is an extremely deceptive claim, coming from a group that is not recognized by mainstream physicians and has made thoroughly debunked claims about immigrants spreading leprosy and asserts false connections between breast cancer and oral contraceptives. AAPS is also a contributor to right-leaning causes, according to the Center for Media and Democracy's SourceWatch.
Furthermore, according to Wikipedia, NLP is a "pseudoscience" that is not supported by scientific evidence. Its founders additionally made "such extreme and changeable claims that researchers began to question the wisdom of researching the area further."
Despite these facts, which point to NLP as a quack science and not a scientifically accepted technique, Icke insists that Obama has used NLP to further his agenda in the most devious way -- by brainwashing Americans.
After briefly explaining NLP, Icke goes on: "All of which brings me to the parallels with Nazi Germany, fascist Italy and similar regimes throughout history."
That is the leap of logic of a conspiracist. Obama must be like Hitler because he is using (phony) mind control techniques, like Hitler did.
You see, Icke's article is actually not based on scientific fact, as he claims, nor is his "expertise" as one who studied miltary brainwashing techniques and worked in broadcast media relevant at all. It is presented this way so as to make him seem like an authority, to give weight to his fact-free argument.
The point of the article is to instill fear of Obama as somehow comparable to Hitler and the worst dictators of modern history, those who were known to use mass propaganda towards evil ends.
This kind of "factual" assertion -- backed up by official-seeming documents from official-sounding groups -- is cited by defenders of Jones as proof of his legitimacy. That lends credence to Jones' assertions that Obama is seeking to enslave Americans to usher in a New World Order.
But these are fake facts dressed up to llok like real ones. It is a technique used by a true deceiver to cover their tracks.
Finally, Infowars.com runs an advertisement on the page with the DLP article for a product called Alpha Mind Control, which the ad claims allows those who get the product to "use the elite's mind control tricks to your advantage."
Watch out what kinds of crackpot products you buy online.
