NEPALGUNJ, Sept 21 - In what seems to be a bizarre case that has baffled medical practitioners, a young girl in the district of Kailai, far western Nepal, has been emitting transparent solid objects, purported to be glass pieces, from her forehead

....

“The CT scan report indicates that she has some kind of problem in her forehead skin," said Dr M Kiduwai who is involved in the research, "The pieces do not seem to be coming out from the bone. But we can give more details only after further investigation." Dr. Keduwai also informed that the girl would be put under medical observation for the next three days "to study the process of formation and emission of the glass pieces." Professors SM Mishra, SK Gupta, Dr CP Pandey and Dr Anir Shrestha of Kohalpur Medical College are involved in the research.

Rather severely editted for length. There's a lot more information at the site.

I wonder, has she ever had an accident involving glass? My mother had a car accident when I was a baby, 41 years ago, in which her head went through the windshield. To this day, she periodically pulls small bits of glass from her forehead.

Small price to pay for her life, I guess.

I also went through a windshield over 20 years ago, and continue to pick pieces of glass out of my scalp.

Something similar is now reported from Malaysia. A girl who emits glassy or crystalline beads from under her toenail:

MALACCA: Two doctors and two state assemblymen visited a 23-year-old woman who is said to be producing colourful crystal-like beads from her big toenail at her home in Durian Tunggal near here yesterday.

After deputy health director Dr Ghazali Othman examined Siti Suhana Saadon’s toe, Dr Irmi Zarina Ismail, a family medicine specialist from a Durian Tunggal clinic, proposed that the girl be warded for tests in a hospital.

Siti Suhana has been reported to have been removing the beads from her toenail since last October.

State Women's Affairs, Community Welfare and Unity Committee chairman Datuk Ramlah Abas said the state executive councillors' meeting yesterday decided to bear the cost of Siti Suhana's stay in the state government-owned Putra Specialists Hospital for three days.

Ramlah made the proposal to Siti Suhana and her mother Kamariah Komeng, 52, a rubber tapper, at their home yesterday.

“This is to enable doctors to carry out tests and chemical analysis to find out more about the objects,” Ramlah said.

Siti Suhana’s brother Rahmat Saadon and another relative, Julinie Engkeh, 29, said the family would consider the proposal.

The oval-shaped, hard beads are kept in plastic containers for visitors to view.

MALACCA: A surgeon at Putra Specialist Hospital has wrapped Siti Suhana Saadon’s left big toe which is said to be producing colourful crystal-like beads from her toenail.

This is to prevent anyone from “tampering” with the toe.

Datuk Dr A. Senasi said he covered the toe after Siti Suhana, 23, from Durian Tunggal, was admitted to the hospital on Thursday for observation.

“I covered her toe with dressing and wrapped it with gauze. I also used a plastic casing and self-adhesive tape.

“I'll unwrap it every morning to check for (any) crystal,” he said yesterday.

Dr Senasi said he has not seen any crystal beads so far, and that he did not see any “foreign object” after an X-ray was taken of Siti Suhana’s left foot.

Her blood test results were also normal.

Siti Suhana was admitted for medical examination after news spread that her left toe was producing crystal-like beads. The state is paying for the check-up.

Dr Senasi said he has yet to send the beads for chemical analysis.

“I have until Sunday to observe her condition.”
