This is not the first time I have been accused of ignorance for my preferences this election season, and it won't be the last. But I have looked into this as much as anyone else who wants less war and terror in the world (my fiancee sat in the Belle Equipe cafe in Paris two weeks to the day before 18 were shot there; eight months prior we walked past the body of Finn Nørgaard and waited out the evening with the lights off while Omar Abdel Hamid El-Hussein regrouped in outer Østerbro before murdering the guard at the synagogue) and my belief is that Clinton's foreign policy is worse. I tried to outline why.

No, I don't really trust him. He seems impulsive, unreliable, and without much in terms of a philosophical foundation. He's dangerous.

That said, Clinton is a proven neoconservative and I absolutely trust that she believes in that mission and that worldview. I lived in the outcome of Bill's great '90s war, and the template for the 2000s sequels, for two years. I watched Madeleine Albright swan in to Pristina to say nice words to NGO spokespeople while checking if she could loot more mining assets a decade and change after the fact. I trust Clinton to do what she thinks is best, which is what is in fact worst.

So on balance I prefer Trump. He was quite brave to come out against Iraq in a Southern Republican primary, and he has stated that improved relations with Russia would be a good thing (the implications for Syria there are heartening as well). That's where I'm coming from.

He came out against it in SC,. I know the ambiguity you are referring to, and as I said before: I don't trust him. He lacks a foundation. But he came out against it in SC and made that primary race into an effective repudiation of George W. Bush's neoconservative policies in the Middle East, which Hillary is set to continue complete with the backing of all the detestable pundits of the mid-2000s. That was a good thing to do.

Now quit shouting at me. We already both know that you oppose my view and find my opinions to be wrong and misguided. I am used to that, especially this year and on this issue. But I don't think I am wrong. I think I am right, and I think the neocons and their Middle Eastern/Russian policies are what's wrong and insane and most dangerous, which is why I hope Trump wins the US presidency, as obvious a symbol of decline as it would be.
