I remember when Ronald Reagan was considered a joke of a president.

When I was a kid nobody had ever heard of anyone being deathly allergic to peanuts. Even doctors would scoff at the idea.

And dilemma was spelled dilemna. (I think. Me wrong?)

I'm also from the timeline that saw braces on Jaw's girlfriend, preceded by the artifice of a reflective flash of light from both of their smiles, which, in retrospect, may have programmed the perception of braces across her teeth. Without them the empathy joke is lost. The bears also bore a Semitic surname, at least when scan-read. And the spelling of dilemma was a dilemna in my day.

But I've also lived through a series of earthquakes here and abroad, so maybe alternate reality theories don't shake me up as much as those have.

My careers have involved both marketing as a forceful or subtle (even subconscious) form of persuasion and film entertainment as another form of mind manipulation that can be overt and/or covert. My first formative and instructive book was Vance Packard's, "The Hidden Persuaders".

Through the ever-changing lenses and focus of reflective reality there has always been some quixotic camera operation behind the scenes as well as often-undetected but considerable staging of our life stories. All of our communication and commerce crafts our consciousness - and our memories.

Proof of at least one parallel universe is especially evident in today's election politics, where the contenders are also completely unbelievable.

Here's an example for you- take a look at the scene where clarice meets Hannibal in silence of the lambs. At this moment every source reports that the version I remember, hello clarice, is now "good evening, clarice". Every last source. Now take a the actual scene. Hannibal clearly says, in a not-at-all creepy voice, "good morning" in every clip I've checked out over these past crazy 24 hours. There is no clip where he says, "good evening clarice". Please, if someone could find it for me?

In my reality. And I grew up in a Pentecostal church, and went to a baptist school.
Jesus didn't say that, and he wouldn't have. The hateful fake christians I knew would have gobbled it up, they would have quoted it constantly. And I would have been forced to memorize it, as I memorized long passages of the Bible verbatim and won awards for it. I was a true believer. I read it cover to cover, sat through thousands of sermons. Never once was this mentioned even in passing. And I was the sort of smart ass who would raise his hand and say "don't we call that genocide now?" when my teachers gloated about how god told the Israelites to kill every man woman and child of the various heathen tribes.

And the lion will lay with the lamb in my Isaiah 11:6. Not the wolf will dwell with the lamb.

All of this is ridiculous. Perhaps most of you are from this timeline. It kind of sucks compared to where I was. Queen doesn't even finish "we are the champions" with "...of the world!" What did I do to deserve this? Lol.

I don't even recognize this del-emma as a word. My brain deconstructs it, trying to find meaning. Dilemna has a silent n; everyone knows that. It's one of the few words that even has a silent n and probably the first example that comes to mind.

And "Hello, Clarice" is like a go-to line. I don't remember where in the movie it was said, but as a young kid, I remember that creepy greeting.

Some of this stuff might just be memory tricks... Queen says "of the world" at the end of the chorus twice in the song, but drops it at the end, so maybe our brains just keep wanting to add in the last line of the chorus? That Star Wars "No, I am your father" is bullshit, though. That isn't my Star Wars.

Can't find my Vampire books so I'm reading the jacket cover from The Witching Hour by Anne Rice published in 1990:

Advertisers and marketers wield a lot of power and control lots of cash. They change subtle things for artistic, monetary, cultural, political and who knows what reasons.

Having said that I'm not opposed to the idea of fluid timelines. Just wish I'd get out of this particular one, and how.

I think a lot of this Mandela Effect thing is the fact that, back in the day, we didn't have the Internet to self-police and correct mistakes. Combine that with the terrible audio quality of 1980's VHS, which was used for home movies and also TV production, and I think a lot of us simply misheard things. I probably heard other kids and mass-media say "Luke, I am your father" a thousand times more than I ever actually saw the movie. We created our own reality, back then, because "reality" wasn't shoved in our face with constant auto-correct and fact checking.

Didn't the Jack Palance thing have to do with the fact that his character died out of nowhere in City Slickers, and then a shitty sequel was created bearing his name and a ghostly likeness throughout? There was plenty of talk at the time about resurrecting the character from the dead in an ill-advised manner. I think people convoluted the film with reality.

The braces on Jaws' girlfriend. I remember that too, and it was important. It marked Jaws' realization that the two of them did not make the cut for the villain's eugenics program, which is why he turned coat.

Interview with *the* Vampire. I was a yuuuuge Anne Rice fan in the 70s and 80s. The phrasing of the title was one of the things that stood out, and played a part in my picking up the book out of curiosity when I was 13 or so. Or maybe I'm just from the alternate timeline.
