As far as another shooter from the same hotel, where are photos of another window broken open? Or did they replace it right away?? There has been suggestion of snipers placed elsewhere and even handguns in the crowd. I remain skeptical but there is certainly something fishy about Paddock...if Josh Marshall is suspicious...

The mention of Adelman jumped out to me because when these fishy mass shootings occur (let alone in Las Vegas) why does my mind always flash to Adelman? He can afford to fund any operation he chooses, he's got the connections, and he's probably untouchable. Chertoff is a close second. Any indication they've been working together?

Beyond belief:

A full 55 seconds into this three-minute excuse-for-a-news-report, NBC's Joe Fryer tells us -- casually! in passing!! -- that he and his news team "happened to be" in a room in the very same hotel only six floors above the shooter when the minutes-long EXTREMELY LOUD AND INCREDIBLY CLOSE shooting spree took place. This is the stuff reporters dream of, right? Or so you might think.

Yet the NBC sleuths reported absolutely nothing while it was happening, These seasoned hacks passed up the chance for a highly-dramatic GLOBAL SCOOP, LIVE from the very front line. (Even now, he still doesn't provide even a recording of the shots as heard from the NBC hotel room, only sixty feet above the killer!)

Meanwhile, some guy who was allegedly in a room on the very same floor as the shooter reports absolutely nothing of any interest or relevance whatsoever. He doesn't even mention any loud noises, although the noise must have been deafening, and terrifying.

Right at the end, Savannah, the hottish NBC anchor, does cluck sanctimoniously at the awfulness of it all (how could she not?), though of course she asks her colleague Joe Fryer not one single solitary question (how could she?). That's not News, that's Entertainment.

Here's Tom with the Weather.

Mac, I think your current sig is going to be good for 20 years at least.

Even by the post-reality standards we're in, that shit is a mindfuck. The fact that the producers and money behind that are glib enough to do it speaks volumes.

Paddock's Girlfriend Used Two Social Security Numbers and Was Married to Two Men at the Same Time

Article I can't get to copy at link:

Also is there something weird about the room Paddock allegedly shot from?

Photos show two windows that are broken with unbroken windows in between.

Are they separate windows?

Could there have been two shooters?

Someone involved in this "active investigation" (presumably some police officer) has already leaked several photos of the aftermath in the hotel room, showing the guns, the body with a head wound, and what looks very much like a note of some kind:

.

Look at the exterior picture of hotel in the article below - oops no, I saw it in another place. Look for wide view of hotel. Corner suite, windows opened in both directions, makes sense no matter how many shooters. (Did I really say this makes sense? Well, you know what I mean, as a logistical step.)

Set up a ring of surveillance cameras around the hotel floor to spot anyone coming toward the room - presumably these were sending feeds to at least one computer with multiple screens displayed? Nowadays every store or office does that, but still, another spook move.

Worked also for Treasury Department in 70s before the Lockheed predecessor, still unnamed. Job unspecified.

Focus on legality of tools to convert semis into autos, but incomplete: who says all the guns are legal and that this is only a matter of gun control? If he's a spook, it's likely also a matter of spooks and their special extralegal privileges. Looks like he -- or whoever, but yeah sorry I've got no problem for the moment with idea it was him, or that the act was doable by one guy -- looks like he had the resources and expertise (however acquired) to secure military weapons, not just "military grade."

Meticulous Planning by Las Vegas Gunman Before He Opened Fire
By JENNIFER MEDINA, RICHARD PÉREZ-PEÑA and ADAM GOLDMANOCT. 3, 2017

LAS VEGAS — Before he mowed down concertgoers from a perch high in a hotel tower, a gunman created a ring of surveillance around him, with video cameras in his suite and in the hallway, law enforcement officials said on Tuesday. But investigators were still at a loss to offer a motive for the massacre.

The cameras — apparently intended to warn of approaching threats — along with the 23 guns, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, and other equipment found in the shooter’s hotel suite, suggested a thought-out plan to have plenty of time to wreak carnage while holding the police at bay.

Local and federal investigators also said they were eager to interview the gunman’ss girlfriend, Marilou Danley, who had been in the Philippines, and a federal law enforcement official said she was expected to return to the United States. Sheriff Joseph Lombardo of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said that at a minimum, she might shed some light on what was going through the mind of the gunman, Stephen C. Paddock, who killed himself as the police prepared to enter his room.

“I will assure you investigation with her is ongoing, and we anticipate some information here from her shortly,” Mr. Lombardo said.

At least one of the rifles the gunman had in his luxury suite on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino was outfitted with a “bump stock,” a device that enables a gun to fire hundreds of rounds per minute, like a machine gun, which may explain how he was able to rain such devastation on the crowd below, law enforcement officials said. [Which leaves 22 other weapons by this count, one of which could be... an actual automatic?] Such devices are often legal, and the possibility that he may have used one set off a fresh round of calls by Democratic lawmakers in Washington to pass more gun regulations after the tragedy.

At 10:08 p.m. on Sunday, the shooter opened fire on the thousands of people attending a country music festival a few hundred yards northeast of the hotel, firing long, rapid-fire bursts into the throng, as people screamed and ran for their lives. He killed 58 people — all but three have been identified, the sheriff said on Tuesday — and wounded hundreds of others. In all, more than 500 people were injured, most by gunfire, and some in the panicked rush to escape.

President Trump, who is expected to visit Las Vegas on Wednesday, said on Tuesday that Mr. Paddock was “a sick man, a demented man,” adding that “we are dealing with a very, very sick individual.” He said there would be some discussion about firearms legislation, but was not specific.

“We will be talking about gun laws as time goes by,” Mr. Trump said as he prepared to leave Washington for hurricane-battered Puerto Rico.

Sheriff Lombardo said that Mr. Paddock, 64, had set up cameras in the hotel, but he did not know if they were used to record the scene — which could provide crucial evidence — or merely for surveillance of his surroundings. The FBI took the equipment and is examining it.

“I anticipate he was looking for anybody coming to take him into custody,” the sheriff said. “There was cameras located outside of the room and inside of the room,” including one placed on a service cart in the hallway.

The gunman had 23 firearms, including military-style rifles, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in Suite 32135, and the sheriff has said that Mr. Paddock had used more than one of the guns to fire on the crowd. Another law enforcement official, who was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity, has said that two of the weapons had been set up with tripods and scopes to aim through two windows the gunman had smashed.

Mr. Paddock checked in on Thursday, and kept the “Do Not Disturb” sign on his door for the next three days, so no maids entered the rooms, according to a hotel worker, who also was not authorized to discuss the matter. Housekeepers are allowed to enter a room with such a sign only in the presence of a security guard, and it happens rarely, usually after several days, the worker said.

The hotel staff is trained to look for anything suspicious, but the gunman’s behavior did not set off any alarms, the employee said. He had at least 10 suitcases in his room, the sheriff had said, which might have been used to bring the guns in without notice. But the hotel worker said it would have been easy to bring them to the room a few at a time without arousing suspicion.

Semiautomatic rifles, like those the gunman had, are made to fire a single round with each pull of the trigger. But recordings and witness accounts of the shooting made clear that the shooter was firing much faster, at a rate comparable to that of a fully automatic weapon, which quickly fires round after round with a single pull of the finger.

Photo
Caution tape on the doors of the gunman’s suite on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Law enforcement confirmed that the images are authentic but did not provide the source.

But replacing the standard rifle stock, which rests against the user’s shoulder, with a bump stock like the one Mr. Paddock had, allows a semiautomatic rifle to fire much more rapidly, like an automatic, firing hundreds of rounds per minute — much faster than a person can pull and release the trigger. The devices are usually legal and inexpensive, with some versions advertised for $99.

A bump stock allows the body of the rifle to slide a short distance back and forth, harnessing the recoil energy of each shot. The weapon bounces, or “bumps,” rapidly between shoulder and finger, essentially creating the action of repeated trigger pulls without the shooter having to move the trigger finger.

Senator Dianne Feinstein of California, a Democrat, has called for years for a ban on bump stocks, and she renewed that call on Tuesday, writing on Facebook, “this is the least we should do.” Congressional Democrats asked their Republican counterparts to establish a special committee to investigate gun violence.

Senator Mitch McConnell, the Republican majority leader, rebuffed questions about potential legislative action during his regular news conference Tuesday afternoon, saying that the massacre was being politicized.

“Look, the investigation’s not even been completed,” Mr. McConnell said. “And I think’s it’s premature to be discussing legislative solutions, if there are any.”

Senator John Thune, the third-ranking Republican in the Senate, told an NBC News reporter that lawmakers “ought to take a look at” conversion kits that can make guns more lethal. But Mr. Thune also suggested little could be achieved through legislation.

Mr. Paddock was an avid gambler who often bet heavily at the major casino hotels, and Ms. Danley, 62, who was out of the country at the time of the shooting, had worked for some of those hotels. They lived in Mesquite, Nev., 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas, and he also owned a home in Reno.

Police have found a total of 49 firearms in his two houses and his hotel suite. Several news organizations published photos that they said showed parts of the scene inside and just outside the hotel suite, including rifles on the floor, some of them on tripods, surrounded by spent ammunition shells.

“I can’t verify whether they’re legitimate or not,” Sheriff Lombardo said of the photos. “What I can tell you is I’m very troubled by it. We have an internal investigation occurring as we speak on how those photographs were obtained.”

Law enforcement officials have said they are confident that Mr. Paddock, who had no prior criminal record, was the sole shooter on Sunday. Though the Islamic State group has claimed that he was one of their followers, officials say that, so far, they have found no evidence that he had ties to any extremist group.

But Mr. Lombardo stressed that investigators were still looking into what roles others might have played. “I assure you this investigation is not ended with the demise of Mr. Paddock,” he said.

Asked if Ms. Danley was considered a suspect, he said, “currently she’s a person of interest.”

Mr. Paddock recently wired thousands of dollars to the Philippines, but it was not clear who the recipient was. [thousands or a hundred thousand? sort of like the way NYT counts heads at demonstrations]

His work history is unclear; his brother has described him as a wealthy retiree. He worked for the Treasury Department in the late 1970s, according to a law enforcement official familiar with the investigation, who cited a government review of employment records, but it was not clear for how long.

He applied for several jobs with other government agencies, for which he submitted fingerprints along with job applications dating back several decades, the person said. He also worked in the 1980s for one of the companies that later combined to form Lockheed Martin, the aerospace contractor. [Why is the actual company never named?]

Mr. Paddock’s and Ms. Danley’s neighbors in Reno described the couple as quiet and private, and Mr. Paddock as a recluse they rarely saw. Susan Page, a retired financial analyst who lives next door, said she never saw anyone visit them.

“It wasn’t that they were unfriendly, they just didn’t socialize,” she said. “I thought maybe he was sick or something because they were always in the house and the shades were always drawn shut.”

Jennifer Medina reported from Las Vegas and Richard Pérez-Peña and Adam Goldman from New York. Reporting was contributed by John Eligon from Las Vegas; Conor Dougherty from Mesquite, Nev.; Sheryl Gay Stolberg and Rebecca Ruiz from Washington; C.J. Chivers; and Thomas Gibbons-Neff.

Ah, here's a new story on the money:

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/02/us/s ... ooter.html

Eric Paddock said that his brother was a wealthy man who gambled for fun. The two brothers had shared a real estate business for decades, refurbishing properties, the sale of which had left his brother with what he estimated was $2 million. “He’s a multimillionaire,” he said. “He helped me become affluent, he made me wealthy.”

Sure, it's possible, but let's not presume the designated culprit's guilt until his innocence is proven, especially since he's now dead and cannot defend himself in court. No criminal record, no known expertise with guns, no history of mental illness, no signs of any serious interest in politics, no motive whatsoever. He was also elderly and alone and therefore extremely easy to set up as a patsy and then bump off. It just takes one knock on the door ("Room service, sir."), plus a handgun with a silencer.

What's truly hard to believe is that the hotel guests immediately above, below and to the sides of the guy's corner suite were not calling the cops immediately to say that those extremely numerous and EXTREMELY LOUD shots were being fired from precisely Room [whatever-it-was] on the 32nd floor. The idea that it took the police a while to figure out where the shots were coming from is just preposterous.

Or the police could have just asked NBC Joe, six floors above the shooter. Or NBC Joe could have, y'know, told the police himself, even without being asked.

Playing loud music after 10pm in a hotel room is usually enough to get other guests banging on the walls, ceiling and floor within seconds, and they always know precisely where the noise is coming from, amazingly enough. How many decibels does a machine-gun produce?

Lockheed Corporation and Martin Marietta merged in the mid '90s to become Lockheed Martin. Aerospace and Defense contractors.

The Taxi driver's video captured what appeared to be muzzle flashes from what she described as being "about the tenth floor" while others ID that location as being the fourth floor.

Robert, she was under another part of the building that muffled the gunshots, which became much louder when she emerged and drove around and in front of the hotel.

In one video, one window close to or exactly where the muzzle flashes were seen on the 4th(?) floor should have been illuminated in gold, as all others in that vertical line were, but was blacked-out. Other views showed no broken windows anywhere other than the two rooms on the 32nd floor, the large, wrap around suite on the end of the building incorporating two or three windows on the side facing the music venue, and the adjacent room to its left.

Did anyone see more than just those two broken windows?

Horrible, just horrible. I've been thrust into a most unpleasant state of mind and here I remain. Like floating in space where thoughts make no sense, for there is no recognizable point of reference, with the after tone of a struck bell reverberating in my head. My heart aches.
