i swore off the big three evening newscasts in december 2004 when ALL THREE of them devoted more time to some controversy surrounding toys for tots than to a recent attack on a US base in iraq which killed 22 people, making it the deadliest attack on US forces at the time.

the fact that all three stations even covered the toys for tots "scandal", nevermind the fact that it overshadowed real news, was enough to convince me that the "news" is no more than corporate bought-out propaganda fluff and distractions for good and all.

though it is disconcerting to think that if i were to watch the evening news now, 22 deaths in iraq would probably be a number too insignificant for coverage.

I don't own a TV. I watch a few shows I like on cable (I have can watch elsewhere). I get most of the shows I like from the internet but even that is only a couple or so.

I participate in a few blogs I like but I'm spoiled. When I listen to minnesota public radio, and it's probably one of the best out there, I get frustrated. I want to participate and the national media, even public radio, doesn't allow for that. What I want to do is to talk to their guest or the host. But they won't let me, or any one. What I get is one sentence and that's it, if I even get on. No... what I am supposed to do is sit back and consume the news they have prepared for me.

I don't want to. I have my own rss feeds and pod casts thank you very much. And often I know the issue better than the host does. But they think they are the high priests of the sacred news. They travel from their desk to the AP machine and sort through the holy of holies and decide what is fit for us proles.

Bull.. I vote with my feet. I don't watch it or listen to it if it doesn't treat me with respect. The sooner these media dinosaurs die off the better as far as I'm concerned.
