NPR’s response to a dissenter within their ranks?

Suspension without pay.

Shameless. Brazen.

NPR suspends veteran editor as it grapples with his public criticism

UPDATED APRIL 16, 202411:27 AM ET

David Folkenflik

NPR has formally punished Uri Berliner, the senior editor who publicly argued a week ago that the network had "lost America's trust" by approaching news stories with a rigidly progressive mindset.

Berliner's five-day suspension without pay, which began last Friday, has not been previously reported.

Yet the public radio network is grappling in other ways with the fallout from Berliner's essay for the online news site The Free Press. It angered many of his colleagues, led NPR leaders to announce monthly internal reviews of the network's coverage, and gave fresh ammunition to conservative and partisan Republican critics of NPR, including former President Donald Trump.

Berliner is part of the problem at NPR. He's a rightwinger.

Has someone taken over your account? If not, are you blissfully unaware of how absurd you sound? (Well, if you are blissully unaware of it, you won’t be able to answer this question properly, eh?)

Rhetorical questions.

I’m in awe of the stubborn* inability to soberly assess developments over the last several years with any modicum of objectivity.

*stubborn implies self-awareness, but increasingly those that reflexively utter retorts such as yours sound like unconscious robots, spewing output as instructed by their programming.

OMG. What?

Berliner was complaining that NPR needs more right-wing voices. NPR is quite conservative enough as it is. Screw him.

NPR editor resigns after accusing US outlet of liberal bias

Uri Berliner quits broadcaster days after being suspended over essay accusing network of lacking viewpoint diversity.

“I am resigning from NPR, a great American institution where I have worked for 25 years.

“It’s frictionless – one story after another about instances of supposed racism, transphobia, signs of the climate apocalypse, Israel doing something bad and the dire threat of Republican policies. It’s almost like an assembly line.

Berlinera also cited voter registration data that he said showed there were 87 Democrats and no Republicans on staff at the outlet’s Washington, DC, headquarters.

Maybe it needs less CIA voices:
hello friends I would like to show you a very interesting way to become the person who runs NPR first you go to work for CFR and the Eurasia group, then you monitor children’s phones in Malawi for “nutritional studies” (cough cough peter bourne) then you work for NDI/World Bank

Can you explain precisely how Berliner — a longtime employee of NPR, recently fired for expressing his views publicly — is a ‘rightwinger’?

@ggreenwald

Amazing:

This account knew 10 years ago that - as Biden's DOJ alleges -
@MaxBoot's ex-CIA wife was a secret paid agent for South Korea, yet somehow the WashPost didn't know and let her publish propaganda in its paper?

Did Max Boot, who co-authored with her on S Korea, know?

@dick_nixon
.
@SueMiTerry - How much did the South Korean intelligence service pay you to write that trash in the Times?

@JeffWellsRigInt

Experts say:

"To be clear, Biden — the incumbent president — is running for reelection. [But] some people have bought into a prevalent (and false) right-wing narrative that 'Biden isn't just old, but actually has dementia.'" (NPR, April 7)

One of those cop cars got a flat tire.
A federal court in California ruled late Tuesday against the Environmental Protection Agency, ordering officials to take action over concerns about potential health risks from currently recommended levels of fluoride in the American drinking water supply.

The ruling by District Court Judge Edward Chen, an appointee of former President Barack Obama, deals a blow to public health groups in the growing debate about whether the benefits of continuing to add fluoride to the water supply outweighs its risks.

Environmental nonprofit Food & Water Watch and a handful of anti-fluoride groups, like the Fluoride Action Network, have been in court for nearly a decade after the EPA denied their petition against local water utilities adding in the mineral.

While Chen was careful to say that his ruling "does not conclude with certainty that fluoridated water is injurious to public health," he said that evidence of its potential risk was now enough to warrant forcing the EPA to take action.

"In all, there is substantial and scientifically credible evidence establishing that fluoride poses a risk to human health; it is associated with a reduction in the IQ of children and is hazardous at dosages that are far too close to fluoride levels in the drinking water of the United States," the judge wrote in his ruling.

Since this is coming from crazy California liberals, are conservatard conspiroids going to start advocating for drinking it? It's all kinda moot since most people now drink microplastic-laden bottled (sic) water...

...
Portions of the Harris interview ran Monday on the newsmagazine and on the Sunday morning political show “Face the Nation.” On two occasions, it depicted Harris giving different answers to questions posed by correspondent Bill Whitaker on the Biden administration’s efforts to stop the war in the Mideast.

For CBS News, it was considered part of the typical editing and cross-promotion process that takes place for a big interview. Yet to those unfamiliar with journalism and television production, the effect can be jarring.

How did Harris appear to give two answers?

Whitaker interviewed Harris on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 5, in Washington for the special broadcast that aired Monday, two days later. But “60 Minutes” offered a portion of that interview to colleagues at “Face the Nation,” both to give the Sunday morning show some fresh news and to “tease” the longer interview.

At one point, Whitaker observed that it appeared Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, did not appear to be listening to the administration’s suggestions.

“Well, Bill, the work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by or a result of many things, including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region,” the vice president said in response, on the “Face the Nation” clip.

On “60 Minutes,” after Whitaker said the same thing, Harris answered: “We’re not going to stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end.”

...

So what did Harris actually say to Whitaker?

Well, both things, according to CBS. Her full answer to the question was the two sentences put together — the first sentence used on “Face the Nation” and the second sentence on “60 Minutes.”

CBS said the need to make the “60 Minutes” interview segment concise prompted the editing. The full interview with Harris took 45 minutes, and it was fit into a 20-minute slot on the broadcast. Yet the editing made it appear that the answer shown on “60 Minutes” was the first thing Harris said in response to the question. Having “Face the Nation” show Whitaker asking the question — instead of having someone paraphrase it — added to the confusion and made CBS vulnerable to criticism.

Catherine Herridge
@C__Herridge

This statement is an indicator @CBSNews hasn’t contained the fallout from its Kamala Harris @60Minutes edit.

Releasing the full unedited transcript is consistent with journalistic transparency and it stands behind the integrity of the entire Kamala Harris edit, not just the clips under scrutiny.

CBS has the ability to immediately settle these questions and address merits of FCC complaint alleging “news distortion.”

There is ample precedent @CBSNews for releasing full, unedited transcripts.
