Rage Against The Machine To Play At CIA Fundraiser

WASHINGTON, D.C. — American rock band Rage Against the Machine, famous for songs with anti-authoritarian themes, proudly announced they would headline this year's CIA fundraiser on November 22, the band's publicist confirmed Monday.

"We've all got to do our part to save democracy by policing the world through the deep state," said guitarist Tom Morello.

One of Rage's most popular songs, "Killing In The Name," was thought to be inspired by the beating of Rodney King Jr. and a rebellion against what they perceived as a police state emboldened by capitalism and racism. But band member Zack de la Rocha clarified the lyrics were sarcastic. "Look, I trust the experts. They obviously know how to run things, except for those four years when Donald Trump was president," Rocha said. "Only Kamala Harris and the deep state machine can save America now."

"We have to join the machine to fight the machine. Or something."

CIA Director William J. Burns expressed his enthusiasm at seeing Rage Against the Machine perform later this month. "Of all the controlled opposition the CIA manages, Rage is by far my favorite. They're all former test subjects in MKUltra. But instead of brainwashing them to assassinate political opponents, we brainwashed them to rock," he said

Surprising many, legendary rapper and activist Chuck D appeared at the White House earlier this summer, announcing that he was joining forces with YouTube and Antony Blinken’s State Department to become one of Washington’s “global music ambassadors” – a role directly modeled on Washington’s Cold War-era efforts to use the arts to inspire U.S.-backed regime change in Eastern Europe, and to use musical tours as covers that the CIA could use to assassinate foreign leaders.

Among a crowd of artists that included Herbie Hancock, Armani White, BRELAND, Denyce Graves, Grace Bowers, Jelly Roll, Justin Tranter, Kane Brown, Lainey Wilson, and Teddy Swims, the Public Enemy frontman was centerstage, standing directly on Blinken’s right-hand side, and was the first artist in the room mentioned by the Secretary of State, earning a round of applause from the journalists and dignitaries assembled. “I would like to thank everybody in the U.S. State Department and also YouTube for having me being invited to being a United States global music ambassador,” he said.

Many years ago (mid-90s) I got into a discussion at a political rally with some RCP members (or a similar group) who were touting Rage Against the Machine, already signed to Sony, and I just said, "if Rage are so revolutionary why don't they charge a maximum of five dollars like Fugazi? Why sign to a major?" To the cheers of a young green party girl at the next table. "To get the message out maaaan..."
