Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that all was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, and make it possible. -- Lawrence of Arabia

That flood took out Toowoomba which is on top of a "mountain" (sort of) and them went through a series of towns downstream, last night the death toll was 10 but 70 people are missing. Thats nothing compared to floods elsewhere but still, for those effected it doesn't really matter.

I have been isolated or cut off here most days since Chrissie, but nothing like what happened up there.

The record for round here is 500 mm in 3 hours, a couple of years ago, but even that didn't result in that sort of devestation.

I have friends in the path of that floodwater, so far I think they're all ok.

Brisbane is about to go under tho. Thats where that waters going.

Thankfully the last 24 hours has seen almost no rain in many catchments here and around Brissie so what we were expecting has been downgraded. But elsewhere things are just ramping up.

Its actually a great thing for everyone who hasn't lost their life a loved one. I am so impressed with people after this, even the Qld cops and Govt have done themselves proud.

That sort of flash flooding is highly unusual for Australia, the mountains here are old so they aren't that high.

Thanks, matrixdutch, for that ^^ contribution, that is, Brené Brown’s TED talk, The Power of Vulnerability.

I’ve removed what I had posted in this space after being reminded of particular aspects-of-humankind-in-general that Brown explored, and how those aspects helped me to emphasize or expand on various and distinct experiences, feelings and responses as I remember them noted in the Bill Zeller thread.

Sir Ken Robinson | Changing Education Paradigms
      a TED talk

TED NOTES. In this talk from RSA Animate, Sir Ken Robinson lays out the link between three troubling trends: rising drop-out rates, schools’ dwindling stake in the arts, and ADHD. An important, timely talk for parents and teachers.

    Following The Ninth
In The Footsteps of Beethoven’s Final Symphony
      from Kerry Candaele

VIMEO NOTES. Filmed on five continents and in twelve countries, this feature length documentary explores the global impact of one of the world's greatest works of art, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.

The Ninth was played at Tiananmen Square by protesting students when the tanks were rolling in to crush them.

In Japan the Ninth (Daiku) is performed over 200 times each December, often with a chorus of five or ten thousand singers.

In Chile the Ninth was sung in the streets and over the walls of torture prisons during the Pinochet years.

And rock and roller Billy Bragg has now written a new English version of the Ode To Joy for our time. The Beethoven Billy Bragg Ninth was performed before the Queen by the London Philharmonic.

A world journey into the power of great music to heal and change us, Following The Ninth will be released in 2011 by Area 23a Films.
