Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that all was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, and make it possible. -- Lawrence of Arabia

Just remember to enjoy it while you can, Flying Squirrel, because you're going to get older, and if you don't have your feet on the ground, there's going to be a big wake up call, and it won't involve me feeding you acorns.

That little cutie is a Red Panda!
If you happen to find yourself in Sichuan province at the Chengdu (Giant) Panda Breeding Centre you'll get a chance to see lots of their less famous colleagues - the Red Panda, who are not panda's at all, strictly speaking. They are also referred to as 'lesser panda's, but I think we can all agree that that's just not very nice.
This taxonomic classification of both the Red Panda and Giant Panda has been under debate for many decades, as both species share characteristics of both bears and raccoons. However, they are only very distantly related by remote common ancestry from the Early Tertiary Period. Its common ancestor can be traced back to tens of millions of years ago with a wide distribution across Eurasia. Fossils of the Red Panda have been unearthed from China in the east to Britain in the west (Hu, 1990), and most recently a handful of fossils (Pristinailurus bristoli, Miocene, considered to be a new genus and species of the Red Panda) have also been discovered in North America. http://news.worldwild.org/the-story-of-a-red-panda/
Even in the hottest weather, the Red Panda is not too hard to spot, meanwhile the Giant Panda will be tucked away in an air-conditioned place as he/she was not built for the intense summer heat of Sichuan's steaming, verdant plains.
The direct translation from Chinese to English ... xiao xiong mao (small bear cat) = red panda ... xiong mao (bear cat) = (giant) panda ... speaking of whom:

Man, Jesus fuck is that cute.
Lemme let you in on a story. A couple years ago I had to stay with a friend for a bit because I am so insufferably emotional and got dumped by my lady at the time because of being so. Anyhoo, he had this pond with a waterfall pump and shit that had some gold fish in it. Anyways, at night the raccoons would come around and supposedly to him they were there to kill his fish they spent some untold amount for. So he went and got this pellet gun to shoot them with. He was always talking up what a nuisance they were, but I had yet to see them invade his back yard for myself.
One night, I hear the raccoons coming out while I'm laying on his futon and I say, "yo, the raccoons are back". He leaps into action and we go outside to see probably a mama and her kids following her along the fence to the running water. He hands me the gun while there are these frozen raccoons wondering what the fuck we are doing too and tells me to shoot one of the babies who was frozen there on the fence post. I was believing at the time they were the nuisance he made them out to be and was like "ok, I'll take the gun". He's like, "now shoot it. shoot the fucker." I was like, "fuck no dude, do you see how close I am to him? I could seriously hurt it." He grabs the pellet gun out of my hand and then starts firing away while I'm like "dude, dude, you're way too close to him! It's just a baby!" Argh.
Then later that night, it dawned on me and I made a huge deal about it, that the raccoons are only coming around because they hear that running water in your pond dude! This is their land, not yours. Their "ancestors" have been in this area for thousands of years longer than you have! Their instincts are to go towards running fucking water!
Anyways, long story short, I am going to send him that video. Fuckin' dick.
