She probably should have thought of that before she called American Dream a catamite. One might imagine that if you're going ro flat-out say that the poster you're addressing has been taking it up the ass from Tony Greenstein, you ought to be ready and able to handle the return fire. Maybe her supporters missed that tidbit, or shined it on, or even supported her saying such things here, but for me that was when I realized it was pretty much anything goes. She crossed a line with that one, and should have been suspended.

and furthermore, she wasn't thrilled with the idea that everything she wrote would be attacked because she wrote it (a different fallacy that I can't remember the name of.)

She's got a point there, I guess.

I'm having a hard time reconciling those two statements, because the Stewart Lee video seems to be insisting that there are clear reasons for regarding certain behaviors as abhorrent. I don't see any political correctness happening here at all, anyway. Zero.

The mods better allow us somewhere to air this shit out or it's just gonna go on and on. Unfinished business and all.

You can tell a thread is potentially heading for trouble when you see so many quote boxes within quote boxes it looks like a fractal. Also when someone takes a post, splits it into separate sentences, and responds to each one. When I find myself going there, I know it's time to take a step back, let some water pass under the bridge. Just a general rule of thumb I find helpful.
Both his words and manner of speech seemed at first totally unfamiliar to me, and yet somehow they stirred memories - as an actor might be stirred by the forgotten lines of some role he had played far away and long ago.

This whole thing is still absolutely raw and open for many people, slad.

A huge amount of goodwill and trust has gone down the toilet, which may not be so apparent to the people who were not in the thick of it. There are a lot of board relationships that have been badly damaged / destroyed / disillusioned.

Of the people who primarily were not anti-Atzmon three were subject to personal abuse - one has left the board, one has had her attacker "love-hearted" on the front page while a version of victim-blaming "well you deserved it, slad" makes the rounds.

As for eyeno, I frankly thought the guy was stoned out of his box half the time - the other half was a type of posting that I did find creepy like Nordic. I don't know if it was his thinking he was 'hiding' being the former poster called Vigilant (when he had a giant neon sign saying it) or darker stuff.

As I said before, I have no issue with c2w, I like her very much and our interactions were pretty similar to her and Sounder - pretty different points of view, pretty respectfully exchanged.
Her and Alice being away from the board is not good for this place.
And if Willow happens to read this, I genuinely don't know what the phrase 'hoe in a row' means :(
The only person who I have seen show non-involved insight is Saurian Tail.
I feel really depressed about this; in my world it feels like being in 'The Lord Of The Flies', when we could be in "The Lord of The Rings"...

yes there is EXTREME political correctness here, no doubt....(a recent addition)

can't give examples because I am for the first time in 7 years afraid to post something

....and a couple real bullies also

thanks to Saurian Tail for being brave enough to be able to say how she felt....at this point I have no bravery and that makes me sick to my stomach

.......but lots of other people didn't

This is a very accurate observation, dada
IMO it can also be true if the person doing it is under tremendous time pressure.
It is also self-reinforcing, because there is a near geometric increase in the number of tracks being addressed / argued over. If many people are doing it with each other, it becomes very easy for the 'time pressure' way of responding turning into "how many points can one shoot down the other person"...

Forum software is a very poor method for group argumentation. Minor point.

At this point, a leadership contribution from El Jefe might be..like... useful.

I watched the video and thought some valid points were made, enough to make me reconsider my position, though not entirely. Lee used some fairly extreme examples to make his point, for example, his "you can't even write racial slurs in excrement on peoples cars" line.

I was speaking about PCness in a more generalized sense, along the lines of what Carlin was talking about in the video I posted in response to the Lee video. Like how euphemistic PC jargon is used by society to hide or distance itself from ugly truths, or truths that are inconvenient to those in power. Like calling a prison a "correctional facility", or torture being refered to as "enhanced interrogation". I believe many of the people who defended Atzmon were correct in that racism is racism, to take one form of racism and distinguish from others by giving it a different name needlessly complicates the matter, and creates additional barriers to resolving the issue. Not sure if I'll be allowed to say that, which gets back to the point I was trying to make initially.

I found Carlin's piece germane because the entire Atzmon thread was, in a way, a mining operation towards discovering the true object of a mountain of euphemisms.

To promote or coordinate going-concern efforts to rein in abuses of power? Except that doesn't happen, theres just the horror story followed by hating and scapegoating, as if those evil police/soldiers/politicians bear all responsibility for everything bad, and we poor kittens can only mew pathetically about our lot. Orwells 2 minute hate is alive and well and conditioning slaves daily.

This has occurred to me too, not necessarily about the topic of this thread. When does legitimate griping turn into the whining and bellyaching one finds among people like Alex Jones and assorted fundamentalists?

Funny you say that, because I thought it was hilarious and I don't agree that:

beeblebrox wrote:The censorship and political correctness is getting a little stifling around here.

In fact, I think that's a ridiculous contention. Got any examples?

Well, shoot, I can honestly say that I don't know WTF I'm talking about half the time. The George Carlin video I posted was meant as kind of a rebuttal to the Stewart Lee video, even though I agreed with much of what Stewart Lee said. Additionally, I attempted to explain myself further with my response to barracuda, but that might not have made any sense either. Feel free to explain to me why you find that post ridiculous too, I would appreciate your input.

This is not meant to be a sarcastic response.
