A Story That Could Be True
If you were exchanged in the cradle and
your real mother died
without ever telling the story
then no one knows your name,
and somewhere in the world
your father is lost and needs you
but you are far away.
He can never find
how true you are, how ready.
When the great wind comes
and the robberies of the rain
you stand on the corner shivering.
The people who go by--
you wonder at their calm.
They miss the whisper that runs
any day in your mind,
"Who are you really, wanderer?"--
and the answer you have to give
no matter how dark and cold
the world around you is:
"Maybe I'm a king."

It's a fucking dystopian nightmare. RI is a place of desperately-sought cold-comfort when in collective agreeance of ideas, but when core beliefs are questioned, it can become a frustrating and hostile environment.
Come back Wombat, I like experiencing your weltanschauung.
I have only one core belief. 2 + 2 usually = 4.

Semper, you never offended me, never ever.
I don't post here these days simply because I don't have the time - to post, or even just to read, most times. That may change at some point, but it's gonna be a while.
Meanwhile, RI is always my first stop when I need some bit of news or information contextualized. And it's a better site for all the disagreement and occasional dust-up, so that's to be valued above consensus, in the main. Easy to forget that.
Now I have to get back to work.

but darn it - made me look like I was angling for compliments there......( but I’ll accept it anyway & stow it in the locker )
it was actually Plutonia I was thinking of although I may very well have just pissed her off by making false representations on her behalf......Ahab another one ofcourse - he was off on his Scottish independence lark ofcourse.....I really thought that "like" button proposal was a way to bridge the inactivity gap but that went down like Jackie Mason at a Waffen SS re-union....
Wombat must be absolutely clutching himself in delight over the disturbances in the Force eventuating from his dainty pirouette off stage left...at least 4 threads launched at the last count.....
Searcher was I believe refering to this post :

[the British] government always kept a kind of standing army of news writers who without any regard to truth, or to what should be like truth, invented & put into the papers whatever might serve the minister
