Trump is so insultingly bad it's nearly beyond belief. Call it denial, but it's difficult to take him seriously. He represents something like the extinction of the species as we've known it, and all that encompasses. That, of course, is serious. Even so, he's playing a role, and that's what makes this difficult.

This isn't an election. The cognitive dissonance created by that assumption is so great that these events are barely discussed in terms other than 'electoral' ones. i find this increasingly problematic. The citizens of the US are being blackmailed.

If this thread takes a speculative turn, as suggested above, IMO William Gibson got alot of things right in 'Neuromancer'. In this day, imagining an off-world, post-transnational, dynastic elite unencumbered by mere finance and possessed of a disembodied consciousness with its own AI isn't difficult. It could take two generations for something similar to the Tesser-Ashpool SA entity to appear. When a rearrangement of subjectivity occurs at that level, all bets are off.

I've been saying it for quite some time that we might as well just put a computer in "office" using social media. It immediately occurred to me a number of years ago when Watson beat all the best Jeopardy champions and I was constantly logging in to make the Empire State Building turn orange for the Broncos (I just wanted to see the gradual algorithmic changes). @ brekin, that's a pretty good video and review of The Division. I actually have the game and played the heck out of it a few months back. I enjoyed it, but yes it is very silly in a lot of ways (although quite haunting in other aspects).

You're probably right about that. We are definitely living out a kayfabe script, but I'm not convinced our elected overlords have any say in where the story goes. Trump was booked as the babyface there, you may recall.

There's no time for that. The 60s are dead. 'People power' doesn't work. They've long since got a handle on that (see Bernie's campaign for an example of exactly how they mold and manipulate public sentiment to exactly the end they desire), and anyway, Americans are far too dumbed down, poisoned, brainwashed, and distracted to ever organize to any real effect (how'd Occupy work out?). What they have trouble with is someone playing their own game against them, which is what I feel Trump and who- or what-ever is backing him are doing.

Ex CIA, Goldman Sachs, ex a lot of stuff. He's connected to various NGOs involved in Syria, some Israeli connections through friends of friends, still looking through it all. Rick Wilson, Max Boot, Bill Kristol, all the usual suspects are behind him.

Ofc the optics on this are total shit for countering a populist campaign and he won't be able to do much no matter how much Israeli money gets thrown his way. But it's the thought that counts.
