Yes, that's a beauty, and so perfectly WaPo. So Trump is now Chavez, and each is discredited by association with the other. "Populist" is such a handy epithet, and all the handier for being practically meaningless. The Noise Machine just never stops.
In another thread, it's being suggested that Bannon is Lenin. The plot thickens. Maybe Melania will turn out to be Rosa Luxemburg.

I met Steve Bannon—the executive director of Breitbart.com who’s now become the chief executive of the Trump campaign, replacing the newly resigned Paul Manafort—at a book party held in his Capitol Hill townhouse on Nov. 12, 2013. We were standing next to a picture of his daughter, a West Point graduate, who at the time was a lieutenant in the 101 Airborne Division serving in Iraq. The picture was notable because she was sitting on what was once Saddam Hussein’s gold throne with a machine gun on her lap. “I’m very proud of her,” Bannon said.
Then we had a long talk about his approach to politics. He never called himself a “populist” or an “American nationalist,” as so many think of him today. “I’m a Leninist,” Bannon proudly proclaimed.
Shocked, I asked him what he meant.
“Lenin,” he answered, “wanted to destroy the state, and that’s my goal too. I want to bring everything crashing down, and destroy all of today’s establishment.”
Mazars and Deutsche Bank could have ended this nightmare before it started. They could still get him out of office. But instead, they want mass death. Don’t forget that.
Mac, this is the second post where you have assumed that the poster (I think the other one was 82_82's) is talking about you when they even mention generic, even in the abstract, misbehavior or disagreements on RI. Honestly, I think you are the only one connecting the dots back to you or picking up an personalized implication. We are neither such fine embroiders or deep subtextualists. Relax, honestly. Even if somehow these were snarky personal cryptograms, they aren't being read by my guess is anyone as such.

Ah right, the Daily Beast said he said it, ergo he must have said it, ergo it must be true, because what politicians say about themselves is always true: Steve Bannon is a Leninist, right. So he'll be dispossessing the rich next, nationalising banks and public utilities, and writing trenchant analyses of the evils of imperialism.
It's so easy to sort things out. Just believe everything Salon, the Daily Beast and Steve Bannon tell you.
Steve Bannon is a Leninist. Don't misgender him.
(The USA is completely fucking deranged.)

Fascinating. Until you pointed it out I had always read your name that way.

Methinks thou dost protest too much, MacCruiskeen.
Your telepathic insight into my true character, persona and purpose almost puts your psychic precognition and prophetic penetrations on par with a prominent petty president who also preens with omniscient, omnipresent omnipotence.
To the topic, he also cruelly characterizes opposing but accurate informants.
To your parody, partridges perched in pear trees are still pretty good peckers.

Well, to be fair, the Bannon is Lenin story - along with the Bannon is Cheney, Bannon is Satan and Bannon is Darth Vader - blame rests squarely on Bannon, not the Corporate Media. Then again, Bannon is Corporate Media, just a different propaganda branch.
The point is, almost certainly Bannon was picking out the one thing in the entire universe on which he and Lenin could be said to agree, and was on the strength of that calling himself a Leninist.
And what does Bannon himself say about the matter (immediately after where slad truncates her quotation of the Daily Beast article)?:
I emailed Bannon last week recalling our conversation, telling him that I planned to write about it and asking him if he wanted to comment on or correct my account of it. He responded:
“I don’t remember meeting you and don’t remember the conversation. And as u can tell from the past few days I am not doing media.”
It's like, case in point - the corporate media noise machine (and its volunteer army).
oh now I am getting shit for not posting the fucking whole article ....
you people have to make up your minds so I can continue to ignore you
and of course Bannon is a saint ...no doubt
and it is perfectly fine that Alex Jones is now in the press room

Slad, you have completely missed the point again. It has nothing whatsoever to with "a list of acceptable sources" (!). It has everything to with basic vigilance against the bullshit fed to us by politicians and the mass media. My wackily radical position is: Not everything they tell us is true.
Why did you post that text, and bold it? Do you think Steve Bannon is a Leninist? (I have to pinch myself to believe I am asking this, and on Rigorous Intuition too. Do words mean anything at all any more?)

Fiercely defending freedom of the press involves invoking vigorous voices of dissent, not their venal invalidation.
