And edit that I'm a big admirer of many of your posts over many years, Mac. And a total advocate of asking all the necessary questions, including the most maligned ones. But in addition to the person I knew who died late last week, I have multiple friends of friends etc who know real people who are fighting for their lives or close to it.

Yes - just found out this evening, still quite gobsmacked by it. Younger than 40, in fact. I also know a half-dozen people spread across three US cities who may be joining him.

I myself knew someone who died aged 16, a long time ago. Also several in their 20s-50s, from various causes at various times. It is always painful to lose someone before their time, sometimes very.

Can you tell us what age they are? Were they already ill before this started?

My friend was just shy of 40 and had no underlying conditions. Others are a mx of ages and severities of ilness at this time. Most of the latter are in NYC. One is in LA. The deceased was not.
